  1. Not necessarily slander, I was just thinking more of a "timeframes may vary" sort of deal, basically saying that any resin place may take a while to have the parts made and sent. Seems like many people think that it's like a regular business, and that the parts will be out in a few weeks. Just sayin.
  2. Could one of the mods make a pinned thread about RR so these sorts of threads can be prevented?
  3. Here's a quick guide. 1: Click username in top right corner, click on "my settings" 2: Click "change my photo" 3a: Either click in the box "upload from file" and choose a photo (not sure on max size, but I'd suggest less than 750x750 pixels) 3b: or click on the box "import photo from URL" and paste in a URL of the picture from a photo sharing site. 4: click crop if you wish to move where the subject is placed, looks like you really can just move the crop box from side to side. 5: click "done" and voila, you should have an avatar.
  4. I'd say that 90% don't know how to add one.
  5. Whereas I'm the opposite. I prefer separate categories so I can more easily find what I want to look at. I know this wouldn't work as well for the Big Boyz section since it's not very popular, but every other build is a pro-street build, which I have no interest in other than to occasionally see some of the details they do. Practically every other forum I've been to uses separate categories for the builds, and it seems like it wouldn't matter if it's done here due to the aforementioned "new content" button, since it would allow those of you who want to see all builds...well, be able to see all builds. But hey, as long as pickup trucks stays separate from the rest, then I'll be fine here.
  6. Yeah, would be nice if they would rerelease these kits, and maybe add some new parts as well as a 4WD version.
  7. Fixed it for you, the Travelall was the 4-door wagon version similar to the Suburban. Build looks great, though the wheels and decals are a bit much for my taste!
  8. My WIP thread is on the first page in this forum, no pics of the body yet but I will say the paint job will be based on the '71 Mach 1.
  9. Finally got the interior finished. Mostly stock with the addition of a Hurst shifter with T-handle, front seat belts, and I painted the seats in a black and red two-tone. You can also see what the exterior color will be, Ford Cardinal Red, though I haven't done any detail painting yet.
  10. Yeah they are good trucks. I actually like the look of the airbag wheel, at least the one up to '02. Only thing that sucks is it's harder to add an aftermarket wheel. Build is looking good so far Nick, I always love replica builds since it can be interesting to see how people make parts that aren't found in kit form already.
  11. Mainly because the kit tires are usually junk. You know, I'd gladly pay a few bucks more a kit if it meant getting name brand tires. I mean, I'd be paying anyways for aftermarket stuff, and this way it would be going to the manufacturer. Plus it would mean more tires that I would want to use for other kits if I decided on aftermarket stuff anyways.
  12. Yeah the resin wheels are a 19" set of Cragar S/S style wheels. I purchased a set for my build as well. The guy who makes them also makes a bunch of other cool wheels, most for 24/25th scale.
  13. It's actually been around for a few years now. I think I mentioned it before, but nothing ever really came of it.
  14. Yeah it's happened to me as well. That's why I just made it a habit to click on "model cars magazine forum". Doesn't matter much anyways, since the "model cars" section is at the top of the page.
  15. 1st thing is tires, of course that's more of a funds issue. 2nd thing is brakes. Why can't all (new) kits come with separate brakes, rather than the wheel backs, even if they don't have see-through wheels? It wouldn't create an increase in parts, and would provide that little bit of detail. Of course, it would mean that the wheels would have to be designed as one piece, but Tamiya doesn't seem to have a problem with it. I guess the third thing would be front suspensions molded as one large blob with the steering linkage attached. Sure it might be less pieces to mold and assemble, but it looks stupid and doesn't allow the builder the option of poseable steering. Again, this is an area where Tamiya shines.
  16. Easiest way is to get a free photo sharing account (if you don't already have one) such as Photobucket or Fotki and upload the pictures through it.
  17. Well I got the engine assembled and painted. I still have some detail work to do, but it's complete as far as kit parts. I went with a blue block, heads, oil pan, and cam covers to mimic the blue painted engines in the original.
  18. If this build isn't going to be done any time soon, I'd like to join. I'm going to build a 1/12 2011 Mustang Mach 1 concept.
  19. What kits is this based on? The '99 Silverado may not have sold well because it was only a 2WD 1500 model. Ford had either the basic F150 or the Harley Davidson models. Newest Dodge had was the 2nd Gen. I think if they released a 4WD HD model, then they would possibly sell better. Why did they rerelease the '90s F250 kit? 2WD wasn't probably the best decision, but it sold because it was an HD model that could be used for many different types of vehicles. Sure the subjects you mentioned sell well, but they have been kitting some unique vehicles lately that have been selling. Again, this is where a poll would be great to put out, to see in fact whether a new truck kit would potentially be a hit.
  20. Yeah I'm surprised that Revell hasn't done any of the new pickups yet. They are popular, and provide plenty of customization options. Plus they would provide more options for tow vehicles.
  21. Yeah, by all means build it how you want. That's the fun in building!
  22. Baja trucks have IFS since they do a lot of high speed dune runs where they will need to soak up large bumps and ruts, plus they are only RWD. For the most part though, people swap in solid axles since they allow for more flex, simpler operation, and less chance for breakage. When I think of trail rig, I think of driving down dirt roads or rutted trails in the woods. These roads don't really favor one suspension type over the other, so it's a draw. Portal axles are used when you want the benefits of a solid axle, but would like more ground clearance, which is generally for more extreme conditions. Personally, I think you should stick with standard solid axles front and rear, and mount the springs over the axles for a bit of lift. If you want more lift, you can heat up the springs slightly and re-arch them.
  23. I think he's actually building the car from Fast & Furious.
  24. The scratchbuilding is looking good so far. I'm just curious as to why you decided to go with an IFS? In the 1:1 world this would be seen as counter-intuitive, especially since you're making a portal axle for the rear.
  25. That's a good looking dually. As for the engine bay, the actual truck is fairly empty as well. Course a big block would probably fill it out a little more in the 1:1. Sucks that the kit has such poor detail in the bay.
