Brand new 1987 Buick GNX...
moparmagiclives replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
A year or so ago, I was in a tech class with a guy out of Oregon. He was talking to the instructer about an older Ford store somewhere in Oregon that ended up with a 67 or 68 Mustang the same way. As of that time, it only had a handfull of miles and was never reported sold to Ford. Last I heared the store closed, maybe from the big crash we all watched happen. If it was true, I'm sure someone got one heck of a deal. I think I would take the GNX over the Mustang though. -
super glue off vinal tires?
moparmagiclives replied to moparmagiclives's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
All great ideas guys, thanks a bunch. The problam with some, is the wheel is alrady installed. thats where the glue came from. And I stripped and painted the wheel, so I'm a little nervus about stripping agents. the sanding idea sounds good if I can get it to come out even. Thanks again guys. -
Would anyone have a spare set of decals, I really dont want to buy a whole kit, ...one of my many ocd's. I'm just afraid one layer wont cover and I know I cant mask it off that close.

Shane it's 30 gauge wrapping wire, got it from an electronics supply type store (Jaycar) I believe Stateside its radio shack. Hope this helps

That looks killer...what are you using for plug wires? Im using cap 5 wire striped from the insulation, It looks ok on the block but its just a little to big for every thing to fit right. I like the looks of the wires on yours, once again great model.

Let's try this again.

This kit was the second model I finished, It goes together realy well I think. I used the hood scoop from a 69 vette, other than that pretty much out of the box, with some home grown plug wires. You'll do great I'm sure. -
Next to the mopar part # in the book at the dealer there should be a Sherwin williams paint code that any body shop or paint shop could mix for you. I would check around all the paint supply places, I bet one of them can mix it and load it into a rattle can. Costs about 15 bucks here at our local carquest. Its a single stage paint, there is usualy some left over after loading the can to use in an airbrush latter on. But if this is a lexan proline body, then you might not get anything to stay on it after the first flip. Mopar paint of paint supply paint.

Box stock contest questions
moparmagiclives replied to moparmagiclives's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I think alot of it stems from the many ODC's I have, If I'm going to do something to a model, I feel I need to do everything to it. It would just be so much safer for my mental stability if I just built from the box... -
I would like to build a model for a real contest, but I'm not real big into after market and scratch building stuff. So what little I would do would not get me very far in a contest. Is there alot of box stock entries at most shows, In the box stock class, does it break down from there as far as vintage, race, late model..stuff like that. Thanks guys.

When is a Chrysler; not?
moparmagiclives replied to Jon Cole's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Sure looks alot like a hard top sebring convert too me....The only thing that bothers me about the Cummins/Chrysler deal is the new slash and burn suits from Fiat...never know with people like that. -

I've had alot of people ask about the cummins dzl because of this worry.... Help us all if Fiat can get one that will pass emmissions.. -

Dont you mean Diamler . The whole universal, one size fits all parts exchange was very high on they're list of "to do's". We still see it in a lot of things. And I dont know of any manufacture that is well known for making anything other than a "automobile" All they do is put them together. The rest is left up to Grandpa Bosch... I dont know that I would put a whole lot into one generation of a model to the next as far as progression goes. Seems to me they use the name as more of a selling point then they do the product. But I do like the older avenger better too....opps, another DSM product ??? -

I always thought chrysler went after the Galant?, Who knew... But I do know the jatco trans isnt a chrysler thing, and neither is the "new world engine" that was built for several brands. Im guessing the radios probly arent either. Now the new Raider, thats just plain wrong.. . -

Forgive me for being rude about your purches and your right, as a vehicle they have been very reliable. But so were the neon and pt cruiser. But the Patriot just doesnt strike me as jeep. I understand they wanted small vehicles for the jeep only stores to sell but I feel they compromised they're rep in doing so. Just my 2 cents. Meaning no harm. Hope I didnt offend anyone. -

Like I said, one of the reasons. Thats just what I've been told from the suits. I know there is alot more to it than sell off also, like marketing and target selling. The Dodge brand is now suposed to be the "gen x" brand for the younger family buyers and the "Chrysler" is going to be the elite brand (I.E. older buyers) think Cadillac...hopefully.. And the trucks were going to be the work horse under its own name. And to be honest, the jeep brand was worn out 5 years befor the merger. look at the commander and patriot.. . And yes, I do worry for the future of Chrysler, been here a long time. -

Most of you are correct in a way. Fiat is using this a way to import they're brand into the states. And only a hand full of Chrysler dealerships will have a "Fiat" franchise. Which is nice because thats one less thing I have to learn to work on. But just as the partnership was with Diamler and mitsubishi, the new cars will share alot of parts, body styles and technology. Thats just part of the game I guess. Thats one reason the Dodge Ram is now the "Ram" 1500, 2500 and so on. Fiat has trucks of all sizes, now they can offer a truck from a mid sized Dakota to an over the road 18 wheeler, all from the same brand. But what I've been told so far from the powers that be, is that they have some very interesting ways of doing things that will jump our current outputs by about 15 to 20% with power and economy. This should be fun. -
This has always been one of my fav style planes, but I'm not sure I would like the markings in the plastic like that. Do the decals cover pretty well? Do you think it will be very apperent once they are down? looks to be very interesting. Black and yellow? or red and white? I think I like them so much because they remind me of the gasser and early drag wars. little frames with big engines.....and scallops.

I seen those in a polar lights flyer, thought it might be neet to paint the inside like a lexan rc body. yours looks killer, great frame work.
