Revell/Model King '57 Ford police cars
SteveG replied to charlie8575's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
I believe most agencies will allow Logo use with permission but you have to get in writing from each department. I'm just guessing it was probably more time consuming then Revell wanted to spend on getting permissions for one decal sheet. -Steve -
It can tell you that the Rampage never even got near the tooling stage. In 2007 when those kits were planned and announced Lindberg and Chrysler had a very close relationship. Within a year the Auto industry was in crisis mode, by the time the restructuring was over all the old friends at Chrysler were long gone. Once Fiat took over product licensing became a whole new ballgame. Hopefully Round 2 will update or redo the Lindberg website but I'm sorry to say that the Rampage kit will never happen from Round 2 or the New Chrysler. -Steve

Here's a few from I-hobby 07 that got canceled soon after W-mart pulled out of the plastic kit market. There was a sixth box for a new Shelby GT350 but that got pulled down quickly after Revell announced one on the same day. I'm pretty sure the Challenger box got pulled soon after. I thought I got a photo of the Shelby box but I can't find it.

49 Ford Police
SteveG replied to peekay's topic in Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Another very clean build ! ..... FYI, here's what a vintage CHP replica actually looks like from that time period. This was built buy Tom Sheeny. If your ever have a question on a vintage police car he's the guy to ask. See Tom's original post. http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=69149&hl= -

Revell/Model King '57 Ford police cars
SteveG replied to charlie8575's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
My decal sheet doesn't have either the "Harlan" or "Franklin County" lettering on it as shown above. Glad to see the California "E" plates still made it through. Also looks like the "Mayberry Sherriff's" star was altered too. -

The beacon looks like a Federal Beacon Ray JR 15-A. The siren light resembles a Federal 77-L. I'm not sure on the radio yet, maybe a Motorola Twin-V. The so called spotlight looks more like a package shelf style lamp. I don't think the first three have been in a car kit before although some of the early AMT annual Truck kits had something I recall being similar to the Beacon Ray. I really wished some of the other agency specific decals Sean had drawn up made the cut. -Steve -
Nicely done Jr. Stocker and the photos are fine too.

Well done !! .... I enjoyed the build up thread too. Thanks for posting it. -Steve

Been searching for...
SteveG replied to FIREMODELMAN's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
Dave, The only place to start would be the Modelhaus mid-eighties Impala four door. 77-90 full size Chevy's and Pontiac's shared a lot of the same sheet metal, chassis, engines etc... It would take some significant conversion work to the front and rear styling but it could be done. -Steve -
1/25 Revell '90 Mustang LX 5.0 2'n1 Special Edition
SteveG replied to Casey's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
First, thanks for the photo credit ! Always appreciated..... Lets hope that clear red tree is painted that way vs. molded in color .... I just checked one of my more recent Revell kits and the tail lamps were painted. If that's the case just drop the lenses in 91 % rubbing alcohol and the color comes right off. Then just refinish in the Clear color of your choice and you're all set. -
I don't know Brett, I'm no Turbine Car expert. I'll take a leap of faith and say that Frostfire Metallic and Turbine Bronze are one and the same color so the mix formula would also be the same. If there were 50 Cars produced and painted that color then that's the evidence that a paint formula existed for it in '63, so that they could be repaired and repainted if need be. I doubt Frostfire Metallic was in the 63-64 standard paint books but I'm sure the factory code and or paint formula could be had with a phone call. I'd even bet there's a '63 Dealer Service Bulletin for it somewhere. Back then the factory sponsored Drag guys got all kinds of goodies, special engines, aluminum stamped parts, you name it .... not available to your average Joe. It not really a stretch to think they could have got some Turbine Car paint or the formula for if they wanted it. I'm not going to "bet the farm" that's what they used, I'm just saying its a reasonable possibility that they could have used it in '64.
-
The "Frostfire Metallic" AKA Turbine Bonze paint color would have been available starting in '63 and with the factory support Drag teams were getting back then it's very possible they used it. I'm sure any paint shop could have mixed it. I doubt Chrysler would be sending any the 50 street driven Turbine cars on the road across America back to Italy for touch up. Of course that doesn't rule out some custom mix or candy color like others have suggested.

Most likely the original cars used Chrysler Turbine Bronze as the secondary color all things considered. The restore clone used a Plymouth Prowler color that was similar to it. Steve

Lindberg 1/25 Dodge L-700 & IMC Trailers
SteveG replied to jeffb's topic in Truck Kit News & Reviews
I'm pretty sure all those tools were sold to Union. After that I'm not sure, I don't think they're in business anymore. The rest Lindberg has which is now owned by Round 2. Steve -
Round 2 Purchases Lindberg/Hawk
SteveG replied to Art Anderson's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Don't worry, I'm not that easily offended. I haven't worked with Lindberg since Ernie left around three years ago. Thats is the Testors Boyd Chevy Pickup kit in question, before becoming President of Lindberg Ernie was also the President of Testors. Lindberg had all of the Testors plastic kits so now all that tooling also went to Round 2 as part of the deal. One last piece of trivia, Ernie owns the actual Custom Chevy truck on the box. He says he still drives it whenever he gets the chance. -Steve -

These four were announced at iHobby 2009 so I'm sure the tooling is still there. -

This one was found and already reissued a few years ago ....... very simplified but can be a fun build if you enjoy these very early kits. -
Round 2 Purchases Lindberg/Hawk
SteveG replied to Art Anderson's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
As far as I know the molding facility in Michigan is not part of the deal. Also up in the air is what will happen with the remaining few Hawk/Lindberg employees. Lindberg had a number of new projects in the works that were shelved when Ernie Petit retired. There is also some tooling that was never run but as far as I can recall it's all non-automotive. I know Ernie has agreed to meet with Tom Lowe to help with the transition. If nothing else Ernie promised to keep me in the loop. I hope to have more information later next month. Regardless I say this is good news for the hobby. -Steve -
There are two good choices, for frosted lenses I use pearl white paint. For ones that appear clear I use aluminum paint. Both are better than bright white. Here's a sample with the backup lenses painted aluminum. -Steve

History of MPC's Dodge D/W Series Trucks
SteveG replied to Fabrux's topic in Truck Kit News & Reviews
I'm pretty confident that the "Baja Brute" #1-0458 shown below is actually the first MPC annual issue of this series of Dodge Pickup kits. It's listed in the Coulter & Shelton Directory along with the other MPC '72 Truck and Van kits. Note the "1972" on the front bumper graphic. The side panel shows it as a 3n1 kit including a stock 2WD version and the contents appear to be almost indentical to the '73 release. I can't find a copyright date on either the box or instructions and my open kit is missing the decals. On the chrome tree it has " 72 dodge pick up " engraved above the stock wheel covers. For what it's worth I know that this isn't first time MPC brought out a new kit without the year placed on the box. The first issue of the second generation Firebird kit from MPC is only labeled " Firebird Formula 400" which came out around 1970. Anyway I hope this completes the History of the MPC Dodge D/W kits. -Steve -
Nice work Tom !!! I don't think I've seen that style beacon before. Looks like a strobe lamp. Where are the spot lights sourced from ? Steve
