searching for these cars in kit form!
FujimiLover replied to B_rad88's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
If your thinking about molds, forget about wood. There's a special carving foam and I forget exactly what it is, but you've probably seen Jamie and Adam use it a lot when they vacuum form stuff. I would think that foam would be easier to carve out of than wood anyway. The foam would be much better for making molds out of than the wood I'd think. I was thinking of wood as the sculpture itself and there are ways of finishing it so it doesn't look like wood anymore. I mentioned those wooden airplanes that you may have seen, they have been finely smoothed out, filled in, and painted over and you wouldn't have known it was made out of wood. The models I'm talking about are usually made from the Philippines and they can do custom orders. I one time had them carve my beloved 88 CRX SI that I had years ago and they did a fine job at it. So you might want to look into that. I would think their models would be cheaper than the RPM stuff. A custom TVR wooden model might cost you around 100 bucks or so. I'll try and find the companies web site for you and give you the info if possible. Here you go: http://brucecrafts.com/index.php While these guys are from the Philippines, I'm not sure if their the ones who did my car, but you might want to have a look. I'm thinking of asking them to do a 1/18 scale Insight! -

Aren't the materials used in R.P.M's more fragile? You might also want to look into wood-carving. You won't get interiors and chassis detail, but you might at least get the body you want in the scale you want. Yes, it's another skill, but probably easier I would think than trying to do plastic-surgery on existing cars. I think most people use Mahogony wood to carve from. You may have seen these big desk-top airplane models carved from wood. You can get pretty nice detail, but it won't be like plastic or die-cast models. Start carving something simple, and work your way up. You might surprise your self! I've often thought about carving up my self an Insight! If you make it the right scale, "size", you can use wheels from model cars for your woody. -

If you really truly want something that does not yet exist, scratch-building is the only way to go. As for skills go, only practice and time will improve those things. I might also suggest trying one of the newer Ferraris, the Scalgatti or however you spell it? That look's close to one of those TVR's in my opinion. -
Cars sure have come a loooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooong way haven't they? Cool classics for sure!

All I can say is Speed Vision was awesome, Speed Channel sucks. The last time I got to see broadcasted WRC coverage was last year I think it was, when family and I visited London. We stayed at a very nice hotel and their cabal service had a channel that broadcasted it. Well, I was searching through the channels on our Direct TV and it lists it, but when I click on it, I get a blank screen. So, I wonder if its part of a package that we haven't subscribed too. Will find out tomorrow. I sure would love to be able to Tivo it!

Thank's, I will check and see if we have HD Theater. Never even heard of it till this thread so I doubt we've got it so we'll see. I watch the occasional Le Man's and GT races, but that's about it. I don't care much for Speed anymore. They were best when they were "Vision".

Is HD available on DirctTV and what channel is it? What day's does it air? I want to see! I love WRC!

WRC is my number one favorite class of motorsports. I was severely miffed when Speed Vision changed to Speed Channel and dropped WRC off their list. I haven't been able to watch it since then except for YouTube clips. My brother gave me a DVD of one of the seasons races a few years ago and I was hoping to keep up with it but never did. I'm baffled at how these guy's can drive that fast on streets barely as wide as the car itself! And how they pilot their "rocket-ships" through tight forest roads and getting so close to the trees they knock the bug's off! My favorite is the Monte Carlo and most of the Tarmac races when we see them drift around hair-pin turns and switchbacks! These guy's are certainly the most amazing drivers in my book. And yes, they do have big "lug-nuts"!

It seems like the two most popular chase scenes are Ronin and Original Gone in 60 Seconds! WoW! How about J.B.'s "The Man With The Golden Gun" where Roger Moore chases the bad guy and he jumps over the river doing a barrel role! -
Well, the calender on my computer seems to go well beyond the next century so I'll go by that!

Wait a minute, I think I'm confused now. I thought this was for having an "off topic" category which could be anything we wanted. Is this now for a political/religious topic? I'd say no against that as there are other forums for those sort of conversations. But if it is for ANY other off-topic subject, then yes. ..................I went ahead and voted no since I read this as political debates. Please correct me if I'm wrong?
-
I'd like an off-topic thread. I post a lot of off-topic subjects under general cause there is no other place they would fit. So off-topic would certainly work for me. A few of the other forums I belong too have off-topics and it works well for them. Threads of mine such as playlists, movies, name that tune, et'c should be placed under off-topic catagory. General should be strictly for anything in "general" to do with cars.

How about Johnny English with his Austin Martin chasing the Hertz car, then mistaking a real one heading to a funeral where he jumps on the coffin? One of the best scenes was when Johnny's Austin accidently got dropped on the flat-bed and passed a camera. He then fired a tiny rocket and blew up the camera! LOL! Then there's two great James Bond flicks. My first favorite is The Spy Who Loved Me. James and his Russian agent are in that Lotus Esprit which gets chased around the mountain, then dives into the Ocean and turns into a Submarine. Second one is Never Say Never Again with Sean Connery's motorbike chasing Flatima Blush's red Renault R5-Turbo. -

Despite what people may say about the F&F series, I think Tokyo Drift had one of the coolest chase scenes ever as unrealistic as it maybe. It was still awesome watching them drift/race/chase and crash their way through the Tokyo streets. Coolest scene I thought was when they were heading towards the crowd and the crowd split in half allowing the cars to drift by. The beginning of the Cannonball Run scene always put a smile on my face. The two "ladies" in the black Countach being chased by the police on the dessert highways was very awesome and the sound of that Countach gives me goosebumps even today as I watch it for the 9-millionth time! LOL! -
