That's awesome ken! Looks like how I'm planning on doing mine, with body color bumpers and trim. Since this will be one of the only large scale builds I'm doing (or rather redoing), I'm going to go into detail with it. Oh, how did you end up hinging your doors?
-
Going the stock route with yours?

As the title states, post your built Revell-o-gram 1/12 scale '57 Bel Airs. Since many threads that I've seen have pictures that don't exist anymore, I figured it would be cool for everyone to post 'em up here. Here's mine as of now (though I plan on rebuilding it this summer):

Glad you're getting the answers you need, but next time could you please make a more descriptive title?

I just want to know when the '77 GMC pickup is going to be released, I'm just itching to get a few of them!

Tamiya....lets get it right.

However that's with a single "L". Double "L"s generally produce an "el" sound, such as bell, hell, sell, etc. At least that's how I think of it. Also, when an "e" is added at the end, that means the preceding vowel is a long sound (sale, frame, sole, etc.). Whenever there's a word such as belle with a short vowel, it's generally taken from the French language. -

Rev-el. You don't pronounce bell "bull" do ya? -

Yeah I know that now. However I still say Will-ees just because that's the way it looks like it would be pronounced (plus it sounds better to me) -

I say it as Tahm-yah. As for Willys, I say it as Will-ees since before I heard the "correct" way to pronounce it, I'd never heard the name Willy produced as will-ih. Oh, and I also say Legos instead of Lego bricks, since I like to go against the establishment. -
finished my 1 to 1 Schwinn Sting Ray!

Pretty cool! My dad restored one several years back, I believe it's a 1969. My brother also picked up an unrestored 1968ish model. -
MPG estimates vs. reality
Jordan White replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Like I said on the previous page: -
Yeah I know about the differences, though I mocked them up and they would work. However, I think I'm going to scratchbuild some larger flares instead. Chris: Actually the TTB is from the AMT Ford Bronco. I like it better because the arms are separate pieces, which means they can be positioned any way you want as well as the ability to add leaf springs like I did.

Oh man, forgot all about this! No I haven't finished it yet, it's sitting in my closet right now. Though since my last posts I decided that I'm making this a solid axle truck (since the real 350 came with a solid axle) and I swapped the front of the chassis with another F-250 frame. I might pull it back out this summer though to do some more work on it.

MPG estimates vs. reality

Okay guys, I've been following this and here's why she's suing Honda. Basically they found that under regular usage, the batteries in the hybrid Civics wouldn't last as long as they thought they would. Rather than deal with many early warranty claims, they decided to have the owners bring their cars in for a computer update that makes it so the system doesn't use the battery as much. Well this brings in the issue of the gas engine doing more of the work, and with a low powered engine hauling around a car that has the extra weight of the less-helpful batteries, well the fuel mileage decreases quite a bit. If she wanted a regular gas Civic, she would have bought it. However she decided to rather get the hybrid, where the batteries help the engine with power and reduce fuel usage. Since this is now not the case, she decided to sue (and was smart to do it in small claims). Oh, and at least it wasn't some insane amount of money either. I really don't see less than 10 grand unreasonable when the class action suits are attempting to get millions (couple hundred for each person involved, the rest for the lawyers). And as far as the McDonalds hot coffee case goes, A) the coffee was much hotter than it should have been B] McDonalds had been cited several times for not lowering the temperature C) she only wanted money for hospital bills but the jury awarded her more and D) the jury decided that she was in fact partly at fault, which did reduce the amount she was awarded. -
Donor Engines
Jordan White replied to Stephen H's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I do this a lot, and do purchase kits simply for engines. I'll also take engines from older built kits if I don't care for the kits too much. -
Help with F350, planning and plotting
Jordan White replied to Pakmule87's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Best bet is grab an AMT F-150 regular cab-long bed kit and a Revell/Monogram F-350 Dually kit to start. Pics would help for the exterior stuff, but I think some people have been able to use the 7.5L V8 from the F-350 kit to make the 7.3L Diesel. -
Check into R/C tires for 1/18th scale R/C cars. It's best to go to a local hobby store that sells R/C cars so you can see the tires in person and get some measurements.

Do You Follow the Instructions?
Jordan White replied to SuperStockAndy's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Instructions? Are those the pieces of paper that I use to line the table while I paint? -
I'll give one good reason why I start "show your" threads: because pictures don't always stay in threads. If people are using a photo sharing site, after a few years or whatever once their threads have moved down several pages on the forum, they may decide to delete the pictures. When this happens, you can't see the pictures if you open up an old thread. This is why search is a hit or miss affair for finding what you want (well that and finding out which words get you the results you want). Why search and find several threads with no pictures when you can simply ask and people can repost their pics in one spot? Plus I don't see how these threads would detract from people's "time in the spotlight" as you put it. If it's an interesting build, then people will look at it and perhaps comment on it.

I remember you saying something about the kit wheels being the wrong ones for a 2WD, though you may have deleted it. Anywho you're correct, since the wheels pictured are the high offset wheels necessary for the wider suspension setup, hence the 2WD models came with low-offset wheels. I'd suggest using a set from a newer S10 kit to have it look more accurate (well as accurate as the 'owner' putting a more modern set of wheels on it), though ironically you'd possibly have an issue with where the wheels sit due to the way they set up the suspension pieces!

The New NASCAR
Jordan White replied to Patrick2005's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
x2, that's basically what it's starting to boil down to. Heck, it's already a redneck sport, they might as well go all out and turn it into a sport with the fake drama and rivals...would certainly make it more interesting!
