Workbench lighting
sjordan2 replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
We had a secretary at the office who was the subject of kidding for years after she incinerated cupcakes in her EZ-Bake oven. -
I suppose you could post your memoir of your great-aunt's needlepoint work here, but I don't know what that has to do with the subjects of this forum, which would be cars, car modeling and the modeling experience. I can't figure out why the comic strip was funny enough to make a special post, regardless of subject. I now withdraw from this discussion.

Scale? (Really teeny, I'm assuming.)
-
No offense, but maybe this is a Facebook thing and not for this forum.

Beautiful. Great work, everyone involved, and I can see some awesome builds coming out of this. To me, it looks even more skillfully done than the Hudson. So, what's the next new thing, Moebius? Want to start a poll? I vote for anything that Pyro did poorly, like a 1948 Lincoln Continental; Auburn Speedster or Revell's Continental Mark II that was only done in 1/32. I know, modelers won't hot rod these, but they're still not represented well in the hobby.

You had a magnifier lamp just like mine. How does your new one compare in terms of the magnifying glass? -
MPC 1/12 1930 Bentley Racing Car

Amazing. Perfect job on creating the wheel weights. Where did the tires come from? They're not from the kit. -
Great website for large scale modelers
sjordan2 replied to sjordan2's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Yes, Erik, that's what I meant. Sorry, my quote bone must have malfunctioned. -
I'm sure this is no news for large scale modelers who visit the MCM site, but I just wanted to bring this up as an example of a site where modeling enthusiasts gather to appreciate each others' work, get information and behave in an always adult fashion. Never any drama here, just information and appreciation all the time, with zero need for admin to step in. And not dull at all. Just a lot of jaw-dropping work. All of that is due to the orientation of the members. http://www.modelcars...do=new_post&f=1 EDIT: As noted below, this is the correct link... http://www.scalemotorcars.com/

When is there to many
sjordan2 replied to gray07's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
WHEN THERE ARE TOO MANY... ,,,Is when the storage company jacks up the price to $82 per month, as they just did. $15 increase over the past 2 years. Got to clean out the back room to make room for them. -
Looks perfect, Art. What's the engine information?
-
I assume this is 12-12-11 at 10:51? PLEASE CONFIRM.

We have plenty of people linked to Moebius here. Is that information not available from them?

Happy Christmas from HMS Ocean
sjordan2 replied to Greg Myers's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I saw this on the Today Show a couple of days ago. Great stuff. -
Yup. The first two were my biggest gripes. I can't believe they released the 275 GTB with the Revell label, and did the same with the Gullwing, mostly found here as a Monogram kit. The hilarious part is that the original Renwal 275 had a hideous box illustration - out of proportion, etc. - which actually was very accurate to what's in the box.

With the talk of scale wieght...
sjordan2 replied to JustBill's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I'm no math whiz, but time would be the one constant that doesn't change by scale. Speed isn't the same as time, of course. Let's say you wanted to emulate the following in 1/25: Kitty O'Neil in 1977 recorded the quickest quarter mile elapsed time of 3.22 seconds at 396 mph. You'd set up a track that's 1/25 of a quarter mile. Then you'd try to control your model so it covers the distance in 3.22 seconds. What you'd see would be the scale equivalent of going 396 mph. I'll leave to someone else to dig up the measurements or a better way of doing it. Another way to measure would be to measure wheel rpms for 1/1 and 1/25. If the 1/1 has so many rpm at 60 mph, the 1/25 version should have the same (assuming it's reasonably accurate in scale). -

sjordan2 replied to John Teresi's topic in WIP: Other Racing: Road Racing, Land Speed Racers
Amazing work on the carburetors. But I'll say again, the windshield stone guard mesh is WAY too thick. You need something like this wire mesh for replacement coffee filters, which is available in any grocery store or housewares department for cheap. -

You might contact HobbyTown USA in Turkey Creek. I think they have meetings there, or used to. -
What's the deal with 1:43 scale cars?
sjordan2 replied to Willys36's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Here's an ultra-expensive 1:43 model of a T59 Bugatti. Note the piano wire wheels. This is also a replica of a one-of-a-kind car as it appeared in road-going form from the late 40s through the early 80s, and which was also a 1:18 Bburago diecast. My plan is to take the Bburago Grand Prix metal kit and make it accurate to the original. -

sjordan2 replied to Willys36's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Yup. I've got his biography. And here he is with it.. However, I wonder if the attribution of the gray car having been owned by Forst (identified as a 1933 model) is really the same car. The one above is a 1928 model. The Mercedes Classic Center couldn't verify anything about either one; they said they lost most of their prewar records in Allied bombing. Likewise, the photographer of the gray car told me he didn't know much about the car's background. -
Search problems...
sjordan2 replied to SuperStockAndy's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Very clever, henry57. I have frequently had problems with the search function on this site, and your Google approach regarding MCM is quite smart. Kudos. -
Looks like we're getting some new members, and some of our older members are still having problems with this issue: How to post images - in threads - in the Gallery - in your signature Well, there are lots of ways about learning how to do this stuff and most of them can easily be found via Google, but MCM has some of its own requirements. I will leave that to Gregg and the moderators to deal with, and I know Gregg is working on improvements, many of which have already been made as of today. BUT, I wonder if any of you know of good, simple tutorials that exist that will make it easier for our members to understand how to use Photobucket, Fotki, Flickr, etc to post images on this forum. I think a good video tutorial will be an excellent tool for helping with that. The following is one of the best I could find, but it also has shortcomings. Do you have any better suggestions?
