I'm with you on this one J. I build fairly detailed stuff and if you all saw my tools you'd laugh. I literally have alomost nothing in the way of any tools outside of a god pin vise [maybe 8 bits total]. I make all my own barrel valves and distribution blocks out of Plastruct. A good sleeve of plastruct can last a looooong time when you're building little parts. I have plenty or reference pics available and I go to work to make what I need. I do use PE I admit, but it is really limited to throttle bits and safety belts pretty much. I do use Detail Master AN fittings but am currently using Plastruct hex stock on a 1/16th Garlits build and I have it down cold. They look every bit as good and I don't have to ration them. I'm also using the hex stock for bolt heads and many other items. Plastruct flat stock has so many uses I couldn't go over them in a single evening there's that many. Plastruct is not terribly expensive so I pick up a little each time I'm at the LHS. K&S aluminum rod is also a big deal that is pretty darned cheap. I buy a couple of pieces every time I'm at the LHS and my collection grows slowly but steadily. The things that cost me the most are paint and kits. I don't even own an airbrush. I think my finishes are as good as most and all I use are rattle cans and the experience I've gained using them. I've made mistakes, but learned from them. Bob

From a wifes point a view

Women can be strange creatures indeed. A lot of you guys are lucky and I know you don't forget that. Many years ago [read: 80's] my girlfriend Carmen bought me models. She said i was home with her and I enjoyed it so why not. Smart girl. My wife was tolerant of it for the most part. She didn't have hobbies but didn't mind my comic collecting or model building either. Funny things is she hated the bands I was in. She met me when I was in a band but wanted me to give them up after we were married. Weird that. I realized my mistake and we are no longer together. Then she marries the guitarist from one of my old bands later on. That gal made no sense. But she was VERY easy on the eyes. My current gal lkes my models and does cross stitch and sews so she's always at Michaels or some other place like that. We hang out many a night and she does her thing and I do mine. We are only a room apart and since I'm always getting up for this or that I see her every few minutes. We also like Metal so i put the tunes on a lot and we groove on the latest CD. Luck has nothing to do with it I suppose. Holding out for someone that's right for you is all that's required. Bob -
I do see the front and rear fit issues you speak of. I've never built this kit so I'll save the fit advice for those who have. Those issues aside it's a very nice build. Welcome back to the hobby. Bob

THIS is a first. I have never seen this kit with the Boss Hoss decals. Darn it looks good..... Paint is MUY' sweet too Brett. My M/T build is falling short. [picking up slack] Bob

If it's a 1/8th scale model and the real car takes a 1/2" stripe, 1/16" stipers tape would be perfectly to scale. It will bend perfectly around those fenders for certain. Bob -
Not certain how I missed this great car. Welcome [belatedly] to the forums and I love this build. Keep posting your cars and join in on the fun. Bob

OK, now THAT is schweet! Brett, you are Da Man..... Gotta get me one o these one day. Bob

If you want to build the Hot Wheels version look no further than here. http://www.slixx.com/7123.htm?id=4008 This is what I'll be building. Bob -
I'm liking all the chassis mods on this one very much. Well thought out and executed. Cannot wait to see engine details emerge. I'll be watching. Bob
-
Very nice indeed sir. Nice paint and the details are excellent. Looks spot on chum. Bob
-
Srry for not offering anything Tom. Looks like you got it covered though. Maybe next time buddy. Bob
-
It sure does have those things. The PL kit comes with a SOHC for it [and the Chrysler Hemi] and of course the Logghe Stamping Co frame. I have it mocked up already but supplies are still low. I'll be getting to that one soon though. Bob

I like the hat you're staying with Brett. This is looking real good and I like the reversal of the Skippers Critter graphics. Inventive. Bob
-
Killer Brett. These old Jo-Hans are getting a workout lately. Looks great already and I'll be watching. Hotwheels eh? Not sure I've ever seen that one. Bob
-
I would love to have those Mark. Very generous indeed. I'll pay it forward when I can. I love this place! Bob

Between the brakes, the fuel pump and the shutoff, I don't know what I like best now! Excellent progress Shane. Really great stuff. Bob -

Bob

Thanks Shane. I've decided to go with the Mickey Thompson decals on this instead of Tommy Grove. I did some "actual" research on this and from what I can tell Jo-Han made this chassis and body specifically to model the MT car. Slixx has the decals so it's a done deal. Gotta get some dough for supplies. I'm running short due to other things. I'll get er there eventually. Bob

Looks great John. I have one of these kits waiting in the wings. Gotta watch those old Revell decals though. They have bitten me more than once so far. Bob
-
Do a search here John for either Tommy Ivo or just ivo. Myself and several other have already built the kit and we all did our homework so that should save you some grief. Have fun, it's a great kit. One thing though. Don't use the kit supplied steering butterfly. It's tooo big. Bob

My Dad bought me my first kit in 1970/71. We owned a "Head" shop and next door was a hobby shop. I always went in there and stared at all the models. One day Dad said "Pick one out" and i did. Revell Dave Deals Bug Bomb. Wish i still had it. Bob

Looks totally great J. I want to make some aluminum stuff too... Waaaaaaaa.... It all looks so real J, another off the charts build in the woyks. Bob

VERY high quality across the board there. I especially liked the small scale truck diorama with the tree. Bob
