I'm pretty sure the last kit issued from Lindberg is the LRW drag set which was molded state side. I believe it was released after Ernie left. I only worked with Ernie and I never really talked with anyone else. J.Lloyd is the parent company, owned by Jody Keener and they're out of Cedar Rapids. They have a molding facility in Kalkaska, Michigan. J Lloyd owns a lot of other brand names besides Hawk and Lindberg but I don't follow any of those. New tools were done in China as in the Dodge Chargers and Monster trucks, everything else is here. The last public comments Jody made about Lindberg was in 2009 saying everythings just fine. I doubt he has any interest in running the day to day operations of it. Olie's Closeouts has been the only place to get any recent kit shipments of that I'm aware of since that last release. Read in to that what you like ... Speculation is that Jody's looking for a buyer for the brand but I don't think anyone that really knows for sure will talk openly about it. I'm just going to wait and see what happens ..... maybe 2013 will bring better news. Steve

Coming soon....Model King 1957 Police car kit!
SteveG replied to Dave Van's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
The most correct radio would probably be the Motorola Twin-V which I think came out in 1956. The Motrac came out in 1958 which could have been retro-fitted to older units still in use. Tom would know for sure. A correct roof flasher like the Federal Becon Ray 17 or it's variations 173, 174 etc would be a nice period piece. The OSHP unit in Tom's photo above has one example. Regardless I'm looking forward to getting the kit especially if it has period police parts and decals not available before. If the recently annouced Mustang notchback kit is any indication I think it will be fine. Steve -
Sierra Gold is a Dark Copper color, the photos probably make it look more red than it really is. Like you said it's very well done ! -Steve

It's not on their website yet ..... hopefully they'll update it soon. -Steve

1/25 Revell '90 Mustang LX 5.0 2'n1 Special Edition
SteveG replied to Casey's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
No, its' an all new 1/25th scale tooling even down to the tires per the folks from Revell that were at the NNL. Correct me if I'm wrong but weren't all the prior Revell Monogram Fox body 'Stangs 1/24th scale ? Regardless, 1/25th was the best way to go with a new tool .... that's my 2 cents worth. -

So What does Revell Have up Their Sleeves?
SteveG replied to tabsscale1's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I'll will have my digital camera there tomorrow and I'll be taking plenty of photos. Although it's not hinted on their Facebook page I'm going to go out on a limb and predict were also getting a Hardtop version of the 70-72 Olds Cutlass. My guess it's the Sports Coupe and not the formal looking Supreme model. No insider info, just an educated guess. -Steve -
That issue is from the RC2 days when the AMT brand was being managed by Cheryl ? something or other. At the time they were cranking out the reissues by the dozen or more. I was working along with their main box art builder (who wants to stay anonymous) and picking up some of the overflow. Typically the other builder would get the to do list with a deadline of "need by yesterday" and BTW, you'll have to supply your own kits. I'd get a call next to compare which kits I had vs what he had on hand and divide up the work load. I always did a fresh "box stock" build but many times the other builder would just grab a finished model out of his collection and send it in to keep up with the demand. I'm sure Cheryl Whats-her-name was well aware of it but didn't care as long as the models were on time. Mind you this is the same person who was resposible for the F&F Camaro disaster. So the next time you see some box art model with a wired engine or not included wheels or decals now you know how it happened. -Steve

So What does Revell Have up Their Sleeves?
SteveG replied to tabsscale1's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Maybe they made the money back, or maybe not ...... Lindberg had to make something like 60 all new parts and remake about a dozen more that were changed for SRT 8 version. If you guys want the full story on the Lindberg Police Charger we should probably start a new thread unless there is an old one we can dig up. I didn't mean to hijack this from the Revell question but the Police Charger was the only one I could remember the sales figures on. The only Revell kit I had any involvement with was of the M-K Limited releases and those are typically 3000 - 5000 kits. I have no idea on current Revell sales figures. Steve -
So What does Revell Have up Their Sleeves?

Tom Daniels claims that that 1/24th Red Baron kit sold 2 Million copies within the first few years of it's release of 1968. It's been reported that the MPC Monkeemobile sold 7 Million copies since it's original release and that the Dukes of Hazzard Charger sold even more. I recall hearing that a typical AMT annual kit would sell over 100,000 copies back then. By comparison, Lindberg produced a total of 9600 Charger Police Car kits which is considered a good sales figure today. -Steve -
The front wheels are from Lindberg's LRW Dodge A100, the rears are from an old MPC Charger 500 kit. I painted the spokes with a Testors Metalizer color and then dull-coated them to match the 1:1 finish. -Steve

So What does Revell Have up Their Sleeves?
SteveG replied to tabsscale1's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
My guess is we'll get the announcements at the Toledo NNL. I think that's the weekend before iHobby. Revell attended last year and rumor has it they'll be back again. What better place is there considering the current situation ? As for why they're not at iHobby it's tough to say. I don't see any of the other Hobbico brands listed either. My guess is there's a dispute between Hobbico and the Expo promoters. I'm sure they're not very happy about the Expo being moved away from their own corporate backyard. I've been to the Cleveland I-X Center dozens of times and I think it's a great location. It's not actually in Cleveland but in Berea, a nearby westside suburb. I'm hoping to attend iHobby one way or another. -Steve
