94 Ford Lightning
Modlbldr replied to Modlbldr's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Thank you Dave. I realize now why I usually customize all of my builds. This one is pretty boring, especially in white. Later- -
This is another of my epic builds. I started this thing in 2007 and I am finally calling it finished, although it is missing the bed side decals. I am waiting for some to arrive in the mail from Canada. I only did a few modifications on this one, which for me is amazing. Usually I do major custom work. I added a bed cover, added traction bars on the rear axle and added a few extras to the engine. Here it is. http:// http:// http:// http:// http:// http:// More to come. Later-

When I repainted the bed cover I got a dime sized spot of orange peel on the back passenger corner of the cover. After three attempts to sand it down , reprime and repaint it continued to show back up. So I sanded it down a fourth time and sprayed a few mist coats from a foot above to give the bed cover a textured look. Problem solved! http:// Tomorrow I will get back to my plan of attaching the bed and cab to the chassis. Later- -
I'm up for a little out of the comfort zone. Later-

Might be a good idea to try again. Later- -

Interesting history lesson Art. Thanks. Perhaps it is more feasible than I expected. Ensuring that only sprue was returned would be a difficult venture. Sure would be interesting to see it worked out somehow. Later- -
John, I posted this in the "What did you get today?" post a week or so ago but thought I would show a shot or two here. I ordered a resin hood for mine from a guy on FB. He doesn't claim to be great at it and says his castings may need some work, but for $7.95 SHIPPED I figured I'd take a chance. He actually sent me two for that price. http:// http:// http:// They are not bad. Hope you don't mind the hijack. Later-

So, pull up a chair and listen to my tales of woe. I had the bed glued on to the chassis. In order to fix the paint splatter on the bed cover I taped off everything except the bed cover and threw a quick coat of primer, a couple coats of paint and a couple of clear, all with the proper amount of drying time. Once I removed the tape I saw that I had not properly sealed everything and had a bit of white over spray on my front tires and the underside of the engine and front suspension. Also, my tape removed the two Lightning decals on the bed sides!!!! These are not the easiest or cheapest kits to find so I was quite frustrated. I packed it all back in the box and called it done. The next day cooler heads prevailed and I posted on some FB sites for two tires and a set of decals. One guy offered up two tires for free and another (from Canada) offered up the decals, also for free. I have since touched up the over spray on the underside and replaced the tires. I am still waiting for the decals to arrive although he sent me a message saying he mailed them on the 26th. On to the progress. I have been planning on a bit more engine bay details such as A/C hoses. http:// http:// http:// Got the windshield and interior in today. http:// http:// I'm feeling good that I didn't give up on this one. It has had it's moments but they have all been my fault. The kit is a very good kit and easy to build. Tomorrow I should be able to get the cab and bed on the chassis and finish up a few small details. Hope the decals show up tomorrow. Later- -
I'm hoping this goes through. Sounds like a fun and interesting idea. Later-

Just wondering if there wasn't a possibility of a program to ship a "collection" of sprue back to a modelling company to be melted down and reused? I'm sure the logistics would negate the possibility but if it could be worked out it may be a cost savings to the company. Something along the lines of the idea that the package would need to be of a minimum weight (say 5 lbs, in order to make it worth opening the package on their end) and would need to be only white sprue (who wants a new kit molded in a multi-colored or greyish, greenish, brownish color). This way they may be able, eventually, to cut the cost of a new kit down a dollar or two and those who do not like the spue in the landfill can feel good about doing their part. Just an idea to, if nothing else, have another topic to discuss..... Later- -
I'd be up for this. Count me in. I need another project to start....... I think it would be a fun idea. I build cars and pickups but I wouldn't mind just about anything other than military and evil/ grotesque Sci fi (religious reasons). I am in Washington state. Later-

Moebius replacement parts
Modlbldr replied to Modlbldr's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Good to hear Nic. Nice to know that there are still companies that operate like this. Perhaps I'll give them time to get back up to speed since my hood is not urgent. Later- -
Loving the work that you are doing on the Mercury but I'm really interested in your boat. I am trying to build one to tow behind a custom 39/40 Ford Sedan. I may scrap my project and pattern a new one after yours. Later-

Moebius replacement parts

Thanks. I'll check it out. Later- -
Does anyone know if Moebius has a missing parts replacement program similar to Revell? I got a 55 300 from a friend and it is missing the hood. I'd like to see if I can purchase one from them. Later-

Just got these from a guy at work who picked them up at a yard sale for me. All complete. The Daytona is sealed inside. The Chevies have the engines nicely started. All for $10. http:// Later-

Nice work. Love the new boom. I never did like the one in the kit. I'll be watching this build. I have a box of pieces and parts from the Kevorkian kit. Sure would like to find a complete one someday. Later- -

Tonight some progress and a slight setback. First, the progress. I completed the engine work, including a scratchbuilt coil module. http:// I got the engine and bed installed. http:// http:// I also got the firewall painted and clear coated and all of the bits that attach to the firewall painted. Now for the setback. I was painting a small part acrylic flat black and was holding it with a pair of tweezers when it went sailing and skidded across the top of the bed cover. http:// No matter how much I wiped and washed it there is still some marks. Fortunately it was only across the top. I'll have to tape it off and spray it again. The other good thing is that I have a definite edge that will ease the blending, if any is needed. Enough work for tonight. Time for bed. Later-
