Yeah I know about the Tamiya body, though I'm going to scratchbuild my own since it's easy enough to do. Plus I can detail easier and I don't have to cut off the doors, hood, and roof. 1/12 is also better since I can use dimensions from the 1/24 Tamiya kit and just upscale them by 2. Anywho, got the basic frame together. I wanted to bend the tubing for the frame rails, but since it was rectangle tube, it didn't want to bend at all. So I just cut it apart and glued it in the shape I wanted, and then "laminated" the top and bottom with some strip styrene. Once I get the rest of the details on (body mounts, leaf spring mounts, etc.), I'm going to put on some bondo to fill in the gaps. Compared to my 1/24 Tamiya Frame Leaf springs almost complete (just need to add the leaf retainers)

Looks very nice! I like the paint scheme you chose. Surprised that you don't see too many built. I built one box stock with the kit decals, but decided to go with a body colored grille.

Brand New 65 Mustangs
Jordan White replied to Skydime's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
You know, it seems like doing something like this should be considered legal. If you can provide documented proof that it is a new body rather than one from an existing vehicle, then it should be fine to use the old VIN tags. On topic though, I think that it's great that companies are starting to offer new steel bodies for vintage cars. Companies have been making fiberglass tubs for Jeeps, Broncos, and Scouts for years. Sure if the original body is clean enough to simply weld in panels, it's all good. However if the body is filled with rot, then it would be simpler to just get a brand new body (especially one that's built better than the original). There's also the fact that people can build their own chassis for the body if they so choose, and I believe in many states it could be registered as a kit car. Of course, not sure how insurance would work for that. -
Yes you read right, I'm going to take on the daunting task of making a 1/12 scale Jeep Wrangler, scratchbuilt mind you! I've started on the frame, and have gotten the framerails pretty much complete. Don't have pics yet since I didn't finish the frame quite yet, but I'll have some pics monday. I'm also going to start on making the axles. How I determined the frame dimensions was easy. I found a nice picture online that had the specs of the frame (in mm), so all I did was measure the picture with a ruler, and determine the scale of the picture; using some maths, I was able to find the correction factor to convert the dimensions to 1/12 scale, so basically all I had to do was measure the frame on the paper with a ruler, and then upscale it with the correction factor in order to get my 1/12 dimensions. The build itself will be mostly stock, with a few minor mods. Paint job will be a secret though, until I get around to painting it! Keep in mind I'm going to school as well, so it will be a long project!

Stupid question?

Or the question that's already been answered. -
Best opening scene from a movie ever!
Jordan White replied to Pete J.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
You know, I've always wondered about that...since it was the only red Fury, was it a special order? (I don't remember if they mentioned it or not.) If not, how was it sprayed red (was the paint sprayer evil?) If it was special ordered, was the red paint evil? Maybe it was like the made for TV Herbie movie where an evil picture was dropped in the paint mix. Of course if it was the paint, then wouldn't all the other Belvederes that used that red be evil? -
Red Green's Possum Van

Normally they have an episode every Thursday night (I believe) on PBS. Or you can do like I mentioned above and buy the DVDs. -

Nice thing is they have the DVD sets on Amazon, 1-3, 4-6, etc. Only thing is they're expensive, but if you keep an eye on them, they'll sometimes have them for cheap. -

That's awesome! I prefer the looks of the maxivan version over the regular length version they had later on, but regardless you did a great job on that. -
What is everyones opinion on the I-Hobby announcements?
Jordan White replied to GMP440's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
So basically just get one of the older AMT GMC truck kits and get the resin long bed. -

Plus the Fall Guy truck was an 80's model. AMT's GMC pickup was once out as a Fall Guy kit, then later they made it a normal truck with all the extra parts (and of course the stupid bed compartment "doors" on the bedsides remained). -

I'm looking forward to the 70's GM pickup with the plow. Not only is it the style of Chevy/GMC that I love the most, it also comes with a plow and some cool extra parts. I plan on at buying at least three: one to make into a 2WD long bed 3/4 ton in the way that I wanted to build my 1:1 truck (before I sold it), one to make into a 1 ton flatbed plow truck with gooseneck hitch (for my Galaxy triple axle), and a third to make into a GMC Jimmy High Sierra. Bye bye money! Hopefully they are sold at Micheals so I can use the discount coupons! -
Man, if they would come out with the CJ and Chevy K again I would definitely buy one of each!

Definitely going to be getting me some of those GMC truck kits! -
Wheels and wheel covers
Jordan White replied to Repstock's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I have noticed that. To me, the definitions are: wheels - metal parts of the rolling assembly, I always count the tires as a separate entity wheel covers - metal for the older cars, and plastic for the newer cars, I consider these as the full facings that cover a steel wheel rims - the rim of the wheel that the tire bead attaches to, I also like to use this for the entire wheel when making fun of the big shiny wheels on the donks and such; see "rimz" hubcaps - whatever covers the wheel hub/center, may or may not also cover the lugnuts but doesn't cover the entire wheel -
Flat paint in contests
Jordan White replied to Jantrix's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I've said it before and I'll say it again, every genre and class of vehicles has their share of unsafe/unsafe looking builds. As to the point at hand, I think flat finishes should be included with the shiny ones. I do know that if you don't get the flat finish right, it will look uneven or even have the grain look out of scale. Getting flat to sit right can be plenty of work, except you don't have to do the work of buffing out a polish. -
I pre-ordered the LCE from Amazon, and it should be here tomorrow. I can't wait to get it also, since I love playing FM3 and 4 just looks and sounds so much better. I was a die-hard Gran Turismo fan, but when the bomb called GT5 dropped, I figured I'd give Forza a shot.

what shouldn't be!
Jordan White replied to mytricia's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Molded in engine-compartment details. They're usually a major pain to try and detail paint. Much better to have them be separate pieces. Off of this, lack of engine compartment details. -
do wheels make or break your projects
Jordan White replied to Lownslow's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I think the wheels do make or break the build. They have to have the perfect size and backspacing in order to look good on a build. In fact, I just purchased a set of wheels from Wheelman and I went and bought a kit on eBay that I think they would look perfect on.
