It's a working horse, ex military. Thanks Donato! Thank you Chris! I had to ask a lot of people about the engine, because even the Santana did not have this model. Likely the conversion was a easy fix. Thank you James! He had a great stories! Thank you Les! That's what started me building the red one. Stumble one of Fred video and fell in love with the man! Than kyou Chuck! Thank you Jeff!

Few days ago I finish this one. I uses the Revell kit, this time of the 2 door Land Rover the "commercial" one. I went with this kit because on the photos the engine appeared to be a 4 cyl turbo diesel. In reality was not. Was a mish mash of parts on a 6 cyl. I even contacted Revell, and they said that was a 4 cyl... I converted to a 4 cyl diesel. Since this series never had a turbo. Other than that everything went smooth. Here with the red one.

Last Saturday I was a the Aoshima Work Shop in LA. They had three kit for sale of the initial D (street racing manga) series and all three in 1/32. These are snap kits, easy and fun to build them. The quality of those Snap kits (Same quality of the 1/12 -1/24) are great! Parts fit perfectly, and there is no flash on the casting. You can build them with basic tools, cutter, tweezer and maybe a q-tips for the decls. The decals also are nice, they are sticker size, soft enough to go around tight spots and strong enough to stay in place. These kits offer a great base to be customized too! Anothe cool thing that is offered in diferent Aoshima kits, is that you can choose the height of the car, you can have with a regular height or a slick racing height. During the Work Shop, the Aoshima team gave me (for free) Takeshi Nakazato's Nissan GT-R. The first thing I notice after opening the box, was the body of the car. Casted in black, and was impressive see how shiny it was. Look a the photos. Here a photo that I did at home, just to see the reflection. Impressive on a kit built out of the box.

Getting close to be done... The engine in this kit is a mistery. I'll post another day some photo about it. Anyway here the rolling chassis. I modified the engine to resemble a 4 cyl diesel. Painted the body and lettering. Still a lot to do but getting close... Here a photo with the other Fred Dibnah Land Rover. -

Thank you! Fred is a legend, and it was nice to build his Land Rover. I had the 1/16 Porsche thinking to build it, but after I gave to a friend. I prefer to stay in the 1/24 scale. It is fun to do this kind of piant job/lettering, not that you want to do it every day, but once in a while... Eyes and neck appreciate! -

Noel, yes I did hand paint teh shadow drop lettering. The yellow part I used a paint brush, the green shadow was made with a trimmed tooth pick. Same also for the tailgate. It toke little over 8 hours to paint the lettering. I used acrylic colors for the lettering, and I gave 5/6 passes on the yellow part, and 3 on the green part. The color need to be thinned quite a bit, so It will not do a bubble effect in a small scale car. The same technique I used when I hand paint Janis Joplin Porsche. -

Chassis converted to a 88in wheel base. Cut it in 6 spot, and shortened little bit. Also assembled the front and rear axle. Next primer and paint. -

Maybe somebody make the TD5, I never look int too much. I mean I'n mot building a Defender... Maybe one day, I offroad raced Defender and Discovery years ago. This kit I'm building, the "commercial 109" has a turbo diesel engine. That should work for a 80's Defender. Not sure if the Series III had a turbo diesel though, for what I remember the 2.25 was non turbo. The did the 2.5 TD... I need to look into that, when I'm a that point. I start to watch some documentary of Fred little over a year ago, by accident. Climbing a chimney witout any safety of some sort. Maybe smoking a cigarette. I got hook up, and start to watch all I can find about him. Very interesting person, with his simplicity he conquer everybody. Every time I spoke about Fred with somebody from UK, they put a big smile. His passion for steam povered machine made who he was. A man of another era that can capture with his personality. Thank you Noel! -

The Revell Land Rover 109 "commercial" has already the hood for the spare tire. The trans kit are cool, but would be nice if they offer or make contemporary engine for it. Like a TD5. I used one of C1 Models transkit (needed the back of the cab and roof) for make Fred Dibnah Land Rover. Pretty cool 3D parts, and the corner clear are very nice! Altough I had to cut and shortened the back of the cab, it was too wide. -

Pretty cool, but for mine I don't need a transkit. Thanks! -
