Chevy engine "orange".... last year???
ffreak replied to ZIL 111V's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
As a former GM factory trained tech, I remember it well. Ismael is correct on those dates. Danny -
I'll throw my 2 centh's worth in here. What has finally worked for me and solved my yellowing is first off, I use Tamiya TS26 Pure white for the color. Then I use the Tamiya TS13 clear and polish it out with Tamiya compounds. I have some of this that is approximately 10 years old and still as white as the day I shot it. I had a bad experience with the Future myself. I used it as a clear on a model, it looked fine for a few years but one day about 5 years after it was sprayed I was cleaning all my clear cases and saw that one had cracked severly all over the body. Just looked like spider webs all over the body but it was cracking future. No way to repair that one. Has anyone else had a similar problem ?? Danny

Well I was in my LHS today for our club meeting and picked up the new AMT Challenger. He also had the Revell one but I already have it and wanted to try the AMT one just for something different. Looks ok for a curbside. I kinda like the decals in it better than the Revell one also. I'm happy with it for what it is.

Same here !!! I just had to dig out those kits and look them over while watching all 10 of the videos !!! Man do I ever miss those cars. That's one reason I love the ALMS series so much. Thanks for the link too.

Like Bob has said, the Tamiya TS8 is a very good match for the older cars. I also use the TS49 Tamiya for the newer road going cars. Of course all of them are over pink for primer also.

Speaking for myself, I wouldn't care for a contest with $$ as a prize. I'm not in it for the cash. I simply enjoy the competition itself and if I were to be lucky enough to win a prize, i'm perfectly happy with a plaque, trophy and such. I agree that the cash would just make things ugly.

Badly warped 1/16 MPC Charger
ffreak replied to coolplastic's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I've had good luck heating the body up with a hair dryer or heat gun. You have to over bend it a little sometimes cause it will flex back. Some people have good luck with soaking in hot water and bending it. Hope this helps. -
I got the new Revell Challenger and an amazing Ferrari F1 book courtesy of a wonderful friend. Great for reference when I build my F1 Ferrari kits. The Challenger looks VERY cool. Can't wait to get started on it. Way to go Revell, you done good !!!!

Walter Cronkite passed away.
ffreak replied to dwc43's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Yeah it's like a piece of my childhood is gone. He was always there to report both good and bad. I remember those reports as mentioned as well as the Vietnam reports. And likewise the Huntley-Brinkley Report. Man where does the time go.......... -
I have both the ROG and the Fujimi versions and I pulled them both out and each one is just fine. They have different attachings points to the trees between them.

Well i'm a bit different in that I love any color Ferrari !! I have painted several different Ferrari models in the correct " Fly Yellow " purchased from MCW. I must say it is my favorite yellow so far. In the bright sunshine outside it is just stunning. So that might be an option for you to try. My 2 cenths worth. -
I was saddened to learn today of the passing of a Tom Anderson. He was a wonderful friend and a legendary nascar modeler. He befriended me and taught me many tricks to his builds. I will miss him greatly and I send my condolences to his family.

What's on your playlist?
ffreak replied to FujimiLover's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
When i'm working on models i've got to have my XM on the oldies channels from the 50's and 60's. Groups like Beach Boys, Jay and the Americans, Motown sounds and such. Takes me back to my childhood and puts me in the zone where I can work on and enjoy my models. -
Looking good there David. I built this T/A car in the past and used MCW colors, and the yellow on it was a dayglo flouresent yellow and looks great. For what it's worth in case anyone wanted to go that route. I also had Ron sign the roof very carefully when I met him at Road Atlanta. He was very pleased with the build and handed it to each one of the Vette drivers to look at. That was a cool moment for me. I now have that prize in a nice case and enjoy the memory. Yours is looking great, stay after it. Danny

I agree it is refreshing to see this car in a different color. Great job on this so far, it really is looking cool.

Dave I have the Zo6 painted in the same paint. I love that paint color and also how easily it goes on. Yours is looking sweet. Thanks for sharing.

Lee was an inspiration to so many of us in the CARS club off Chatt. He was always offering up a hint or tip and even some wise directions. His builds were pieces of art and his own clean style of building was known by many around the world. He will be so greatly missed. Danny Edwards President of CARS
