  1. Considering how "simple" these old brass era engines were, I think this is the best, most realistic engine I've seen in any modeling category. Unbelievable.
  2. After 4.5 years in the General section and over 173,000 views, why is this topic suddenly moved into Community Builds??? ???
  3. Ford has also licensed steel body reproductions for the 40 Ford coupe and 65 & 67 Mustang convertibles. http://www.motorauthority.com/news/1080100_1940-ford-coupe-joins-list-of-ford-licensed-products-video
  4. Curt, this is another one of your spectacular builds, and one to be especially proud of. It's good to see this sort of unique subject matter presented to our forum.
  5. I've been watching the live Mecum auction in Kissimee on Esquire TV at the same time. While it doesn't have the same number of top-level cars as B-J, the prices seem more down-to-earth -- but there are too many unsold cars with price reserves, and the announcers don't seem to be paying a lot of attention to what's on the block.
  6. Got it. I was thinking in the wrong direction.
  7. I asked this on another thread but it's probably more appropriate here... Who's the new Harry avatar?
  8. Excellent all around. What kit is it?
  9. Does it have an engine? Most of the other Aurora brass-era cars are curbside.
  10. The better choices for the Gullwing are in 1/16, either Italeri or Minicraft/Entex. To me, a bit of parts swapping between the two will yield the best results. There was a recent thread on the Italeri 1/16 here, but I can't find it.
  11. This is even worse than the Renwal/Revell/Monogram Mercedes Gullwing. It is wrong and inaccurate in virtually every facet. Stay away. Compare the kit shown below (with aftermarket wheels) with the real car and proceed at your peril. This one makes Barbie cars and Palmer kits look like something by Gerald Wingrove. The Revell box art photo of a 1:1 275 is unlike anything inside the box, including the fact that there are no wire wheels -- only poorly-rendered Campagnolo alloy wheels. But this builder slapped big-bucks wire wheels on it, did a nice paint job, and sold it on eBay for $200. The interior is klunky. At the left, you'll see a giant gap that that looks into the engine compartment. The wheel radiuses are totally wrong, and the Kamm-style tail barely exists. The windshield line and side windows are completely botched, and there's a strange square thing on the hood. The nose droops The grille is too low and the mesh is off-center
  12. While the body shape isn't totally awful (but the molding is loaded with sink marks, seams, flash, etc), the overall kit is horrible and very toylike, with tons of inaccuracies. It was originally a Renwal kit, and it's hard to believe it was reissued under the Revell and monogram labels. This builder did it as good as it gets -- you can read his comments: http://cs.scaleautomag.com/sca/modeling_subjects/f/31/t/111390.aspx
  13. You can find a selection of filters like this at amazon.com and other places http://solutions.3m.com/wps/portal/3M/en_US/3MScreens_NA/Protectors/Shop_Products/Product_Catalog/~/3M-EF200XLB-Executive-Anti-glare-Computer-Filter?N=4294940169+5019800&Nr=AND(hrcy_id%3ACL53GPHTTSgs_51RQB77J65_ZSHZGSXVCT_GPD0K8BC31gv)&rt=d
  14. Truly spectacular all around. Amazing detail and clean finish. Looks 100% real -- among your best, which is saying a lot.
  15. Just great. One of the best versions I've seen of this one, very clean. Bravo.
  16. The continuing story of awesome. While the original race car might have a slightly different plaid interior, the pattern you used in the truck would still be authentic for the seats at the same scale.
  17. What material or tool is best for wiping off the wash where you don't want it? This photo of the 1/1 car shows the effect I need to achieve for the kit's finely molded radiator mesh. I'll probably also hit the mesh with a dulling spray. On prewar Mercedes, the mesh was part of the radiator assembly and unlike later postwar cars, not part of the chrome radiator shell. Or I may start with painting the radiator mesh with an aluminum color, then applying wash.
  18. The whole model may be teeny-tiny to you, but is it overall any smaller than the subassemblies like engines, etc., that you you put into 1/16 or 1/12 models?
  19. Very slick. I especially like it with the "spats" on.
  20. Excellent, and I, too, would like to know about the wheels. What brand and color of paint did you use?
