What did you see on the road today?

Used to own a 73 Plymouth Gold Duster. Not a bad little car. Slant 6 but had lots of fun with it. Later- -
Canadian 340 Dart Website
Modlbldr replied to 1972coronet's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Having just read the entire article and that I am located not far from the Canadian border I am more determined now to go look at the VIN on the Swinger I found. Who knows.... Would be cool to find one. Is the tag on the dash as it is on most vehicles? Not sure if the guy is friendly or not. Never have gotten him to answer the door. http:// -

Spray paint = throwing paint away?
Modlbldr replied to Lovefordgalaxie's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I am almost ashamed to say that it took me eight cans to paint my custom 41 Willys! That was expensive..... I kept having problems with the paint reacting to something. My hood and the rear window area kept blistering as the paint was drying. I thought at first that it was a reaction to the glue in those areas (heavy mods in those areas). Then I began to think that it was something in the water or soap that I was using to clean the body with. Never did figure it out but I finally got it all to settle down. Oh, and then there was the two times I dropped it while the paint was wet. I am very glad that I got through it but, man, did it cut into the model budget. http:// http:// Later- -

Just checking in with a verbal update, no photos. Got all of the wood done and have about half of the windows in. I used the templates from the kit to cut the side windows. After cutting them all out I was disappointed to find out that the templates are too small. They end up with the windows being just as big as the opening but not big enough to glue in the grooves. So now I have to find some new window material. I have a buddy molding me three wheels using mine as the pattern, so I am waiting to get them and detail them. I also borrowed some paint from him to mix up a brass color for the bell. Long story short, I haven't made much forward progress this week. Stay tuned. Later-

Good to hear Jason. Yeah, I understand when a breakthrough happens you have to run with it. I have a stalled 66 El Camino because I can't get up the nerve or the time to do the BMF. I want to do it all in one shot. I just figured out last night that the next time my wife goes out of town for a couple of days I am going to blitz it. That only happens once every few years. Later-

Finally getting the wood stained and beginning the install. The wood panels are Birch with a Minwax Golden Oak stain and a coat of Future. Once the wood dries in place I will put another coat of Future on it to help seal it in place. http:// http:// Later-

Not really on the road but.....this has been sitting in this driveway for the last 10 years that I know of. What a shame. http:// Later- -

Man, David, that looks fantastic! Great work on those decals. I have been working on mine for the last couple of days. Just pecking away at little details. I decided to do real wood on the panels after testing out a couple of different stains on my Birch wood. Unfortunately, I brought home the wrong stain so I have to drive 30 miles into town on one of the WORST weekends to have to go into town! Oh well. I talked to a buddy of mine last night and he and I are going to cast my wheel master so that I don't have to make 3 more. That will save a bit of time. Later-

I was talking to a friend of mine last night. She runs a small thrift shop (mainly furniture). I told her that if she ever came across any model related stuff to set it aside for me. She told me that she has a box of built models in here shed from her deceased brother that I can have. She said that she remembers him building models back when she was about 10. That would make them, at least, 30 years old. She knows that there is a Star Trek Enterprise and thinks that there are a few cars. Who knows. Could be garbage, could be gold. I am DYING to see what GOLD is there! Stay tuned.... Later-
