Dragline

This site and a few magazines have gotten me back into modeling full tilt. I've been here trolling a bit, offer this and that but nothing of my own. So here is a car I started many years ago. It has sat in the box that sits in a bigger box full of kits and my tools and supplies. And while the spirit occasionally hit me to break em out and start crafting it usually faded behind Battlefield II, my once big bad band, guitar playing in general, drinking brewskis, chasing girls, blah, blah, blah..... So when I picked up a magazine [i can't say it, but you know which one], the bug hit me. I saw great craftsmanship and was truly inspired. I picked up a couple of back issues of Model cars and I was off to the hobby shop and eVilBay. I bought lots of stuff over the last few weeks and have been on here regular like. I enjoy seeing the WIP stuff especially so I have gotten my camera together. It was in need of an overhaul and I have 1 Staff photographer and another enthusiats in the family but they never did come to my rescue. I got it all squared today so here are only a couple of shots of where I am in the build. Lots of work to do clearly but she is coming along pretty well. I'm going for mostly correct with maybe a few artistic changes. Enjoy them and I will post progress here as it may come. Bob Frias AKA: Dragline

Off the web I bought some MORE Detail Master fittings and sanding sticks. The reissue Soupy sales kit. Locally I bought some Satco TF rear tires, some killer 5 way shoulder harness sets by some unknown [to me] company. Got to drilling my Garlits SR 1R fuel lines for the top of the hat. I'm building a chute for it today but I had to go outside and wash my car since it was FULL of salt. My SS has looked sad all winter. Took a skate around the block to break in a new set of 70mm downhill wheels. I'm wearing shorts and Vans!!! WooHoo! Dragline

Smithsonian trip postponed till tomorrow due to a 1/2 dozen people who also want to go and cant till then. Always willing to accomodate, so Sunday it is! I was pretty keyed up for it too. I'll have to temper it till the morrow. Bob

It's all settled, I'm going tomorrow [sat Feb 28th]. I have the camera and I'll take the pix. I did know about the single mag. I have some pix in an old Hot Rod somewhere. I want all the hose runs and colors up close. Big always ran that hollow hat and I'm not sure why they'd put the trad hat on it. No worries there. I'll get the plumbing pix we can use. I just got 2 shipments of Detail Master fittings of near every size and type. I have all the Dragline PE trees so this will be fun. Snake N Mongoose pix soon as well. They are finished and are just waiting for me to snap a few of em. I'll post pix for all those who wish to model this historic car. Dragline

Those are some good pix David, they will come in handy. Hmmmmmm... I live here in Baltimore. I sure could stand a trip to the Smithsonian. Can I take pix there is the question? I believe you can... I may just go on down there and snap a bunch for all who would like them. I need to see Archie Bunkers chair as well. Been some time since I've been to DC and all the museums there. ROAD TRIP!!!!!!! David, what would be great is to please share the pix you are using to get the details right. As much as this build will help, there's nothing like having the actual car to refer to. I had the opportunity to get the tour from Don in the 80's when there were 4 cars in the back shop that served as the museum at that time. There was a JJ car, Swamp Rat 1 and a couple others I dont recall. This car was still being raced at the time. I have this kit in the wings [i'm a BIG Garlits fan], so pix will help me personally, and by the looks of it several others here. Thanks Dragline

OUCH, I'm feeling out of touch here. Of course I moved here 4 years ago from Southeastern Mass so I know not one modeler here. I have not built a kit in like 4 years. In fact I usually spend my leisure time playing Battlefield II online with my clan, and the rest is playing and practicing guitar. However, I am moved.. Since I found this site I have started up 4 old projects and almost have a Snake N Mongoose pair of FE Dragsters done. So there it is. Now that I know of MaMa I wont be a stranger. 'Normally", I'm a looky loo, but I gotta say this is sweet. however, the kit wipers are hideous. This come from a USA first kinda buyer/builder as well. for what that's worth. The build is sooo sweet. Dragline

Like my builds. Not over the top on detail, but crisp. Crisp is a word that is excellent for clean builds with nice detail and not that "OMG I didn't sleep or eat for weeks" kinda nutjob build. Very nice bro. Dragline PS: A couple of MY builds to grace Drag Racing very soon.....

Sorry to see there has been no response to your question brother but it struck a chrod with me this morning. Being from the northeast I never modeled in the spring/summer times since that was such precious time to be out and about. When Autumn arrived the kits would be brought out as the weather turned and I began focusing on my "indoor" activities. Spring/summer were for my skateboard and I all through the 70's and early 80's. I don't think I touched a piece of styrene during those frigid years when the weather was even remotely decent. I guess I have a question. What is a southern states modeling schedule, or is it year round? Hope you find a club BTW. Dragline

I am from the southeast Massachusetts area so naturally I'm a NE Patriots fan. Been one since I was a kid. Now that I live in Baltimore I've adopted the Ravens as my second string favorites. Look out Pittsburgh. Baltimore has a HUGE chip on its shoulder this season. I think it'll be the best game of the year. Go Ravens [Heal up Tom, we miss you in NE]. Dragline
