  1. Really nice! I've got a '62 on the back burner, with Cady decals--hope it turns out as sharp as yours...
  2. This is great! Your work and commentary strikes just the right note with me to inspire me to complete my own Bullitt, and gives me some great tips to improve mine. I really like the louvers--something else I hadn't thought of, and a nice touch...thanks. Keep the posts and pics coming, OK?
  3. Great job, beautiful model. Now if only mine come out so well...
  4. Wish I could, guys, but no digital camera. Trust me, though, it's unlike anything I've ever come up with before...just imagine a '57 Chevy in candy bronze/burgundy/dark orange--uh, as soon as I have a camera, I'll post some photos, OK?
  5. OK, I'll admit that this is probably more interesting to me than to anyone else, but still, I'm gonna share. First off, I'm a rattle can enamel guy--I don't own an airbrush, and to date I've shied away from lacquers for various reasons. So, yesterday after work, since the weather was cooperating, I thought I'd paint one of the Revell '57 Chevy utility sedans. Since I was going for a 60s SoCal street racer look, I decided to try and replicate "Honduras Maroon" with Testors burgundy red metallic. Looking through my paint junk, I found a can of Plasticote copper I thought I'd undercoat with, and, man, did I get a surprise when I finished with the burgundy! I still haven't figured out what color the Chevy is, but I do like it. Best way I can describe it is a dark bronze, and it really looks deep--it turned out almost a candy finish. Next to something in straight burgundy red, it looks dark orange, but next to my Mazmanian Willys in candy apple red, it looks more maroon. I'm really pleased with the results, even though I'm not exactly sure what color I've got. Ah, serendipity...
  6. Wow! Really nice! I like the cars, especially the Chevelle--what did you use for that shade of green? Again, nice work.
  7. Just an FYI, I was flipping through a book I own, "Cars of the fabulous '50s", and there was a small photo of a '57 utility sedan, fuel injected, in the same color scheme as your model, with silver wheels, blackwalls and hub caps. Any updated photos of your build?
  8. I like that color combo, too. Where are you going with the model?...stock utility sedan? Street racer? Should be interesting.
  9. Looks like some good offerings coming from Revell...I'm particularly looking forward to the '57 Chevy. I do have a question about it, though, for those of you knowledgeable about the industry. The Bel Air has significantly different chrome trim compared to the 150: different side moldings, longer fin trim, moldings above and below the side windows, etc. Does anybody know if this is a new tool or a modification of the Black Widow 150? And if it is a modification, does that mean that the 150 is history? I remember the bad old days when AMT modified the '66 Mustang 2+2 into a funny car, along with the '65 Falcon, and that meant the stock versions were gone forever. Can anyone shed any light on what's happening here?
  10. Hit the local Hobby Lobby with a 40% off coupon, and left with a Revell '57 Chevy Black Widow for $10.32. Score one for me!
  11. I drive past Orval's in-town lot once a week or so, and I can testify that he still has some goodies after his sale. I understand it was a big success, and he sold lots of cars, but there's some pretty nifty stuff left. My personal favorite is a '46 Ford 4-door sedan that somebody stretched into a limo of some sort--you gotta wonder, why a Ford? Anyway, it's pretty cool, and you can just make it out in the second photo, in the background, sitting on a Ford flatbed. And yeah, these would make some great kits...
  12. I've got one of those, built, that looks JUST like yours! I built it probably 20 years ago or so, when the kit first came out. I think mine has a California plate, though. I liked the model so much that I picked up at least ten more of them over the years, all stashed and unbuilt. Yours looks fantastic!
  13. Looking mighty fine...keep 'em coming, OK?
  14. Heck yeah, after seeing what you've done so far, I'd like to see all your '57s. Two questions--is the ride height in the back OOB or have you modified it? And have you encountered any build problems yet? Anyway, lookin' good so far, so don't keep us in the dark! Jim
  15. Some cool stuff, for sure. I also especially like the '55 (I see you slipped in a 409, you dog!),and that color combo really works. Good luck with the employment--things gotta get better soon, don't they? Jim
  16. I've enjoyed this posting a great deal so far, and now I have a question for you two...were there any problems that came up during the build? I haven't built any of the Revell Chevy models yet, but I seem to recall a mention of minor problems in earlier versions. So, I'm interested in your experience in building this kit--any complications, and if so, how did you overcome them? Thanks for sharing your work, and thanks to all for the wealth of information.
  17. Great model of a cool car. I had an '89 HF that I finally wore out at 209,000 miles, and I almost cried when it went down. I have a couple of those kits in the 'ol stash--I'll have to get busy. And if that was a real car pic, then those bricks in the background would be kinda hefty...
