Master 1:12 Scratchbuilder
sjordan2 replied to sjordan2's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
For an equally - if not more - amazing builder check out Louis Chenot's 1:6 1932 Duesenberg at this link: http://www.craftsman....com/Chenot.htm And in this video, he shows that the engine actually works. [media=] -
A subject on the Avanti started in the 1:1 reference topic, where I included this, but I thought it was worth putting in the Big Boyz section. An amazing Swiss modeler named Roger Zimmerman created the 1:12 Avanti and Toronado shown below (he worked on the Avanti over a span of 45 years), and is currently scratchbuilding a 1956 Continental Mark II. Details and several pictures at the link. http://www.craftsman.../Zimmermann.htm

Kit Review - Super Kewl Kit to Beat the Band!
sjordan2 replied to Danno's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Yes, there's a real band (named after Marty McFly of "Back to the Future") but unfortunately there isn't a kit. -
Cool - Captain Nemo's car, updated and meaner.

Lets See Your Replicas of Yours/Your Families Cars
sjordan2 replied to Platerpants's topic in Model Cars
You must have an interesting family if this is a family car. Is it perhaps the Khaddaffi family? -
You can also open your image in a new window on your computer, make the window smaller than your screen, select Scale to Fit and take a screen shot of it (if you know how to crop into the image to make the screen shot, so much the better). Then post it here so we can see what you're dealing with. The thing is, if you're trying to cover a whole bunch of subject matter in one shot, it's going to end up very small and you're better off taking several small-size shots.

Beautiful work (but don't let Harry see the floating alternator).

I have a 1/25 1935 Mercedes kit. It has clean, nicely molded and finely detailed wire wheels, but they're chrome-plated with the typical kit chrome look. The original 1:1 car had highly polished wire wheels, but not true chrome. I want to give them a more realistic finish, and have to rely on spray cans (so Alclad is out of the picture). 1. Would a clear reduce the "chrominess?" 2. Or should I strip the chrome and repaint with SpazStix?

Do people even think anymore
sjordan2 replied to mnwildpunk's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I like this Charger Batmobile better. It has a certain je ne sais quoi. Not to mention flower power. -
Several years ago, while I was the ad agency Creative Director for Klosterman Bread in Cincinnati, I was told a true story by the son of the founder, which I turned into a radio commercial. In the 1930s, the founder only had one bread delivery truck. So he painted one side a certain color and the other side a different color. He thought that people would see a certain color going one direction down the street, and a different one coming back, and think he was successful enough to have two trucks.

Any New Information on Revell 40 Ford?
sjordan2 replied to CEKPETHO BCE's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Does this count? (I wonder why they painted over the wood.) -
A stupid question please.

I thought there was a cumulative limit to the amount of images that could be attached in posts from your hard drive. -
How far should I go?
sjordan2 replied to mnwildpunk's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Looks great and I'm sure it gives her a sense of pride that will inspire her to keep going. Over the years, I found that getting into different modeling subjects kept up my interest in the hobby and helped me get better with different techniques, which made me better at my first love, model cars. I built stagecoaches, Roman chariots, airplanes, tanks, even a fuzzy squirrel kit, etc., and the whole deal was extremely rewarding. -
Ebay morality question
sjordan2 replied to Fat Brian's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Were you charged again for the price of the second kit? Or the shipping of the second kit? If the seller didn't respond, you have no obligation to do anything further. You could send a report via the eBay/Paypal response system, which shows good faith and should make you sleep easy. If the seller decides he wants it back, ask him to give you a credit on your initial purchase for the return shipping amount. Verification of that will come to your email. Otherwise, don't worry. You've done the best you can and tried to make the seller aware of the mistake. -
Building With Gloves

Does anyone make a pair of gloves with ten thumbs? -
Whew.

Welcome. I hope this site works great for you. I see you're a Mopar guy (somewhat obvious, I guess), and I have just one request- PLEASE don't start another General Lee thread!

Any New Information on Revell 40 Ford?
sjordan2 replied to CEKPETHO BCE's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Interesting. The Good Guys box art shows an opening vent window and the new shot doesn't. One thing... the 1940 Ford coupe I built when I was a kid had a grille like this one. Why the difference and when was it changed? -
How far should I go?
sjordan2 replied to mnwildpunk's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I will only add that my introduction to modeling and my love for it began at about age 7 by building Highway Pioneers kits with my Dad alongside me. He wasn't a modeler, but he helped me figure things out and prevented frustration with his presence and adult perspective. He wasn't always there looking over my shoulder, and he only performed the tasks I asked for help with, and that worked for me. I remember those days and it still gives me a very nice feeling of a great time with my Father. -
How did I get signed up for this?
sjordan2 replied to Austin T's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I had nitrous plus a drip when they removed all 4 wisdom teeth. After I woke up, I never felt better in my life, and I wished I had more wisdom teeth to remove. Minor residual aches for a short time. -
Add a dash of Tabasco and you're there.

To continue, I find that this site offers plenty of opportunity for discussion, debate and bonding, which is totally missing elsewhere. I find the other site completely insipid and uninteresting. Insipid: 1. Lacking flavor or zest; not tasty. 2. Lacking qualities that excite, stimulate, or interest; dull.
