What's the deal with Johan
sjordan2 replied to Kaleb's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
One observation: Johan's original Gold Cup version of the 1935 Mercedes 500K coupe with the burgundy body is far superior in crisp detail, lack of flash and mold seams, compared to the later (non-Gold Cup) reissue with the red body, which had plenty of flash, incomplete chrome coverage and short shots. -
Digital camera download question
sjordan2 replied to crazyjim's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I have a very simple Samsung camera. No installation required on my iMac. I just use the USB cable to plug it into the computer. When the camera icon appears on my desktop, I double click and a folder appears. I open the folder, select the image and drag it to my desktop to be copied. Then I put it wherever I want to. That's it. -
24 Hour Le Mans 16/17 June
sjordan2 replied to martinfan5's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Sunday afternoon - my daughter is driving me to lunch and a movie for Father's Day, and asks "Dad, why is the Toyota dealer's flag at half-staff?" She knows nothing about racing, so I ventured my opinion. -
Searching for boxes to put projects in

Or you could get flat corrugated cardboard at a storage or moving company, plus packing tape, and make your own boxes. -
Anyone try this chrome paint?
sjordan2 replied to my66s55's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I've seen lots of test shots of the other chromes mentioned here, but never Duplicolor chrome. Do you have some examples? -
FYI, the box art on neither kit is a photo. The IMEX kit just has a more detailed illustration - Harry P. does illustrations of that quality and I'm sure he can vouch for this. PS: ARII made two other versions of the kit you show, one with an up top, and a hardtop coupe such as shown above. (As Edsel-Dan pointed out, the Heller kit has both the up top and down top, while you have to buy the Arii version in the specific up top issue).

The Invisible Man
sjordan2 replied to Barbo's topic in WIP: All The Rest: Motorcycles, Aviation, Military, Sci-Fi, Figures
This process sounds like something from the "Saw" movies instead of the Invisible Man. -
Chrome trim or painted trim?
sjordan2 replied to gbdolfans's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Aside from body chrome, I think a lot of builds could be improved by using Alcad or Spazstix for parts that are supposed to look like polished aluminum, etc., to take the "kit chrome" curse away from engine parts like valve covers, and many types of wheels. -
24 Hour Le Mans 16/17 June

Just heard on the broadcast that beginning in 2014 all cars will be required to be closed cockpit, along with many other rules changes. That certainly will create a different look for the DeltaWing (assuming something like it is still around in 2 years). -
In the early 50s, one of the founders of Velorex was killed while test driving one.

Some great responses here. But you might get a lot more responses if you had a more descriptive thread title like "AMT Prestige Series questions," instead of a blind one like this where we don't know what you're talking about. Just sayin'.

I think one of the best observations I've seen on this forum is to treat each separate component as a kit of its own. Make something special out of each one. After all, different work groups at the manufacturing plant do it that way. Do the engine to any level of detail. Do the chassis. Do the interior. Make the dashboard a work of art. Take extra care with the wheels And, of course the body. That's a few models right there. Don't let the big picture overwhelm you, take it one submodel at a time. We have any number of builders on this forum who look at it that way.

Personally, I appreciate seeing avatars because they make it easier and faster to scan through a thread to see who's posting without having to stop and read a screen name. "Yeah, it's that guy," and I see what he's saying. On another note, I also had a signature image for a long time that recently seemed to me to take up too much space in a thread, so I dumped it today.

To the moon, Harry. I sent you the correct answer on Monday and now you've dissed me and left me off. It's so depressing to miss my rightful place in the sun.

tamiya brilliant blue spray lacquer
sjordan2 replied to lvnlwd's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Are you wanting to replicate that particular monster truck or just the color for something else? Looks like the truck has different shades of blue, and the heavy metalflake is just along the side. -

Yes, but I had to paraphrase it for it to make sense in the post, and I thought the humor would be obvious. Here's what Ed Sullivan would have called "something for the youngsters." [media=]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y1UYclfndBY&feature=related -

The magazine would never be late if they just left the issue number on the cover and took off the date. -
Alberto de Oliveira, a Portuguese modeler who passed away last year at 85, specialized in large-scale Mercedes (typically 1/8) and he was building until the end. Everything was scratch-built using wooden bucks and metal, some of it simply upsized from existing kits, and he had a friend with Mercedes who supplied him with vast amounts of reference. He also was a collector of zillions of Mercedes diecasts. The web pages are in Portuguese, but you can see his accomplishments in the images. http://alberto-de-ol...a.blogspot.com/ Construction process: http://alberto-de-ol...i.blogspot.com/ Galleries: http://alberto-de-ol...s.blogspot.com/

Your opinion wanted!
sjordan2 replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
That's why I was hoping there was a way of looking at historical hits on certain categories to see what's popular and what isn't. There's no way on earth I would go to a drag racing forum, but if that's hugely popular, perhaps it should be its own category. Like NASCAR, perhaps its own subforum under Competition. -
You may get more results, and more informed ones, if you use a more descriptive thread title like"Tamiya gray primer problem - fisheyes, etc."

I like the new diecast section, but I would hope that metal kit builders would be given the leeway to post in On the Workbench without being moved to this forum. I share the point of view that a build is a build, regardless of the material in the kit.
