  2. I've always wanted to try that, because I never did it as a kid. Buy some cheap reissue of a '50's-era 3-in-1 and use every single custom part on it just because I can. And maybe after that, I could partake in another old modeler's tradition I skipped out on as a kid... blowing it up with firecrackers.
  3. ^Somewhere around this dump I've got an Airfix 1:35 DUKW I'm planning to build as a "duck tour" vehicle. As soon as the MPC Gravel Trailer kit is back out, count on me doing a couple of Michigan Gravel Trains.
  4. Why not? The SSR was such a raging success. Oh, wait...
  5. That sound you hear off in the distance is the gunshot BBC aimed directly into their foot, and the resulting clumsy hobbling....
  6. I made a pair of toolboxes by cutting down an Italeri accessories pack piece- as-is, it's about as wide as the flat bed. I cut the ends off and walled off the back side with flat plastic to make two "sidesaddle" boxes. Driver's side is installed, passenger's side will be shortly. I also added the loading dock bumpers and taillights- like the lift gate, they came from an AMT Louisville box truck.
  7. To augment the crane, I thought it might not hurt to use the Todco lift gate at the other end of the bed...
  8. This is a kitbash of the AMT '65 Lincoln Continental and '62 Thunderbird, with a few other parts box doodads tossed in for good measure. At first, I had planned to stretch the T-Bird chassis under the stock Lincoln body. Then I had to see how the Connie would look with the tonneau from the 'Bird. I thought it looked pretty good... but then I wondered how the Lincoln body would look cut down to fit the T-Bird wheelbase, with the doors lengthened, etc.. The engine is the T-Bird FE with top end pieces to make it look like an MEL- totally inaccurate, but it looks conviincing enough in the engine bay, where the block and timing cover aren't readily seen. I used the T-Bird's interior, with the Lincoln's dash modified to fit. And yes, I used the optional big diameter wheels from the T-Bird kit. Don't like 'em? Too freakin' bad. Paint is Testors Mystic Emerald/White Lightning.
  9. I don't know about the Owner Operator feature, but it reminds me of one Peterbilt used in several print ads... I like Ken's better, though.
  10. I can only call it one thing- cool! I'm not sure what would possess somebody to do stuff like that, but I'm certainly glad he does it, because I like the results.
  11. "I compared the 3D wheels to wire wheels from a Revell kit and there is no comparison." Well, yeah... the Revell kit wheel he compares them to looks like it's supposed to be a "turbine"-type mag wheel, so of course there's no comparison.
  12. Exhaust is on... K&S aluminum tubing, plastic T-strip, and a parts-box crossover pipe made all this possible.
  13. It's bound to happen if they aren't being used as dust collectors in a museum or some rich guy's garage. Honestly, I'd rather see this happen than the "dust collector" option.
  14. This is just a mostly box-stock buildup of the Italeri kit- the exceptions to box-stock being the headache rack from a Revell Peterbilt 359 and a deck plate from the Revell 359 snap kit, and the .040" styrene I used to block off the sleeper walk-through. Paint is Testors Pure Gold. I figured after finishing the two AMT White Western Stars one after the other, it would be a good time to blow the dust off this one and make it a trilogy.
  15. I've been using LA's Totally Awesome- it makes quick work of the plating itself, and usually does a pretty good job of getting rid of the undercoating, though sometimes it does take a while. I take them out periodically and scrub the parts with a nylon-bristle brush. I've noticed that the stuff Round 2 uses is about the worst, in terms of thickness and difficulty to strip.
  16. Maisto did a handful of 1:24 Harleys a few years ago- now all they seem to make are 1:18 scale bikes. You can still find the 1:24 bikes for sale online though.
  17. SuperCab.... Club Cab is what Dodge called their extended cab. As far as availability- what Mike said. I know Greg Van Sickle is planning on doing an extended cab to go along with his crew cab, but I don't know how far along he is in mastering one.
  18. I got one of the Orange Blossoms a few years ago for $40, which I considered a bargain compared to some prices I'd seen. I'm planning on putting a Revell '41 Chevy pickup body on the chassis.
  19. I've wanted to backdate one to an HB600, but I've never been able to find any good pics of one. Anyway, I might get in on this- I've got the Monogram AC Tanker in the unbuilt pile... no idea what I'll do with it as of now. Like many others, I'm also waiting for the DM reissue.
  20. Thanks guys! For once I'm actually pleased with how one of my models turned out- the fact it turned out as well as I hoped was made all the more impressive considering that I had no solid plan in mind when I started on this one, other than stretching the wheelbase. I knew I wanted to try that, but everything else was up in the air.
  21. Thanks, guys! Now I have to dig out that Loadcraft lowboy, hook it up to the custom green one, and plop this on the back.
