What is your Favorite Hobby Tool?
ffreak replied to XJ6's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
For me i'd have to say my hand and fingers !!! I know that sounds off the wall, but as a 30+ year auto mechanic and model builder, i've learned that my hands are the most important tool in my toolbox !! I've already had 1 surgery to replace a thumb joint and rehab that. Very soon after that the same thumb had to get repaired again after a slip of the xacto knife ( which is why it is not my favorite ) that severed a nerve and lost all feeling in the hand. Rehab again for it and after a couple years the feeling has returned slowly. So, yeah, appreciate those hands and fingers !! -
Can you keep a secret??

The next generation of model builders in progress !!!! Congrats !! -
Off topic but I think you will like it!

That is so awesome Terry !! What a great tribute !! I too love the oldies as my first choice. Takes me back to my younger days when I built models and listened to my transistor radio !! -
Oh my !!! A Ferrari after my own heart !!!!
-
You're right, my bad. I remember those now. I mis-read and thought he said closed cockpit. That's what happens when I try and build models/read computer/chew chewing gum at the same time !!!!!!
-
The blue illum. light is just to light up the cockpit enough so the driver can see some of the functions inside the car. The different lights on the outside are for the class and position of that vehicle. Positions 1,2,3 are displayed, and the color is different for each class..

That view on board the Vette on speed streaming is AWESOME !!!!!!!
-
Thanks Skip. I'm sure Speed will show a highlighted version of the Legends race sometime in the future. I'm hopin Eurosport will stream it also since they have the quali. sessions. I may try and get up to check and see. Then my son and I are doing a 24 hr. build as we have for several years while staying up and watching it all. It's always a great time with friends when we do this.
-
VERY cool !!!! I have a couple of these and haven't got brave enough to build them yet. I just may have to break out and start !!!
-
The #3 Audi was the one which crashed on the last lap and #1 Audi was p2. Is the Legends race going to be streamed live anywhere ? I thought I heard Eurosport mention it.

Thanks for the links Cal. I'm glad all us sports car guys are speaking up. Sometimes we don't get enough respect !!!
-
Bob, it will be on stopstreamtv.com. channel 5 tomorrow. I can't remember what time they said but the time is listed on that site, I just can't decipher when that is !! I watched it on there today and it was decent coverage.

Jon, the race is saturday on Speed Channel at 8:30 eastern time with live streaming on Speed.com during their breaks for Nascar nonsense !!
-
Maybe so, but I for one LOVE it and wish more would get into the sports cars !! I've had enough Nascar shoved at me for a lifetime.

Great job there !! I was at that race, front row seats under the flag stand !! It was quite an experience. Love the King and love Jeff too.

Exactly what I ran into. A week later my old " totalled " Elantra sat at a red light beside me and passed me up !! All shiney and fresh !! I was livid !!! And my bags didn't come out either when she wrecked it from highway speed !!! -

Man you'll love that thing. I have 3 Elantras right now.An '04 as mine and a 05 for the wife and a 05 GT for my son. My wife totalled my 99 just like that Tiburon. Lost control and hit a gaurd rail head on. Didn't even bend the fenders, just the hood and front bumper, but it pushed the core support back and the radiator into the exhaust. They already had the core repaired and the ins. bucked up and totalled it !! Really ticked me off, I loved that car. So I went around the block to the dealer and got the 04 off the showroom floor and took it home !! Great little car, 38 mpg hwy. Only have 38k on it so far. Just be sure and keep the timing belt maintenence up on it !! -
Very cool !!! I gotta grab one of these !!

I started out with shelving just like you have, but quickly discovered the dust problem, and ran out of space quickly too. I got a curio cabinet but it still didn't resolve the dust problem. The only thing that has been the answer for both has been the clear cases. They are stackable and will save lots of space and no way dust can get them. However they can get expensive after a while. I use the Hobby Lobby coupons for 40% and 50% off and get a new one every time i'm in there. Also they have the larger ones for 1/18 scale and planes, which i've found you can safely put 3 1/24 or 1/25 scale cars or trucks into and they are also stackable. Kinda takes the bite out of it that way and is a more efficient display !!

Stand to hold car while airbrushing
ffreak replied to rctori's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I used to use the paint cans and folded over tape method, until I kept having trouble with the bodies falling off and ruining the paint job. Then I made the 2x4 stand with coat hangers. That worked forever and you could always bend the wire to adjust the tension. Then I bought the tamiya stands and the other tool that Bob was showing you. Those are my favorite by far but I occasionally go back to the 2x4 deal. There's always room for ingenuity in this hobby and I love the different methods we all use for a better mousetrap !! -
This reminds me of a time my son and I were on a road trip to a hobby shop in Atlanta. I was following an 18 wheeler, who ran over a VERY large gator tail and threw it up onto my front bumper, hood and roof. Of course this made a lot of noise and scared you know what outa me !! Well in the reaction to this I gritted my teeth, which caused one of my false teeth to break off !!!! Upon gathering my senses back, I took the next exit off the interstate to a quickie mart to examine the damage and purchase some superglue to fix my tooth. Well, in the ensuing haste, I had laid the superglue on the top of my leg after the repair, never to think of it again, that is untill I tried to exit the vehicle upon our arrival !!! My leg was glued to the nice cloth of my brand new vehicle with the black stripe across the hood also !! ARRRGGGHHHH..... a bad day all around !!!

What does "r/t" mean
ffreak replied to hellonwheelz3's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I always thought it was " Buncha Money Wasted " !!!! -
I looked over the whole store here. The stationary, crafts, clearance and all. They only had 1 xacto knife and 1 pair of scissors in the whole store so that tells you how sorry this one is !!!
-
I've already checked in my Walleyworld and they didn't have any, but that don't surprise me here. Will have to check the bigger stores. That looks trick and I gotta try one !!
