Replicating cloth seats - will this work?
sjordan2 replied to Monty's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
As something of a foodie, I looked into the difference between baking soda and baking powder a few years back. Baking soda (sodium bicarbonate) emits more gas under heat, and can be bitter in a recipe unless mixed with an acidic ingredient. Baking powder is about 25% baking soda with the remainder being an acid and starch, usually cornstarch. A bit more stable, with less gas emitted in cooking, and I think it's easier to mix with things. I used to mix it with Testors paints and brushed it on seats for a flat look and it always worked fine for me. -
Want to know about heartless jerks? I'd been watching the race all afternoon, when at 6 pm the local ABC station (WATE-TV, Knoxville, Tennessee) cut away from the network in mid-sentence of the announcer, when everything was still up in the air, to run local station promos and the local evening news, without ever returning to race coverage. No explanation given. I had to go to ESPN.com to find out what happened, and I still don't know what happened with the race past the 5-lap show of honor given by the other drivers.

Gorgeous piece of work, superb paint. I can't tell for sure from the pictures, but did you add window seals and felt? If so, that's a great detail that is too often overlooked.

Based on this spy video, looks like DeTomaso is prepping a new Pantera. http://www.motorauthority.com/news/1059476_de-tomaso-pantera-prototype-spotted-outside-factory-video

Well, the ads seem to rotate in and out. Here's the video I was talking about. Nice wireframe demo towards the end. PS: The MC12 was developed using extensive wind tunnel testing, so our Auto ID car could be a mock-up used for that purpose. Here are some additional auto show shots of the car, with blackout windows and no interior shots, so it's probably a prototype, and the only engine shots show it on a stand and not in the car. http://www.sport-cars.org/serve.php?t=maseratimc12

Digital or not, this is kind of interesting - a website on car design featuring this car, with an ad for Rhinoceros 3D car modeling software. Click on the ad and there's a very cool computer video on the Audi R8. http://www.carbodydesign.com/archive/2006/06/05-maserati-mc12-corsa/

Based on the additional images linked below, it looks an awful lot like a digital illustration. The link also shows a real version at an expo, and the comparison with the other images tells me they're digital. http://www.sportscarcup.com/maserati-mc12-corsa/

I think the very articulate posts by Darin Bastedo and Bob Turner prove that dyslexia can be overcome. As for the Albert Einstein part, this is from TIME magazine: "Einstein was slow in learning how to speak. His parents even consulted a doctor. He also had a cheeky rebelliousness toward authority, which led one headmaster to expel him and another to amuse history by saying that he would never amount to much. But these traits helped make him a genius. His cocky contempt for authority led him to question conventional wisdom. His slow verbal development made him curious about ordinary things — such as space and time — that most adults take for granted. His father gave him a compass at age five, and he puzzled over the nature of a magnetic field for the rest of his life. And he tended to think in pictures rather than words."

These are all 1/32 kits, discussed above. The OP wants a 1/24-1/25 kit.
-
Their current price lists show the MGAs are not available.
-
I only know of the 1/32 versions, but Revell made a 1:18 diecast that's impossible to find. Lindberg made the 1/32, which was intended as a curbside slot car. http://www.model-car...product=rr8443g

That finish is beyond belief. More, more, more.

how did you get hooked ..my 1st kit 1963
sjordan2 replied to mr cheap's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Interesting to see how many people here got hooked by working with their fathers. Same for me. We worked together on the Gowland & Gowland Highway Pioneers - Stutz Bearcat, Tall T, etc. That's why the hobby has always filled in a warm, cozy spot in my soul. -

If price is a major consideration, what are your thoughts on a compressor? -
Outstanding. Wonderful detail.

Learn eBay or train your children to use it. I haven't done either, and "the time" is not far off. -
How Much Do You Have Invested ?
sjordan2 replied to XJ6's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Thousands of dollars in kits and back-up versions, including supplies, books, videos, 1:1 memorabilia, and years of additional online research. Not to mention monthly mini-storage rental costs. And I'm just now getting around to building a kit. This is all due to the fact that my interest is in vintage cars that can't be found within 300 miles of my home and often exist only in Europe. -
What can we learn from Steve Jobs?
sjordan2 replied to sjordan2's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
There's substantial evidence that Jobs treated many of his employees and associates poorly, and some of the people in his personal life even worse. But he was a brilliant man who led the way to significant changes in the way we live today, all for the better. I think if you listen to the substance of his commencement speech in the OP link, you'll find find constructive food for thought. You don't have to like him to get it. -
This forum is composed of people who value quality, innovation and creativity. You may have seen many excerpts today from Steve Jobs' commencement address at Stanford University in 2005, and I thought a few of you would like to benefit from it in its entirety. This relates to the way we view our world, live our everyday lives and even approach our hobbies. One commentator called it the Gettysburg Address of commencement speeches. It's 22 minutes, and worth every second.
