  1. Myself I prefer the old school look. It would look good as a tri-axle heavy haul day cab! Just my opinion..... Jim
  2. Very nice!! Do you still have the plans for the wrecker from the magazine? Jim
  3. Nice color choice! You must be using lacquers? Jim
  4. Nice! Looks cool with the short wheelbase. Jim
  5. Thanks for posting those pics, they are exactly what I was looking for. Now if I can just find a reefer unit off of the ertl kit.... Jim
  6. Thanks for the info! Truck# 392 is the one I built, except in slightly newer condition! In the early days Monfort used Fruehauf trailers but at some point they switched to Utility, just not sure when. I have never owned an ertl Great Dane reefer but I have an old built up of the dry van. I'll have to see if it has a channeled floor in it that I could possibly alter to fit the Fruehauf. If not, I'll have to fab one myself. Also in all of the pics I found it looks like they all had curbside doors which is something that amt left out. Would the inside of a modern reefer be similar on the front wall to the older ones? If so, could someone post a pic of one? Jim
  7. I just finished this one up for a club build on another forum after about 6 months of "builder's block". Someone on there had posted a detailed article on the history of Monfort's trucks. The first batch ordered had the Cummins six and torsion bar suspensions so I didn't have to do a whole lot of modifications. I started with an original amt torsion bar kit, added some 2 hole budds from AITM and scratched a few things. The only thing left to do is the door decals but I'll wait to do them when I finish the reefer trailer. I'm starting the trailer now, which is the old amt "Watkins" reefer and I could use some help. Does anyone have any pics of the inside of a reefer trailer showing the front wall where the refrigeration unit is mounted? I have also heard that the floor was not wood but channeled metal to help disperse the cold air around the trailer. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Jim
  8. The dash looks awesome Kurt! Hope to be at NNL this year if work doesn't screw it up again. Jim
  9. Here's one I built last year. There is a lot of possibilities with this kit and you can't beat the $25 price.
  10. Excellent work as usual Bill! Gotta love the long wheelbases on those western trucks! Jim
  11. Your detail work is amazing Kurt! Hope to see this one in person sometime soon
  12. Thanks guys. I haven't heard about this show, do you have a date and location for it? I will be at the blizzardcon show in Columbus on the 19th of this month. Anyone else planning on attending? Jim
  13. That's a great looking combo! Ron Adams books have some fantastic subject matter in them. Jim
  14. This is the Revell snap kit pretty much box stock with the exception of adding a visor, swapping out the mud flaps and moving the running lights back on the fender where they belong. Jim The sun finally came out in Ohio so I snapped a couple of "family photos".
  15. Looking real nice!! I always loved that show. Where can I get the DVD set?? Jim
  16. That's a great looking IH! Did you end up using the air brush on it? Once you get it mastered, try using lacquers and you won't believe the difference it makes. Just make sure that the plastic is primed with a lacquer primer or it will come out looking like a raisin. Also, I haven't picked up one of these kits yet, which suspension is in it? Jim
  17. Outstanding craftsmanship Sergey! You see alot of replicas of the duck but not too many of the other trucks in the movie which personally I find more interesting. I wish my eyesight was as good as yours, the detail on the rear axles is amazing! Jim
  18. Thanks. The correct grill is included in the kit as well as everything else you would need. The only thing missing is the old style air cleaner cap and I had a heck of a time rouding one up. The V12 is an option for a couple more bucks but it is worth every penny. Here's the link. http://sourkrautsmodeltrucks.com/?page_id=3&category=2&product_id=207 Jim
  19. Thanks Jim. The flap decals were made by Win (spotlight) and the fifth wheel has a thin coat of black silicone on it. Jim
  20. That is a classy looking truck! Should be here about the same time as the income tax return! Jim
  21. Very nice both inside and out! I have never seen anyone detail the inside of the livestock van, cool idea! Jim
  22. This was supposed to be my last build for 2010 but I missed it by 4 days. This is my first attempt at a resin conversion, a 4090A kit from sourkraut on a 4070B chassis cut down to a 160" wheelbase. The conversion went together better than some box stock builds that I have done and it was built in 1 month which is a record for me. I scratch built a few small items, slopped on my favrite IH paint scheme, and did some minor weathering on the Detroit V12 which is part of the conversion kit. Now, if the 40' van trailers ever get released I plan on building a set of turnpike doubles for it. Jim
  23. Excellent attention to details! That would be hard to tell from a real one in an outdoor setting. Jim
