    49 Merc

It's not easy building a '49 Merc that looks different ... done! very nice!
  3. Thanks for the comments! I don't like mentioning something without any photos, so here's a mockup of the interior ... with the 8' 2x4's it often carried.Embossing powder carpeting needs painting as does rest of interior.

    Fiat 500

    b-e-a-u-t-i-f-u-l-!
  5. It came out looking absolutely stunning!
  6. Just have a shot of the chip guards I added with .005" sheet. They were simple to make ... drawn on tape ... and look good. Glad you guys brought this up! Work on the interior and the other 944 has been continuing, but not much to show.
  7. definitely hot
  8. I've been watching this all along and silently ... because I just can't come up with words to describe what I see. I'm not a big Pro Mod person, but this just looks perfectly proportioned and the detail is astounding! I feel like I'm watching this come together in a 1:1 shop!
  9. It wouldn't be too hard to make one of these from tubes and a little piece of bar for handle ... but 25, I know that's work! A milk jug might work close to the same way. You would want to mold and cast to get the quantity you want. I've seen some in 1/12 scale for doll houses that are half gallon. Maybe cutting height in half would look ok for a 1/25 gallon.
  10. That's cool. James. Good to have you here.

    From the 60's

Those are pretty cool from way back then. Interesting that you found decent sized wire instead of sewing thread to use!
  12. I love it! The paint looks pretty right ... what did you use? (yes ... I'm from MA)
  13. Good to see this built .. and nice job doing it!
  14. great looking Olds, Steve !!!!
  15. This stuff is weird ... everyone has trouble with it but all the black trim in the photos above .... window and side trim ... is black BMF. It didn't stick as well I know, but it's stayed all these years. What did I do wrong?
  16. It is different from the chrome .. thicker and therefore doesn't mold like chrome, but I find it does work ok. I find chrome rolls up coming off the sheet too ... I try to "bend" the opposite way to keep it straight. It doesn't seem to stick as well as the chrome but I have a 20 year old Subaru with the black bmf and it's fine. I would just try some and see if it's alright.
  17. Welcome MA man ... there's a lot of us here, most out your way
  18. Nicely done!
  19. That would be really tough for me, my foiling hands aren't great anymore and there's not a great edge along the molding. The BMF would give a nice separation as I wanted though. Think I'm going to just do black on the molding as I tried above and try to keep the paint coats down.
  20. It is darker than this photo now that I look ... not a good ad for the paint. It photographs light and probably just the camera lightening it to neutral gray.
  21. That's a very believable finish!
  22. That might be the best way, Charlie, and won't depend on how many main coats I put on that will tend to cover the black too much. I took a shot outside and the true color shows better ... darn cat hairs are magnets! This Tamiya TS-ll went on very smooth out of the can. Hopefully I can get it as well on the real body!
  23. It's almost a year since I've posted anything on this build, or actually DONE anything! It's been ready for paint all that time and I got to thinking about it. I'm using the Tamiya TS-11 Maroon but I thought highlighting the body "moldings" (for lack of a proper name) would give some interest and break up the vast swath of one color. This pencil sketch is how I envisioned it with the moldings just a darker shade of the same color. The actual colors are way off in this. My thought was to use a white primer and then flat black over the moldings. I crudely masked another body to test this on. The black leaked thru the door lines but it didn't matter for this test. I ended up putting down 4 coats but in the end, the shading from the black isn't very noticeable. Maybe only 3 coats will do it. At least the sharp demarcation between the white and black wasn't too noticeable. The color is much darker than the photo shows and is looks very good in person. I'd be interested in any thoughts on this ... necessary, forget it, or methods to do it?
  24. The "leather" sheets I mentioned were in a Jo-Ann Fabric store near here. They are on paper and fairly stiff, but the grain was pretty good for a 1/25 scale use. I have used glove leather to make a bean bag chair for my daughter's Van build. You can see the grain down a bit on this page. I did leather work a long time ago and I'd hate to have to skiv a lot of it!
