  1. Nice looking truck! Only thing that would probably improve it is if you raised the rear of the bed slightly, and if you narrowed the axles a bit.
  2. I should have looked around when I was there. I basically made a bee line for the car isle and promptly left with my (awesome) purchase. (Plus I wasn't sure if I would get towed where I was parked, the little lot between the store and DQ).
  3. So they were in Wyoming! I was looking for model stores a while back on Google maps and saw that it was in Wyoming, but when I went over there, I didn't see it at all. Then I found their website and saw that they were actually in Coon Rapids (10 miles for me). It's the closest one to me and my go-to store when I don't wanna shop online (plus Hobbytown moved and has gone downhill lately). I actually just went to SMS a couple weekends ago for the first time.
  4. Definitely hit SMS, it's like a modelers paradise!
  5. Got the engine partially completed. Just need to add the belts/pulleys, make a bracket for the alternator, and add the exhaust manifolds and fan.
  6. Thanks guys. I'm still amazed how with just a little painting, a kit can go from a toy to something that looks real!
  7. Yeah leaving the seams is odd, however the headlight rings are due to him trying to convert the European style headlights to the sealed-beam US style lights. As for my build, I'm almost done with the engine and hope to have some pictures posted by tonight.
  8. Unless a 4WD will be part of the "series of trucks", then the long bed should have been a 4WD and the short bed a 2WD. Otherwise, I'm very interested to see what the mock-ups look like!
  9. The finish on the wheels certainly helped (how they came), but the paint I used was "Premium Decor" metallic gold.
  10. I found a thread on a forum that this guy posted the pics in, and the guys there were asking him the same thing.
  11. That sort of detail would be great for any large kit of your favorite subject! Of course, there's no 1/12 Jeep YJ kits available, so I'm scratchbuilding my own (got the frame mostly done, leaf springs and front axle partially done). I'll actually scan it into my computer later and if you want to PM me your e-mail address, I could send it to you that way.
  12. The kit I got came with both the original AMG instructions (in Japanese), and a set for the stock version (in English). Tomorrow I'll take pics of whichever you need and send them to you.
  13. Gotta remember this is from Revell of the 70's (Monogram made the tool for the '77 GMC pickup, which is why it is better quality). What Revell of today should have done was take the '77 GMC pickup kit, and figure out how to combine the two to make a new release of the wrecker without having to make a new tool.
  14. Looks like your best bet is get two kits, lop off the rear of one and graft it onto the other (along with extending the middle if it's needed). Then, you could use the incomplete first van kit and build it into a cube van or RV.
  15. I've determined the color I'm going to use (though the sucky thing is I can't get a pic, my camera makes it look too blue). It's Ford Deep Jewel Green Metallic over a gold metallic basecoat. Let's just say the gold really makes the color pop! I'll have to paint the engine compartment soon so you guys can get an idea of what it looks like.
  16. Got the wheels painted gold, added the "Rial" decals, and gave each wheel a chrome valve stem.
  17. Looks great and I love the colors you chose. However, personally I think the graphics you tried to do aren't as good as they could be. I think it would have looked better if you would have done the "tear" effect to both the black and the green. Right now it looks a bit like the clearcoat is worn off from over the black (perhaps a silver would have stood out better).
  18. Do you have a picture of the break?
  19. Thinking of building it any time soon?
  20. Over the past weekend I purchased a vintage Otaki 1/12 scale Mercedes 450SLC kit, and plan on doing a detailed build (well, a bit more detailed than the already insanely detailed kit) as well as adding LEDs for the front and rear. I'm going to keep the scratchbuilding to a minimum, since that's what's slowed down my other 1/12 builds. Here's some pics of the kit and what's inside. Colors will be dark green metallic exterior, light tan interior, and gold-centered BBS wheels. I also might do some gold accents on the body to contrast the green. Upon opening the kit, I noticed that the parts and assembly quality is on par with modern Tamiya and Aoshima kits, and is way better IMO than any Revell 1/12 kit (comes with opening hood, doors, trunk, working suspension, rolling wheels mounted with nuts/bolts, separate gauges, and (oddly enough), two sprues with the various lenses (one in red and one in amber).)
  21. Initially, it's the salesperson's fault who didn't pay attention to the price of the vehicle (even if the guy was trying to pull a scam, wouldn't the salesperson know that generally most of the vehicles on the lot have different prices?) If they would have noticed and said something, either the guy would have backed out (scam) or would probably have paid the difference (not scam). Secondly, whoever phoned the police that it was stolen should have been arrested for filing a false report. Also, sure the $2+ million seems excessive, but remember that the jury (and judge) have the final say in the amount actually awarded to any party. They could award more, or find that the number is excessive and award less.
  22. Agreed. Plus with it being a snapper, I was finally able to finish a build in a reasonable time!
  23. Built a snap-tite Hummer a long time ago (like back when I was in elementary school), and just left it in the red plastic it was molded in. This past week, I decided to rebuild it as a quick project, and I must say it's a complete transformation. Before: After:
  24. Scale Model Supplies, and I guess it's in St. Paul and not Minneapolis.
