What does "NNL" stand for?
dencon replied to spudmuffin1959's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
So the very first NNL at Tom's garage evolved into , What? When was the last one or is it still going on today. I thought that the Toledo NNL was the one that evolved from the one at Tom's. Thanks for the info. Matt -
I have seen and taken pics of the "A" car in the dark blue paint two different times. I really do not know if there is much difference between A and B. I do know that there was a point in time that they would run both cars at many events. This car is unrestored and owned by the son of one of the guys. I think it is Cook's son. They never run this car because it has never been updated, so it does not meet the safety requirements. They brought it out to the line at this NHRA Nostalgia race in Phoenix a few months ago. That is how we got the "At The Line" shot. I believe that the "B" car is owned by Johnny Rocca of "Ironhorse" 50 Merc Pro Mod fame. He ran that car in the 80s and 90 so it had been updated for racing. Here are a few of my pics. Hope that helps. Matt

What Vega are you wanting to do? If you are talking about doing a Jenkins' Vega. There were 3 and they were all very different. Matt

70 Coronet "Pitchfork" hood
dencon replied to dencon's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
I do want to state a correction. There has been a misunderstanding, somehow. The Modelhaus and the hood that is produced by Modelhaus got in the middle of this. I believe that Frank was referring to the original MPC hood in his reply when he was stating about the Modelhaus Hood. The Modelhaus hood had NOTHING to do with this hood that I post on here. It (The Modelhaus Hood) was not reformed or reused in the making of the hood I post. Frank used the scoop part of that hood from a cast resin hood of the hood from the MPC Scat City Dodge Funny Car that I took. Then graft it to a hood from the 1993 issue of the AMT 70 Superbee Pro Street kit. All to make a better fitting piece. There was no other cast resin parts use from The Modelhaus or any other resin casting company in the making of the hood that I post on this thread. Frank or I never said or intended to say anything bad about The Modelhaus or Don Holthaus' work in the resin casting industry. I have the most up do respect for Mr Holthaus and would never use his or anyone else's resin parts in the making of any of my product I sell without their permission. Matt @ DSRS -
70 Coronet "Pitchfork" hood
dencon replied to dencon's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
I will say that I was a little out of line in ONE thing I said. And I am sorry for saying the "Brain" thing to Gramps. BUT. As for the respect thing. First off. I am no young guy and no where near new to this hobby. I have been building award winning models for a few decades. I have been casting resin for close to 16 years. I know what I am doing. Also I started the thread. I was not disrespecting anyone. Gramps came on telling me I was wrong right out of the box. Telling me that this item was something that it is not. Just a repop of an old hood, which in fact, as Frank proved, is a new master, redone, whatever. So don't you think that Gramps was the one disrespecting. I have never gone into any of his posts EVER and start "Pulling His Chain" nor anyone else on this board. Why did he feel it appropriate to do this to me? Again I feel that I was out of line in the one thing I said and I am truly sorry for that. BUT I would have never done anything like that to him or anyone else on this board. Come into his or anyone's thread with a negative reply about something I know nothing about. He did IN FACT state this without knowing about the hood that I post in this thread. His post was: "I hate to tell you this, but that isn't a new master. That hood came from the old MPC scat city dodge funny car. I got 1 in my hand that I've had for more yrs than I care to count. But I'm sure a lot of ppl would like to have a copy of it anyway." He stated like he knew for a fact that this hood that I was showing was just a COPY of the hood he has, when in fact it was not. All of that does not matter. What matters is that GRAMPS came onto MY thread and disrespected me. Remember what you mom always use to say to you, "If you do not have anything nice to say. Don't say anything." There was no need for his reply like that on this thread. Here it is my thread and I am the bad guy. Respect goes both ways. What bothers me the most is ME. Yesterday, because of other things. I was in an irritated mood, and I allowed this guy to get under my skin, when in other days I would have just blown him off. Not worth my time. Because I let that happen. I made myself look bad, and that is bad on my part. I am old enough to know better. I know what I have and I let that speak for itself. Matt -
I have an original and a friend of mine has one that he bought new back in the early 70s, and both of ours has that hogged out round rear quarters. I did the same thing as you, years ago to make the master for a resin body I use to sell. I took a cast from the wheel wells of the later MPC USA-1 75 Vega Pro Stock and graft the resin ones on the body I was making. Only thing I did a little different was I lowered my wheel wells down to give a little more space between the quarter windows and the top of the well. It makes the big tire look more tucked up there. I would post a pic but I do not want to hi-jack your thread. I have got to say, you did a fine job and improved the looks of that body by 110%. Nice work. Looking forward to seeing it done. Keep on with it. Matt

70 Coronet "Pitchfork" hood
dencon replied to dencon's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
I sure will. The molds should be ready by this weekend. The hold up right now is me trying to get enough under hood photos so I can get the under hood structure all done. -
70 Coronet "Pitchfork" hood
dencon replied to dencon's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
I hate to tell you. YOU ARE WRONG! This IS a new master. Frank took the scoop from that hood that you are holding in your hand, and graft it to the hood from the newer Pro Street hood so that we would have a good fit with the kits that are avalable. You need to know your facts before you try to show off your BIG BRAIN. -
This is what you need to make a 71 out of the AMT 72 Chevelle kit.

Thanks for posting this idea. I think that this is going to help me out in making some modified asphalt tires. I just have not been able to find the "Just Right" tire for a NASCAR Modified. I think that I can find a bottle cap (Or Two) that would make the perfict one. Thanks for sharing. Your a pretty smart guys. Now THIS is what makes a message board worth the time. Matt

Here is a new master that my friend, Frank Bennett. Mastered for me a few days ago. This is going into the rubber tonight. I also have a 70 Coronet R/T tail light piece and side scoops that will go with this to make a conversion kit. But the hood will be offered on it's own also. Matt

1970 cuda.... Interior, chassis, engine pics added.
dencon replied to m3m's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
Thanks for posting that, J. This is one of my favorite models of yours. Nice work. You make my product look GOOD! Nice work as always. Matt -
Not done yet. It looks alot like a car that ran in Stock Eliminator in the 90s but it is not a replica of that car. It is really just made up. Not many mods, I did tub the stock chassis and add an all resin Dana rear end and suspension. The tires are those two piece slicks that were in all of the Revell Funny Cars of the 70s. I love those slicks for Super Stock type cars. A resin outlaw hood I use to make. The paint is all PPG black base with PPG Urethane Clear. All shot with a automotive paint gun. I will post more, soon. Almost done. Matt

Thanks guys. I had alot of fun with this model. It really was not hard to make this kit look just a little bit better. The color in the pics does not look right. It is a little more orange, but I am sure you guys know what Ford Poppy Red looks like. Matt

Looking for online 1969 Camaro references
dencon replied to Albert Moore's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Here is THE site for First Gen Camaro info: http://www.z28camaro.com/index.html This is Jerry MacNeish's site and Jerry is THE MAN for the first Gen Camaros. He is also very approachable. I have e-mailed him in the past about my friend's 69 SS 396 Camaro. I would suggest to you and any of you guys that want to know EVERYTHING about the First Gen camaros. Buy his books. Worth every penny. You will learn things like. The 69 Camaro hood that everyone calls a "Cowl" hood is incorrect. What it truely is called is a ZL2 Special Ducted Hood or also known as the Super Scoop. It is in fact NOT a cowl Hood. A cowl hood is what the 70 Chevelles had with the flap that opened up by the "Cowl" to take in forward forced air. The Camaro Special Ducted Hood took in air from the rear coming off of the windshield. Just a little bit of Camaro facts that I learned years ago from one of Jerry's great books. His books crack allot of the First Gen Camaro myths. Highly Recommended to Camaro lovers. Matt -
Nice model. I like these old Funnys. What did you do to give this kit a better look? Looks like a nice model. Matt
-
Oh That is so COOOOLL!! I have never seen anyone build this car. I always liked Groetheer's cars, and this is just something different from this era. Nice work. Matt
-
That is SWEET, Albert! I forgot about that car. I should built this car too. Same story. My daughter was so into the PPGs. Her room was all made out with PPG stuff. We use to watch that cartoon together all of the time. So I got these decale to build this model for her and never got around to doing it. Well those days are gone but i still have the decals and a Taurus kit. I only saw a really bad model of this car built, so I never was much up to building it, but this is the first one that looks nice and I do not think that car looked to bad. I never saw the real one. I stopped watching NASCAR at that time and have no idea about that time in NASCAR. Could you show the things you did to "Update" that Taurus chassis. Like I said before. I was not keeping up with NASCAR at that time and have no idea what to do to that model kit to corrected for the year that, that car ran. You did some nice work with that car. Matt

Nice work!!! I am currantly working on the road version of this kit and I love it. That roll cage went together beautifully. I wish I would have gotten this kit instead. I am making mine into a race car and would have loved the decals and slick tires. Other then that they are the same kits. I love how your's turned out. Clean job. Question: Was this kit molded in black? The nice thing about the Road Version is it is in white. Matt
-
I built this one as a quick slammer. I do not like the chassis in these kits, but they were what they were. They work good for a model like this. Had to modify the chassis a little to get the stance I wanted. I was going for the outward look. This model started out as an old MPC Cannonball Run model I built about 18 years ago as a DW Gatoraid car. I wanted to save my new Model King Lagunas for more detailed projects. I striped it and went over the body. I filled in the door seams and nose seam. 86ed the overdone kit front bumper and made my own out of Evergreen strips. The decals came from the model King Laguna. I used PPG Automotive "Ford Poppy Red" base and cleard with PPG Global Automotive Urethane Clear. All shot with a gun. I had fun with this model. Matt

Thanks Charles.I am glad to hear that you liked the items you got. Hope you have fun with them. Matt -
WOW! You NAILED It. Very nice work. Matt

Beautiful model. I can tell that the builder either owns or once owned a real 70-73 Camaro. He BMFed places that just about every build up of this model that I have seen did not have. Very nice work. Matt

I have not been able to work on the master for this body in a few weeks. I am getting ready for my first show as a vendor in San Diego this coming weekend. and also trying to get a few other masters finished. But I got the first coat of primer on the other night and I still see a few flaws but it is looking better. I thought I would give you an up date pic. Now as for the chassis again. I got a hold of a resin copy of the chassis from the old 69 ElCamino AMT annual kit. I do not think I am going to use it as a master for my resin chassis but it helps me with figuring things out. It is really not that good for a master. But I figured how to make a fresh one from the AMT Chevelle kit. I will also relocate the gas tank to where it was on the wagons. I am also working on a new interior tub. I am still shooting for this to come out this month, but I will not cast it until this body is in good shape. It will still just be the body with rear bumper and tail lights out first. I have not had any time to master the flat hood yet. Thanks for all of your help and support. Matt -
Ryan Those wheels are a really great idea. Those would be very cool in giving a pro mod at "Vintage" look. The real racing wheel companies should do some like that. Nice work. Best of Luck Matt
