1964 Oldsmobile Cutlass 442------update 12/19/11

Is that a one-part putty? -
Just killer, both of them. Very faithful reproduction of Helck's car. I believe this kit was also issued by Entex.
-
I think the number on the doors should be M4.

Looks like something I'd like to try on top of plastic up tops for my 30s convertible kits instead of fabric. That could provide some realistic and subtle wrinkles.

I think I knew as soon as I said it that a model car alarm could have disastrous consequences Anyway, I've never seen car alarms go off that way, though I've seen it happen spontaneously with no apparent cause, and I was wondering if it had anything to do with all the electronics on board the garbage truck (radio, video cameras, etc). And yeah, I think it's more relevant to interests on this forum than several pages debating military history since the Civil War. -
Cool technique on the tonneau. So, essentially, it's papier-mâché?

Strange phenomenon

Uh, seems to me that asking car guys about a car-related question would be on topic in the general part of this forum. What if I suggested that modelers put alarms in their builds to keep judges and spectators from picking them up? The most important question is, did the trash guy set off any alarms when he used the toilet? (Okay, we're on topic.) -
Quite right, the 1990 ZR1 had a wider rear section, but the changes to the base car body were minor and, as Edmiunds noted, "Restyling came to the Corvette for 1991 with a slicker front end incorporating wraparound foglights, a new rear fascia reminiscent of the ZR-1's that incorporated the third brake light (the latter would remain on the hatch of the ZR-1) and new wheels. Everything else was pretty much a carryover, though the price of the ZR-1 had now ballooned to $64,138 — the first GM automobile to carry a price beyond $60,000."

The hood per se doesn't appear to have changed for the '92-'96 models. The model looks the same as my '93 hood, at least from the outside. The only obvious external differences were to incorporate the side markers in a wraparaound lighting design with parking lights, turn signals and fog lights. The side louvers changed to have horizontal strakes (further modified for '96), and the taillight section changed to a convex shape, with the lights modified from completely round to a more square shape with rounded corners. So, it's really just a few panels that were modified and retained the basic body shape. Wheels became more directional looking, not interchangeable from side to side. On the coupe, the brake light mounted on top of the hatch was kept only for the ZR1 and moved to the tail section for the standard version.

Tonneau looks great. What is the material? How did you make the dash lights? They look perfect.

What happened to scalemotorcars.com ?

I hate it when that happens. (Actually, it did happen the day before we were supposed go live with a client's new site at a major trade show. Our IT department and outside web developers were fired in short order.) -
You could get a golf bag attachment for the original Gullwing, as seen on this '57 model.

Many thanks. I just went to your catalog pics of the engine again and studied them in more detail, and I can see some of the differences you're talking about. Very nice work. I've got to ponder the Weber part for a while, since I've done all my research on the Series 1 3.8. I appreciate your responses. PS: Any progress to report on getting the site running? -

Thanks, that's all good to hear. I'm particularly interested in knowing about the XKE engine since I have a few of the 1/8 Monogram kits in my stash. -
Are there different generations of this design? Your original post of the show car shows a central nose peak that doesn't appear to be part of the kit.

My question is, regardless of whether or not you get one Cuda body back for your investment (in my opinion the future of this project is very iffy), what will you put the body on at this scale? And what is your opinion of the future of the Cobra project? To me, this is not only months, but possibly years away from reaching reality, if ever. I am not at all encouraged by the difficulties encountered by Syd. No intention to dis TDR, but this is all looking very sketchy and pie in the sky. I would further ask if anyone has experience of the differences between their replacement engine for the 1/8 XKE and the kit engine. -

I get different default page information every day, and I assume this is because the site has been taken offline. Do you know if the url will change, and therefore my bookmark? -
how do you make radiator hose clamps?
sjordan2 replied to bigmikevee's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I take this to mean that hardly anyone but the builder will notice. I don't agree. Detail like this can really make a build sing, and can greatly add to the builder's satisfaction. -
It strikes me that a lot of the stuff that's molded onto firewalls would look much improved by scribing around the parts to "lift" them off the firewall surface and create more accurate detail with paint. Has anyone tried this with success, and can you show examples? I think this approach would also be beneficial to interiors, with deeper, crisper seams in seat pleats and around handles and armrests.

Maybe you need to see Midas -
Every time the trash hauler comes through the parking lot to empty the dumpster, the alarm in a Ford Explorer pickup parked in the area goes off, and stops when the trash truck leaves. Can anyone explain this?
-
This will be terrific. By the way, is there any significance to the fact that Mr. "Arotarot" is "tora tora" spelled backward?

Take another year off and there's no telling what you can do. This is superb.
