  1. The flame job came out great and the interior catches the eye too!
  2. I seeing those doors in some article and if anyone can pull it off it would be you, Peter. I would seem not totally different than the motorized sunroof you did that tucked itself down to slide open ... except having to move 90 degrees! The sketches of the car itself do look good.
  3. I built the George Washington when I was around 12 but don't remember inspecting the bulkheads that close. It sure took a long time to paint and was a great display model.
  4. OK ... I'm adding the rest of the instruction pages here. From the discussion on the '68 kit these will go a long way showing how these two kits are done.
  5. I got the 1970 VW Beetle Cabriolet and posted scans of the instructions on my Photobucket account. The tail lights are molded with the body, unfortunately, and they are the best representations of then I've seen for American 1968 and later tail lights before those big oval ones. I may try a cast of them, but don't hold your breath waiting.
  6. The new Revell '68 Beetle has another topic here and I got the '70 version so here's it's best to start one just on this. I scanned the instructions as a good way to show what's in this kit and posted them in my Photobucket account. The '68 Beetle review is here.
  7. agreed, they all have independent rear suspension. Volkswagon started it all by using the terms Swing Axle and IRS for their suspensions. This drawing shows both on the same axle. This page has some nice explanations.
  8. That has a great stance and flow as it stands/
  9. That's interesting about reversing the intake plenum ... it would have kept the air intake from burying itself in the firewall! It's probably too late to try it now, unfortunately.
  10. I really like the suggestions of some form of black or gunmetal on the wheels. I did a crude Photoshop (I need to get back to refining my PS skills) but it shows the effect good enough. Now to go through my graphite and black paints to get the right ones that won't get lost against the tires. I'm thinking I'll use the same paint on the frame and some other selected parts. I've had tan leather in my head all along for the interior but maybe gray should be considered. Thanks for the suggestions! PhotoBucket Logo of Death :
  11. Those were appreciated comments. I just wanted to set the record straight ... that's the '66 Tamiya I'm converting to a '69. I would have used these kits if I wasn't so far into it. I still may rob a few pieces.
  12. Interesting to hear how you got that to stay in the air ... without 750/25=30 HP, that is.
  13. I had another paint here that was lighter and had a very fine metallic and I liked how well it went on in previous tests, sooooo ... Duplicolor Autumn Maple Metallic in a spray can It looks good but still doesn't have the ZING .. IT. Suggestions are always appreciated. The big question I have for all is what do I paint the wheels? ALCLAD chrome them again? Everyone here has wheel opinions so here's your chance!!
  14. My wife is an RN and Medical Chair at a school. so I'm staying on topic ...
  15. Here's a German page (I translated it) with the parts for the '70 Cabriolet: http://translate.google.com/translate?sl=de&tl=en&prev=_t&hl=en&ie=UTF-8&u=http://www.modellversium.de/kit/artikel.php%3Fid%3D9553 It has just a swing axle but seems to be the padded dash I can use. And here's the '68 hardtop kit from the same site: http://translate.google.com/translate?sl=de&tl=en&prev=_t&hl=en&ie=UTF-8&u=http://www.modellversium.de/kit/artikel.php%3Fid%3D9554 Interesting it has the old non-padded dash but has the '68 engine lid with the hump. This one has no louvers and the '70 has them across the top. We should be able to get quite a few years out of these two kits.
  16. Euro spec doesn't mean British ... the only place they drive on wrong side of the road.
  17. I looked at many VW kits to see if any had IRS and the IMAI had the old swing axle too. It was pretty easy to get a passable simulation on the Tamiya '66 by just adding a diagonal member ... not perfect but it has the look. I never looked at a Vanagon but have many 944 kits and that's not a useable piece.
  18. I haven't seen this or the '70 Convertible but using both might help making a '68 or '69. The '70 bumpers for sure. I have seen the tail light housings on the '70 are molded with the body... that's unfortunate as they look like the best shaped ones in any kit. I wonder if the '70 has IRS ... haven't seen any kit with that. It was standard in '69 but was available on the '68 Auto Stickshift. I've been working on the '69 I had and may just get the '70 to see if it works better for some things.
  19. The mountains (hills?) of Western Mass are white this morning as everyone prepares to come to Grandma's (oh my, that's US!) house for T-Day. I'm feeling good about the All-4 Mini I got last winter as I cruised down the hill for breakfast! Only about 2" but enough this early in the season.
  20. What I liked about growing up in the fifties was everyone knew what a hot rod (no caps!) was and that rarely included fenders (well, cycle excluded)
  21. oh my goodness ...Joe!! Thanks for all those great links!
