First time sharing in You Tube
sjordan2 replied to cruz's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Yeah, Cruz. ¿Que es el problema? I thought the video really added a lot to seeing your awesome builds. On another note, and since production values aren't a big deal, it might be easier to record your models on a lazy susan or other turntable that you move, rather than having to pick them up all the time. All you'd have to worry about is moving the camera up and down. -
MPC 1/12 1930 Bentley Racing Car
sjordan2 replied to John Teresi's topic in WIP: Other Racing: Road Racing, Land Speed Racers
Uhhh...sometimes they need to be taken out or recharged. But if he starts putting in working cams, pistons, diff, brakes, etc. I'll know he's REALLY sick. Like some Pocher modelers I could name. -
Mike, you're reading my mind. (PS - if there are duplications between my comments and yours, that's because we were posting at the same time without knowing what the other was saying.) Let me just say that I think the process for posting pictures is lost down in the Tips, Tricks and Tutorials section and would at least be a bit more noticeable if duplicated and pinned in General (or maybe ALL forums). It also needs to be updated and add clear methods for using not only Photobucket but including Fotki and Flickr, if there are any differences. Actually, we could probably use a whole separate forum on this issue, appearing just below General. That would be hard to miss. Subforums like: • General guidelines (pinned and locked) - also includes how to post an avatar or signature image. • Photobucket (pinned and locked) • Fotki (pinned and locked) • Flickr (pinned and locked) • How to shoot and crop images • Discussion / Q&A (open for comment and new threads)

Another point: Forget trying to upload to the forum directly from your computer. It appears you have used up the allowable amount of memory for doing so - there is a small limit to the amount of kb you can use and very few applications for doing that (you can do it with your avatar). You MUST have an image hosting site. They're free.

What's the deal with 1:43 scale cars?
sjordan2 replied to Willys36's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
As Harry mentioned, rarity certainly is one of the hallmarks of 1:43 diecasts, and they often rival much larger models in detail and accuracy. This inexpensive ($30) IXO curbside model is the only depiction of a one-of-a-kind Mercedes SS, and the 1:1 has pretty much disappeared from public view. I was delighted when I found it, because it's the same car I intend to build from the 1:16 Revell/Minicraft/Entex kit, and - like many specialized 1:43 models - it confirms a lot about details on the 1:1 car, which they evidently had access to. IXO never answered my inquiry for further information. You can get diecasts with even more detail, nice engines and spot-on wire wheels, but then you're getting into $200+. -
What's the deal with 1:43 scale cars?
sjordan2 replied to Willys36's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
When I lived in Brussels, the guy in the teeny efficiency apartment next to me had shelves full of 1:43 diecasts. This was his only real joy in life, and the 1:43 size was perfect for the availability of space. -
Build count for 2011
sjordan2 replied to martinfan5's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Well, I BOUGHT 12 kits this year. Actually building something is on my bucket list. -
roadhawg's link should do the trick. I suggest, however, that you skip to the last 5 screen shots regarding copying, pasting and posting in the forum. You seem to already know how to upload to Photobucket. I'm assuming you want to post a photo and not just a link (the URL to a Web page) as you stated in your post.

2013 Dodge Dart !
sjordan2 replied to moparmagiclives's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Nicely written, Peter. Let's hope that FIAT will no longer stand for "Fix It Again, Tony." -
Cropping is simply going into a full image and taking a smaller detail from it, as shown below. You're just reframing the image. On a Mac, it's an easy process of hitting command/3, press down the mouse and draw your cursor across the part you want to crop and highlight it, then release the cursor to make the screen shot, which in my case appears as a file on my desktop. Then you post it to your image service. Much the same process is used at this free site (there are others, some may be better) or you may already have an image editing tool on your computer. At this site, you just pull on the corners of the box to locate the area you want to crop. http://www.picresize.com/ ORIGINAL PHOTO: CROPPED PHOTO: This means: • If you get the cell camera further away from the model, the sharper the car will be. (Be sure to keep the camera phone steady. I brace my arm on a box or a chair.) • After you've downloaded your image to your computer, just crop in tighter on the car.

Gotcha. Now, who knows specifically about Flickr? -

Okay, going back to another deleted thread. I love ya, crazyjim (and I love SHINY), but why would you post this if you have nothing to add? True, I can't add info on Flickr, but I can add info on posting images, as I did above. -
How To Post Pictures
sjordan2 replied to Big Daddy's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
This site has a complete (and over-complicated) tutorial on how to post images from Photobucket, but I think we really need similar tutorials for Fotki and Flickr. I would think the processes would be similar. It would be good for admin to address this. I would add further suggestions, but I'm on Mac and there are significant keyboard and mouse differences with the 90% who use PC. However, I would recommend Photobucket as your go-to choice for posting forum images. It's insanely simple, though many of our members prefer Fotki. http://www.modelcars...showtopic=12248 -
MPC 1/12 1930 Bentley Racing Car
sjordan2 replied to John Teresi's topic in WIP: Other Racing: Road Racing, Land Speed Racers
Good for you for building a fan. I"m amazed the kit doesn't include it. The B for the door is cool, but it really needs to fit within a debossed oval. -
2013 Dodge Dart !
sjordan2 replied to moparmagiclives's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I don't think there would have been any controversy over the Charger if they had gone with the 1999 concept design. It would still be a winner today - possibly the most beautiful of all current American sedans. -
2013 Dodge Dart !

I can't resist (no offense). But Aries is the sign of the ram and Ares (no "i") is the god of war. Isn't this forum educational? Learning the difference has made me far more effective at crossword puzzles. -

This is from a slightly confused and inaccurate article at allpar.com from a few days ago, but it appears to be the same car. -

A little more info here. It's based on the Alfa Romeo Giulietta. http://www.motorward.com/2011/12/2013-dodge-dart-preview/ -
OLD BIG SCALE JAGUAR QUESTION?!?!?!?!
sjordan2 replied to wraith's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
In complete, unbuilt condition, this kit can go for up to $100 and sometimes even more. It is extremely complicated. If you want to build it, you should really find a complete kit, readily available, and use what you have for back-up parts. I would never attempt a restoration without a lot of experience and back-up parts. I have four of the kits and two parts cars. -
Beautiful craftsmanship, and I'm learning a few things. Not my kind of car, but I will definitely be following this.

I'm cool with that. Who cares about accuracy, truth, reality, professional knowledge, etc?
