  1. Just came on this on some site while looking for drag decals..
  2. The chopped windshield looks much better, IMO. It flows down with the lines of the car.. the original tall one sticks up way too high. Maybe the driver ends up looking over the top of it, but then, who worries about viability on a 50 Merc with a 6" chop? The rear wheel choice looks like they came on the Big Daddy Order Sheet! The whole thong looks SO fine! Got one question I meant to ask before. How did you do the plug wire 90 degree end boots? .. just an insulated section with wire still in for the bend? They do look good. It's in my mind as I have to make some with those 90 degree metal ends which aren't much larger in diameter than the wire, but exploring all possibilities.
  3. Only the great one can say that 3 times quickly .. Correctomundo Kahuna ohana
  4. I finally feel I hit a turning point as the body had caused me headaches. I used a new epoxy in the top chop and it was totally unsuitable for the job. Come to find out, it was intended for wood plane models and never fully hardened. As a result, it didn't take smoothing at the joint well. I ended up scraping it out and using regular putty. Must be 20 primer coats and reworks of the body! Finally today the seams all blended! The Hippi Hemi frame, as recommended to me here, is working out great for this. The 283 motor from the AMT Competition kit with Povin blower is shoved forward about 6 scale inches in this mockup. The firewall still needs some trimming but it will probably stay about where it is. The thought of cutting the cowl back through the air vent is still in my head though ... the motor isn't high but would still need access if left in the Hippie Hemi motor position to keep from extending the drive shaft and for driver controls and position to remain the same. This mock up was mostly to get the body position. It will tilt up at the rear and is following the lower frame rail in these photos which has a slight upward rake as it goes rearward from the engine.. I've seen some with a very exaggerated tilt up but gonna keep it slight as this is one long body behind the wheels! The rear wheel arches worked really well. These are what made me do a competition coupe in the first place! I love the way these are just hacked into the body wherever the wheels "happen" to land and when the arch sticks above the window sills.. all the better! The inner wheel well backing was used more as a stiffener and shaper when forming the arches and I know are probably unrealistic, bu they stiffen the body greatly and I think they are staying. Besides, the guys at the body shop say they may keep the volumes of white smoke away from the driver as that front blower spins those "massive" 8" slicks!!! The upper door lines are going to be re-scribed and welded. I have some Archer weld "decals" intended for armor that I want to try on this. They look like overly think blobs on paper but go on like decals and are just painted over. Everyone's builds are looking great with a fantastic diversity!
  5. I was going to say you need to move out of the salt belt.. but then noticed your Rhode Island location, NOT! ... keep the shop where it is and your customers know where they live. Looks great.. I'm loving your weathering! Us New Englanders have plenty of reference fodder.. ehhe
  6. Glad to see it here. Was an interesting article and fully enjoyed the conversion.
  7. good lord!! that black line is a full separation?? that looks serious! .. good luck with the mending... btw, did you get a source for those bolts from the surgeon??
  8. Every little detail I look at is a beautiful piece of work!
  9. !! I AM getting old!! ... I really WAS in Bondo land and thinking about like a ghosted lace paint job! but, now that you mention it ....... and, I neglected to say, I love the look of this one!
  10. I love the look in putty ... but then, I love bodywork. ..as I look it over, my mind keeps going to picking out a sanding block and running it through those peaks of putty! Now, Vickytorian Lace keeps coming to mind.. on man... need quick update to help me.
  11. Welcome to the forum . good looking build.. nice edges!!
  12. Here's the tool Dave's talking about .. 12" Combination Square Set This is similar to the tool I bought and uses the same principle to locate a center. Steel Center Finder The problem I have with this tool is the slot it has at the base. This makes it difficult to accurately use on rounds with diameters under about 1/8" .. pretty much all the sizes I need it for. It looks like the Harbor Freight tool has a similar slot .. maybe the one Dave uses doesn't ..?? Maybe I just ask too much, but I don't use many solid rounds above 1'8".
  13. I had asked the same question a little while ago and here's a link to what I got ... centering I did end up buying a center finder from Micro Mark but it is unsuitable for the sizes of rounds we use. I'm still looking for a way.
  14. Nice job on the headers. That engine is really different .. and is looking great.
  15. Congratuations .. this is the biggest rush you will ever have when born .. even better than scoring a most-wanted on e-bay for pocket change!!
  16. What a great idea about the fiberglass!! It's all looking fantastic!
  17. Ah, the parts and coffee getter! Looks great! .. I was following the rust stripes on the street and came upon your shop.
  18. Good to see all your free cash goes into the mechanicals, where it belongs! Great job on these,, they look fantastic!
  19. That's one nice photo setup for those reflections if a model .. AND polishing kit! Real
  20. Very nice build! Looks like from a kit..!
  21. Why would anyone post but to receive feedback? ... just remember ALL feedback is good. Sometimes constructive criticism can seem to have a bad taste but remember how difficult it is to get that sincerity in helping another modeler across with just the typed word. I melt when receiving praise, but LEARN when receiving helpful comments.
  22. This is looking yummy. All Mustangs need wider anyway!
  23. That car has great lines and that's a great, clean build! I too like those wheels on it ... not knowing any better, they look made for it.
  24. I love the way the roof flows with the rear deck. Are you SURE you didn't lop the top off those front tires to fit in the fenders????? I like looking at this too ... fantastic little details.
  25. That is looking great! This car is the definition of a Hot Rod T in my mind and deserves to be put into various custom modifications just as the original Model T has.
