I see that the images on Simón's amazing build of the Monogram Aston Martin DB4 have all gone away. The remaining windows have the notice, "You have exceeded bandwidth with too many views." How does the number of views affect your Photobucket account? I thought it just had to do with how many images you store on the site. The same thing happened to his thread on this subject at the scaleautomag site. Example: http://www.modelcars...opic=26809&st=0

Hmm, OK, tell me why?
sjordan2 replied to prostockmania's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Stuff like that triggers my BS detector, which makes me suspect some "insider" bid boosting. On the other hand, somewhere along the way, someone had set a very high maximum bid and one of the bidders went crazy with nearly a dozen consecutive bids (bidder n***s). He didn't get it. -
Holy guacamole! That is one expensive kit!

A Pair of Ferraris 50 years apart (458 and 250SWB)
sjordan2 replied to Matt Bacon's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Great grille work. I can tell this is going to be an outstanding build (I guess it has to be considering how rare and expensive the kit is!) -
Gorgeous work, very faithful to the 1:1. What scale is it?

More amazing large-scale models
sjordan2 posted a topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Speaking of fabulous large-scale builds, check these out. The Citroen Traction Avant is a 1/8 Heller plastic kit that is being built with incredible detail and realism (unbelievable weathering techniques on a daily driver). http://www.scalemotorcars.com/forum/large-scale-cars/30170-citroen-15-six-traction-avant-1952-heller-1-8-a.html The following two display jaw-dropping, 100% scratch building. http://www.scalemotorcars.com/forum/large-scale-cars/24503-article-scratch-built-stock-ford-model-t-1-8-th-scale.html http://www.scalemotorcars.com/forum/large-scale-cars/18730-article-motm-29-winner-tie-1-8-talbot-lago-t26c.html And I think this 100% scratch-built Camaro has shown up here before... http://www.scalemotorcars.com/forum/large-scale-cars/6805-article-amazing-1-8-scale-1969-camaro-build.html -
I don't know if this has come up before, but this company makes some of the most awesome models I've ever seen, perfect in every detail - old racing Alfas, Mercedes, Blower Bentleys, Bugattis. Incredible. Even better than Gerald Wingrove. What's really weird is that I can't copy or bookmark the url below. http://www.drmischko.com

Would you use a promo to start a project?
sjordan2 replied to Wheels's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I'm not sure I understand this thread. Why would someone avoid a promo? After 3 pages, I haven't seen anyone say "no." But it would be good to hear from someone who felt that way and get their reasoning, other than to maintain some negligible collector value for certain specific cars. Otherwise, I don't see the point of the question, which implies some thinking about why some people wouldn't work on a promo. Maybe the question should be "WHICH promos wouldn't you mess with?" -
Outstanding work. The various finishes are really expertly done with interesting contrasts, and the panel lines, especially around the doors, are very convincing. Did you score them?

Bummer. Since you posted a video, I thought we'd see the tassels on the headlights spin around.

Aston Martin Db4-1/25 Revell Monogram Update-May 14, 2012
sjordan2 replied to simonr's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Do these come assembled? I need good wire wheels for my 1/25 Maserati GT (a sister kit to Simon's Aston) but the MFH wires were too large - supposedly "dual scale" 1/24-1/25, but really made for a 1/24 Ferrari GTO, with deep dish rear wheels. -
I'd still like to see someone do the Lotus from "The Prisoner" TV series. The main external difference from the box art are a yellow nose piece and the slots on the wheels.

KIT REVIEW SUGGESTION
sjordan2 replied to sjordan2's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
No, the forum doesn't really shorten the post overall, it just hides part of it with dots .... The "URL shortener" I referred to completely changes the long URL to a new shortened code as you'll see in my description above. Gregg mentioned that it can be very insecure, which I didn't know about, so I'd stay away from it. -
KIT REVIEW SUGGESTION
sjordan2 replied to sjordan2's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Well, I have made instructions available to modelers who were interested in certain kits, and in 2 out of 3 cases that I know of, it did sway their purchase decisions. The only one who decided not to buy looked at the instructions for Revell's reissue of the Mercedes 190SL coupe and determined that it would take too much work to produce a build he would be satisfied with, since it's such a simplified kit. But that's not the point. If you're going to spend the bucks, why not have as much information as possible up front, before you open the box? What is there to lose? Just an example of kit surprises I could have known about if I'd seen the instructions: I am mostly interested in 1/16 classics. If I'd had instructions to study, I would have seen that, although they have separately molded doors, they have no hinges and the instructions say to glue them in place -- Mercedes Maharajah roadster, SS Sonder Kabriolet, Rolls PII Continental, Jaguar SS 100. And the 1/24 Minicraft Rolls Silver Cloud 1 has no suspension parts or more than a blob of an engine. For reviews, I think both the sprue photos and instructions are important. -
KIT REVIEW SUGGESTION
sjordan2 replied to sjordan2's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Didn't see anything there about instructions, Gregg, which is the subject of this thread. And I have no interest in why the prior thread was deleted. Good to know that there could be problems with bit.ly, though - I never heard about that. I suggested that only for the magazine for easy reference and not for the site. Yes, I know you're doing the best you can, and I and the rest of us appreciate it. -
KIT REVIEW SUGGESTION
sjordan2 replied to sjordan2's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Yup. And (though I don't know how quickly they publish them) Revell posts their kit instructions online. All it takes is for the reviewer to post a link. As for copyright, many of the new kits proposed for review here are provided by the manufacturers, and the instructions should be part of the package. In other cases, the worst someone can do is tell you not to publish them and then you take it down. Considering the longevity of drastic plastic, I doubt there's any concern here. And you'll be doing a favor for a multitude of other modelers who aren't part of this forum. http://public.fotki....ruction_sheets/ Either the reviewer or MCM just need to scan the instructions and put them somewhere that's accessible, with a link. -
Okay, the following thoughts went down in flames along with another thread that was deleted for one reason or another, but I'm sure it wasn't because of this part of the content. Wouldn't new kit reviews, both on this forum and in the magazine, benefit from publishing the instructions? You can see what the parts are, how they fit together, and in what sequence. Instructions could be posted either here or at a site like drasticplastic, with a link. In the magazine, very long web addresses can be shortened to something easy to deal with, using a free online URL shortener like bit.ly For example, look at the address of this page in your browser, above. Here's what it looks like, in its entirety, when it's shortened at bit.ly http://bit.ly/MdSFrk

Beautiful job, Jay, and I agree that's expert BMF work. PS: I think the other forum members would agree that it's better not to have to go off-campus to see the images. All you have to do is to go to your album, place your cursor over an image, and click inside the "IMG code" field to copy the image, one image at a time. Then just paste your IMG codes on separate lines in your forum post. Before you post, you'll just see the code in your message. But images will show up when you click on Post.

Love it - very creative and beautifully done. Looks like the elks are closing in before the cops get him.

Grrr. I've seen this one several times, but I can't remember what it was. (One of the advantages of memory loss, however, is that TV reruns are always fresh.)

Or make any license plate you want and print it out. -
What's your application? It doesn't matter if you're posting on threads in this forum, because your image will be reduced (and expandable when you click on it) by the forum software) It's a whole different deal if you wan to post an avatar or a signature.

Very nice, artistic and tasteful. I really like the headlights and taillights.
