I have to wonder if '65 Buick Riviera hideaway headlights wouldn't fit the theme better, for your build?
-
Since I have not had much time to work on this project, lately I instead worked FOR this project. I worked for it, by casting and cleaning up a few parts that I'll be needing for the project... I made a mold and cast up some mirrors (both AMT and Revell) taillights, 3rd brake light, and an air bag steering wheel(not shown). This should help a lot when I get to all the other LX's I have. Now where did I put that chassis....

My next project in the works - 1969 Mustang BOSS 302

While the grille is not perfect, There is, in reality very little wrong with the grille it's self. the Problem is in the fenders, and headlights. From what I remember, of this kit. -
Mustang SVO Suggestions..

They say a picture... Casper = Tim Allen's Saleen Mustang. -
I believe that this is because of the popularity of the original subject matter. I think that the subject is so popular that it draws even "non-modelers". When they see the oportunity to build a smaller version of the car they own or once owned, or wish they owned. But maybe I am way off-base? In any event it's interesting to note that everyone that has cast it, to date has became so busy they could not keep up with orders and became backlogged (??) eventually fell behind and ...?? (You fill in the rest!). WOW! Think you got chewed out? Try starting a thread about resin Mustang LX' s, include a certain resin casters product, and what you think needs to be fixed on it...then you'll know chewed out! By the way, (sidenote): The aforementioned caster informed me, that he managed to get the powers that be at Revell to Mothball the LX Mustang project. Is this true, or was he blowing smoke up my tail pipe? I don't know. However, I haven't seen or heard anything from Revell about it soo.... I would guess that said caster would stand to loose a substantial amount of revenue if Revell did make an LX kit, but does he have that much pull with anyone still at Revell? Would a company like Revell, forgo a HUGE profit potential for one person? Hey, I guess if he wants to take credit for it... I can be mad at him for it! But... until someone produces a better one... I'll just keep making my own !

Well, life continues to slow the progress on this one a bit, but To show I still care, and am trying to move ahead ... How about a wee bit of some chassis pics? I was going to hold off, until I had a bit more done, but the timing seems appropriate to show what I am doing, sooo... This project seems to have become about combining kit parts so why should the chassis be any different.. (Inside the body) A little more work and it should fit better then the kit's actual piece. I think that I finally got the axle alignment close. The kit's chassis part isn't the best in the world so close enough will do for this one. Need to add a bit more material and details to the chassis and then we can start building!

Very interesting. I'm surprised it's taken this long for someone else to make one of these. With the right sanding and filing you can make the chassis fit like it was made for this kit. As one that's done this project... I'll tell, you it's much easier to just use the Saleen engine compartment, though. I'll be watching... Edit: By the way check your wheel bases carefully I think the Saleen chassis needs to be shortened by 1-2 mm... IF I remember correctly.

Thanks Guys, I've been working 60 + hours lately so not much time to work on it recently. I did cast a few kit parts in resin to use for it. I'd post pics, but my old computer crashed, and the new one does not have the multi card reader yet.

Being that the 70 is missing both quarter window pillars and it's apparent age, I would think that it is the hard to find 1/25th scale MPC Boss 302 body. Not the more common Monogram 1/24th scale one. But I could be wrong.

Roadhawg has declined, asking that his turn be postponed.

I love what your doing to that body. With the attention to detail that you are showing it should look beautiful when you are done.

I believe that Roadhawg is the next participant. I have sent him (and you) a PM.

A little bit of bad news for those that may be following this thread. Replicas and Miniatures Of Maryland told me they are discontinuing the 10 hole wheels. So if you want to get them from the master I would suggest you hurry. -
Nope. Not in the least. If you re- read the first post ... This IS NOT the "correct" LX. This is the "incorrect" LX ... "Frankenstang". ....The "Bizzarro" LX ( if you will) . The dopelganger project...LX 2.0 (or rather .05?) so to speak.(LOL) The one made from the scraps and leftover parts of the "correct" LX project. For the correct LX I did make an interior tub made from the Cobra interior bucket. I had pics posted in the Fox CBP, but I think that I moved them and broke the link? I don't know that there is anything that is really "correct" about this one, (other then shape) but it still looks pretty good, even if I do say so myself. I haven't had much time to work on this lately, But Hopefully I'll have everything I need to get started on it again real soon. So how's yours coming? Made any progress lately? I haven't seen your thread updated, recently. Infact I don't think I heard from you since I sent you that front bumper? You did get it right?

Great job! How long did it take, to complete?

Very cool!

Glad to hear and see it made it safe. It had a long trip. There have been many suggestions, but it's really boiled down to just winging it. I believe. I posted a topic in the general section to see how many people frequent the Community builds section. Interestingly nearly 1/3 of the people that responded did not visit this section. Perhaps a new sign up in the General section would rouse interest in this subject once more?
-
Absolutely. Not to mention since I started it, and I now have it, it would be wasting my time and money just to mail it to myself. (LOL!) (A little comedy to lighten the mood.) I have heard from Lordmodelbuilder and will be mailing it to him on Monday. I think the bigger problem is that it got moved to the Community build section ( it does belong here) But I question the traffic that this forum gets. I have a gut feeling that many posters don't come to this section at all? Maybe I'm wrong, let's find out....

Resin Mustang Lx's a Comparison and Review thread.
Abell82 replied to Abell82's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
O.K. as promised... I scoured the internet looking for pictures of bare resin AAM Mustang LX hatchbacks. All I could find were 2 from Dwayne50. Here they are... I put up ads and asked everyone I could think of for a body. All to no avail. I did have two people come through, though... One GAVE me a fairly rough AAM LX Coupe . The other person though... that other person... that I shall not name ...(You KNOW who you are !) ...he came through. He sold to me a slightly marred, BUT all original AAM Mustang LX Hatchback casting ! A GIANT THANKS once again sir!! So let's get on with the review shall we? Here are the pics. The front end: A fairly standard AAM front bumper but modified with a thicker grille bar, (better centered)? Left side : Notice the SVO side trim. Nicely done Quarter windows. 5.0 badging. The rear: Here is where this one is marred. Normally it would have molded in taillights. I posted the pic from Dwayne50 above, so that you could see what they would look like, since these have been removed. This version also featured a Molded in rear spoiler with center lamp detail added. Not the best rear spoiler, but not the worst either. Again notice the older 79-84 side and bumper molding. Notice the Mustang on the rear bumper. Right side : And the interior: A very nicely crafted piece! Not accurate, but nicely done. Basically an SVO interior with an updated console. ( I have not tried placing the newer dash in it, yet) And the whole package as recieved... In summary...it's not a bad effort for it's time. I'd be lying if I said it wasn't my favorite of all reviewed here so far. It's not accurate, but it was a good attempt 20 some years ago. I don't think, I am in the minority here either, or I don't believe that I'd have had such trouble finding one, given how many casters have made them.
