I found a can of Alclad spray paint that says it's for Lexan. Would that work on plastic as well, or would it be too "hot"? Reason I ask is I don't have a airbrush so I can't use the bottled stuff.

Cool! Once I get the kit I'll get started. I've already picked out the green I'm going to use, and the wheels are going to be a set of 17" Fujimi gold wire wheels that I just received.

4x4 help
Jordan White replied to c-man405's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Yes, if you plan on building more 4x4s, I would suggest bookmarking Jeff's first link. It's come in handy for me numerous times. -
Alright if I join? I've got a '96 Impala SS coming and a set of wire wheels on hand and was planning on making a lowrider with it.

Lightning Expedition
Jordan White replied to blubaja's topic in Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
That looks awesome! And yeah, I also thought the wheels looked a bit small, though they do measure out to around 18-19" scale. Edit: Actually it's the tires that are short. Stock 295/45R18 tires are approximately 28" tall, whereas the kit tires only scale out to around 24-25" tall. -
Cussler's books are certainly a great read, I've read all the Dirk Pitt and Kurt Austin books, besides the newest ones, and a couple of the Oregon series as well. I noticed it hasn't been mentioned yet, but a series that I would suggest everyone to check out is the "Destroyermen" series, by Taylor Anderson. The overall story arc is a WWII US destroyer that gets sucked into a storm and brought into a different world where an ongoing war is occurring between two strange races, and the US destroyer helps the "good" side attempt to defeat the "evil" by taking technology from their timeline and applying it in the new world. It's great for people who like the whole "into a new world" storyline, as well as people who are into the Navy and Navy stories. Taylor actually uses plenty of factual information in his stories, but makes them very entertaining as well. I believe at this point there are 7 books out in stores.

What kit would have these wheels?
Jordan White replied to GMP440's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Closest you might come is the wheels from the Dukes Charger kit or any other turbine-spoke wheels you come across (A-team van perhaps?) -
Monogram Bronco
Jordan White replied to southernboy's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Yup, it's a somewhat basic kit. However if it's what you want, then that's good to hear. -

You gonna keep it red, or do you have another color in mind? -

Monster van is freakin' awesome! As for the suspension, I'd suggest perhaps making some coilovers and a 4 link...of course, if you want simple, then go leafs. -

You using the TTB from one of the Bronco kits, or are you going solid axle? (My guess is the latter due to the height). -
Might be a little tougher to have a TV show since the railroaders and 1:1 guys can actually use their builds in action, whereas with model cars they would just sit on a shelf. However, it would be cool to have a show where each episode is a different model show where the camera will show off the different builds and talk to some of the builders. There could also maybe be a segment each week that does a review of a model kit.

Yup, Wheeler Dealers seems like it would be dry and boring like Motorweek or This Old House, but it's oddly entertaining.

Scout II

AMT put it out a while back, you may still be able to find one at a local hobby shop or online. -
JBwelda: First you complain that the staff put your motorcycle build in the other section with a bunch of different builds, then you wonder why everything is separated into different sections and why it's not all together? Isn't that a little counter intuitive? As I've said in every other thread about this subject, I personally love the separation, since it makes finding the certain builds you're looking for that much easier. Same with separating the large scale builds. Why do a search in the under glass section for a 1/12 Bel Air, and have it spit out every 1/25 Bel Air build as well, when you can have the large scale area separate and not have to worry about attempting to search by scale (since the search function never seems to work that smoothly). Edit: As for the separation of pickups and semis, I like this as well since I spend more time looking at the pickups/SUVs/vans section than the semi truck section. I hate how they have it all combined at Scale Auto (also including rescue/maintenance cars) since I have to scroll past all the semi trucks to find the builds I want to see. Honestly I don't see the issue with a little separation. If you want to see everything, or are too lazy to click into a few different forums, then click the "view new content" button and you're all set.

Generally the rat rods I've seen have very little money put into them (except maybe the engine), it seems that they either find free parts or get parts for cheap. (That's not saying that they are generally poorly built however) I could say the same thing about not understanding towards the guys who put tens of thousands of dollars into a shiny billeted street queen that looks the same as every other billeted street queen, save for maybe the color. Edit: Here's a rat rod that I've seen at a recent show. It may look ratty and undriveable, but in the bed is the real engineering.

The Syclone and Typhoon used a full time AWD transfer case, similar to the Astro/Safari. Edit: why? Probably to better transfer the power and low range wasn't needed.

Ford Van... imported from Turkey!
Jordan White replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
The Transit Connect may still be built in Turkey, but it sounds like the full-size Transit will be built in Kansas City for the US (all versions). http://www.autoblog....-and-diesel-po/ Edit: Yes it looks like a Sprinter, however the Transit has been around for much longer (plus all vans in Europe seem to have the same general look, since it must work best for space).
