  1. To me, this is key to solving a tremendous amount of confusion. If you see a title you're not interested in, say a pro street or F1 build, just skip it. But I would be in favor of a Competition forum, with subtopics as in the revamped Trucks forum (depending on the history of hits, NASCAR might need its own topic and the others - F1, Indy, dirt track, Le Mans, etc - all lumped together). And however it's segregated, having both On the Workbench and Under Glass topics is the biggest advantage this forum has over SAM, where you never know on what page (and there can be several) you'll find the finished build. It doesn't matter to me if there's one basic Under Glass section or if different forums have their own. SLIGHTLY OFF TOPIC: I like the new diecast section, but I would hope that metal kit builders would be given the leeway to post in On the Workbench without being moved to that forum.
  2. Shane has a point, but it's hard to find all of what you need. This is from a Youtube search for Kinderen voor Kinderen english subtitles: [media=]
  3. But you can't do anything without the name of the song.
  4. What's the name of the song? There are many translation sites available online. If you can find the lyrics online, which I'm sure you can (search song name + lyrics), copy them and paste them in a free online translator like worldlingo.com and go from Dutch to English. http://www.worldling...translator.html However, most online translation services are awful, but they may come close enough for you to get the idea.
  5. What are you going to use the discs for? Without knowing the purpose, I would toss in the idea of using self-adhesive, die-cut paper dots that are available in a multitude of sizes, on sheets and in rolls like Scotch tape.
  6. Great job on the MG. What did you use for the side trim?
  7. Strategic Rule #1: Don't drink and bid
  8. Assuming you are hungry enough to want to win the item. The maximum bid should be the maximum you are willing to pay.
  9. A maximum bid offering on eBay can do it faster than an outside sniper (I think). It's automatic on eBay. On another note, I once was bidding on an original parts catalog for a Mercedes 300 SL Gullwing. The seller was not reaching his reserve price. I contacted him via eBay e-mail and told him that if he relisted his offering at the price I wanted, as Buy It Now, I would immediately buy it. He did so, and I got it at the price I wanted, all within eBay rules.
  10. I spend time on lots of other modeling sites. And I used to think that John T. was one of the most amazing builders in the hobby. This is John to the nth degree, and makes my earlier opinions seem weak.
  11. Most of the kits I've bought on eBay are rare and generally out of production, and can get quite expensive. Upside: fewer bidders; Downside: the ones who want these rare kits are willing to pay some bucks. Very few of these listings have a Buy It Now option. Anyway, I bookmark the listing and note shipping costs, the end time and date. I check over the following days to see if the same kit comes up elsewhere (sometimes, other sellers will list a kit like one they see in play) then I check toward the end of bidding and enter my maximum bid. But I don't pull the trigger on the bid until time starts running out. Then I usually let the bid go on automatic (unless I want it enough to get into a bidding war).
  12. Just checking, though I know Harry doesn't mess with these shots, I found the same picture online, exactly as Harry presented it. It's a 1955 Bentley R Continental, which has a number of diecasts, but I would dearly love to have an assembly kit of it, 1/24 or larger.
  13. At least now it says NASCAR instead of NASCARS
  14. I think that historically the problem is that when posts are moved into a more appropriate category, there is seldom any notification about why it was moved or where it went, though it happens on occasion. But with the new format, there shouldn't be much confusion. Just common sense.
  15. So what's to stop you from putting it where you think it makes sense?
  16. I don't know if they're allowed, but if you speak more forcefully and make yourself heard more aloud, who knows? (Sorry, couldn't resist.)
  17. It would be interesting to know if it's based on any particular boat. There have been many mini speedboats that look like that, some with no windshield or the windshield painted black to look like it has one. Here's a no-name version where you buy the hull. (So, if it comes from a kit with a custom Chevy Luv, does that make it the Luv Boat?)
  18. I got caught up in some enthusiastic posts here and bought the Monogram Lincoln Futura and Minicraft Rolls Silver Cloud. What a waste.
  19. Check A.C. Moore or Hobby Lobby for mesh that is used for dioramas, sculptures, etc. That's where I got mine.
  20. I've already mentioned that there are lots of areas, inside and outside, that could benefit from some scoring and wash. To me, one of the most difficult areas is creating realistic louvers, which are nearly impossible to open well in smaller scales. It's hard enough in 1/16, where I spend most of my time.
  21. Okay, I never said that a manufacturer should present everything that could possibly be known about a car or kit. I just said they could help. As for all the people who don't want help or think they can find everything they need immediately on the Web, good luck. It ain't that easy, and this thread is not intended for you. Over and out.
  22. Exactly. As I proposed, it could either be a CD included with the kit or posted online, or both. The advantage of online is the ability to update at any time (though most manufacturers wouldn't do so and would want to be one and done. That's understandable.)
