This forum is working a bit screwy. See next post.
-
What "other " site are you talking about? If it's Scale Auto, they have PLENTY on the home page borders, plus pop-up ads that have to be closed before you can see the page. Look quickly, before this gets deleted.
-
Suddenly, at 6:50 pm EDT, the ads have disappeared. Huh?
-
I'll repeat myself. 1. Discussing the workings of the host model car forum is not related to model cars? 2. Why are the admin pinned subjects about the forum still in General and not in Off Topic, while every comment on those subjects is moved to Off Topic? The requests for the Off Topic forum had to do with moving subjects from General where members could share stuff like "Here's my dog," "I don't feel good today," "My little girl's graduation pictures," etc. A place to commune personally on literally "Off Topic" subjects.
-
My big question is... if the admin people pin all their topics about the forum in General, why do member questions and observations about the forum get booted into Off Topic? Maybe the "How to Use" this board section should be expanded to "Forum Rules and Discussions."
-
[Deleted because this is really confusing having stuff moved around]
-
This subject has been moved to Off Topic, evidently because it has nothing to do with model cars. Go figure.

I think we still get a free ride, and it will stay that way thanks to the ads. Most TV shows work that way unless you're paying for premium cable channels. How much of an inconvenience is this, really? Maybe a couple of extra seconds for loading time.
-
I noticed that I'm just now getting banner ads between the first post and the next post on the list on any particular forum, and within a thread. Not a problem to me, and I hope it helps to support the site.

The 50 greatest TV&movie cars?

Well, maybe for the rankings, but I think here are a lot of well-chosen cars. -
The 50 greatest TV&movie cars?

The original Futura (with a red repaint) was pretty much the star of "It Started With a Kiss" with Glenn Ford. My nominees would include Emma Peel's Lotus Elan and John Steed's Bentley in "The Avengers" series, plus Patrick MacGoohan's Lotus 7 in "The Prisoner." But what about the "Beverly Hillbillies" car? -
Also true, and often unfortunate. You can only make a comment that might help them do better next time. There is a current thread with a very proud modeler who woefully colored outside the lines on the black for the car's grille, and an astute member mentioned that the grille could be better, and brush-painted trim was pretty sketchy. Several attaboys and the modeler didn't get it, and I didn't feel like explaining more. I don't like telling someone their build has problems, but perhaps I should have. I chose to stay quiet. If it's a work in progress, they have a chance to improve it.
-
Yes, that's the way to go. That's help, not after-the-fact criticism.
-
Well said, Rob. Most of the time, I only comment on builds that I think are truly well done, identifying what I particularly like, and if I say something about how to improve a thing, I try to phrase it as constructively as possible. I would add that the biggest faults I see on builds shown on this forum are orange peel on paint, over-scale metal flake in metallic paint jobs, and wrinkly BMF. I don't comment where it doesn't really help at the end, and I (usually) don't comment on subject matter that is not of interest to me, though I will give attaboys to people who build such subjects if ti's really a nice build. That's all done in the spirit of your original post as I understand it, which is to encourage modelers to get the basics down and learn from criticism.

The rear window treatment looks like they might have recycled components from the 1958 Continental Mk III.

Careful, he may still be around. He and other bigwigs of his time were into spiritualism and believed in reincarnation.

No, mate, I don't think you'll find that. If you look at the chart, as I stated in my post, you'll find that the stats are annual fatalities per country per 100,000 vehicles. Do you have different statistics? (By the way, Alice is really hot and Wonderland is cool. What have you got in the land of Oz? Judging by your rudeness, you have flying monkeys coming from somewhere under your rainbow,) -
Nice and clean, excellent detail work. Interestingly, I bought a can of TS-14 a couple of weeks ago. There are so many different blacks, I thought this used to be labeled Gloss Black, but it only says "Black." I wasn't sure what I was getting, maybe a base coat or something. Now I know.

One Kit, One Island!

A big box of Legos. -
Whether it's real or a model, there's a door in the middle behind the back seat.
-
Real deal, based on the tire tread. But I've seen large scale models every bit as detailed.

In this list, you will get an idea of traffic deaths by country. The rates among African countries are nothing less than astonishing, but there are many others that are far higher than the US, and Australia is one of the lowest. Fatalities per 100,000 motor vehicles: World average: 93.3 Australia: 8 (unless you count kangaroo and emu roadkill) USA: 15 Russia: 55.4 And the winner is: Togo: 14,050 Followed by: Ethiopia: 11,667 Central African Republic: 8,050 Moral: Don't take a cab or bus in Africa. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_traffic-related_death_rate -
Well, one thing I've seen over time is that flash pictures posted on the forum tend to exaggerate metal flake a bit, and they look better in person.

I certainly know that motorized kits make sacrifices in detail. But does anyone have personal knowledge of the Otaki 1/16 Lamborghini Miura (motorized)? http://www.ebay.com/itm/RARE-VINTAGE-OTAKI-1-16-ScaleLAMBORGHINI-MIURA-P400-BERTONE-MOTORIZED-MODEL-KIT-/271245616315?pt=Model_Kit_US&hash=item3f277fa4bb
