My local HobbyTownUSA(Albany NY)has it on the shelf, and I'm sure thay can handle a phone sale. PM me for their number if you're keen on contacting them.

I really like it a bunch!! I've always preferred the '70 over the other years of E-bodies, and the 'hockeysticks' are my favorite Mopar stripes as well.

After using the body for a tutorial on channeling(on another board), and a visit to the 'Right Coast Rods' exhibit at our local auto museum, I decided to make a finished car out of my little deuce...and it's almost there. The inspiration, Fred Steele's historic east coast hot rod: Rolling chassis after modest lowering: Paint-detailed OOB flatty: Unchopped grille shell channeled to match the body: Finished enough(read: 'taped together') for the NNL's primer table: There's more to see at the link, and I'm hoping to wrap it up soon: SURF'S UP!!!

After teasing everyone with the small picture in my 'carb stacks' post, I wrapped up this looong overdue build...just in time for the NNL east last month. (don't mind the orange peel...that's a Testors enamel job done 20 years ago) And here it is in the MCM photo box at the NNL East. Color me a proud papa: I had this model about 90% done in the late 1980s, and boxed it up after hitting a stumbling block regarding wheels/tires and a couple other niggling little bits; it was painted and the chassis fully assembled. Fast forward to 2011: I disassembled and resprayed the engine block(20 year-old me made it orange!?), fitted a set of big & littles from a Revell 'Rat Rods' kit, and wrapped it up in just a few days' work(stretched out over a month or so). I have a bunch more pics here at the link: T TIME

I like it a bunch! A nice blend of German look and resto, and the carbon fiber is a nice touch too. The left rear tire is on backwards, however....

I'm sure they have a specific location in each store, but I stumbled upon them on a hanging rack in one of the scrapbooking aisles(?)
-
I'm sure it was. If you have trouble finding them locally, drop me a line with your snail-mail address and I'll send you some...the package I got has waaay more than I'll ever need.

The same can be said for the distributor if you decide to add plug wires. If you do wire it, break the dizzy free of the engine before the body goes on, and re-glue it after. I'm also looking forward to updates on this one, as I'm a fan of Mr. Bean and I have a Mini kit looking for inspiration too.

Armor All is merely a protectant, so I'd say no....and it would likely leave the tires slimy too. Westley's is my preferred tire cleaner in 1:1, so I'd try that.

This has been covered a time or two on the forums already; A quick click of the 'search' button yielded a couple previous threads that might prove helpful. Click the links below: HEADERS HEADERS HEADERS

Stand to hold car while airbrushing
VW Dave replied to rctori's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I still use spray cans quite often, but a small 'sticky-side-out' loop of masking tape on top of the can helps keep the body in place while laying down the color. I have a lazy Susan in my spray booth(9 bucks @ Big Lots), so there is minimal handling of the spray can stand when painting it. -
BMF/Paint/Decal Question
VW Dave replied to Tucohoward's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Like Bob says, it's a matter of personal choice. I've never cleared over BMF, but I have cleared over decals to ensure long-term durability. My only recommendation is to start with a very light coat of clear over decals to avoid 'floating' them. -
Took the words right out of my mouse, Mike; I like it too. It's rare to see one of those Revell Beetles built with so many of the kit parts.

Highly Detailed GENERAL LEE.... finally done...!1yr and 6 days
VW Dave replied to mopar01lee's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Don't ban yourself, Davin; just remember that you're ultimately doing this one for yourself. 'Accurate' or not, I'm looking forward to more pics and progress on this build!! I don't think I'll ever use PE leaf springs, but I never knew they existed and they're very cool to see in use. Isn't it ironic that Mopar models(even unfinished ones) seem to attract the largest number of nitpickers and rivet counters? -
Model Car Show in Western New York
VW Dave replied to Frankiebe's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I'm curious how far west you are from me(your profile only says 'Western NY')......that would be a big factor for me, with the price of gas and all. Is the 'Glen Model Expo' still in existence? It's been several years since I went, but I seem to recall it was in October, and right in the town of Watkins Glen. -
This might also be a problem when it comes time to paint the body, Ken....you might want to clean it now before you go too much farther. If your current stash of super glue doesn't do what it's supposed to, I'd say either re-do the glue joint with fresh stuff or use 5-minute epoxy for the job.

I don't recall it from SAE, but from one of your posts on another forum. I started painting more spoons than models in 2006, and that's when I created this Fotki album: TAMIYA PAINT TESTS I also do the Sharpie thing like Dave mentioned, as it can be hard to keep track otherwise Those spoons proved invaluable when working on my craft store acrylic paint experiments too.

A cat and model kit probably saved my life
VW Dave replied to ra7c7er's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
That's a funny line right there, and a good outcome to a potentially bad story. Glad you're OK, and I also recommend CO detectors for your future protection. -
A super build of my favorite Ferrari; the wheel upgrade really suits it too.
-
Offbeat, and loaded with attitude...me likey. The aircooled motor up front is a nice twist as well. I'd love to see more details of the build too.

Interested in taking on a project for $
VW Dave replied to 29A Kenny's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Lyle is a 'he,' and that's who I'd recommend as well. -
My most recent '32 Ford made it to the primer table at the NNL East, and I'm slowly picking away at it. It started as a mule for a tutorial on channeling, and I decided to make it a complete car after a few inspirational trips to the 'Right Coast Rods' exhibit at our local car museum.

Odds are it was a Kübelwagen you saw, and Steve is unfortunately right...comparing the Kübel and Thing is like apples and oranges. To the best of my knowlegde, no kit of the Type 181 'Thing' has been made. A very enterprising modeler converted a Hasegawa Kübel into an off-road Thing, but that's the only one I've seen.

I'm looking forward to seeing this one, as it's one of my favorite films. I'm gathering parts for my 'double' Better Of Dead build(the tarped driveway version and the later version we see in the film). Have you seen www.betteroffdeadcamaro.com ?
