  1. That makes sense. Revell also reissued Renwal's hideous 1/12 1965 Ferrari 275 GTB and Mercedes Gullwing kits produced in the same era. I'd be scared about the GT 350 if it's anything like those - except Rade8boy sure did a nice job on it.
  2. Not that Wikipedia is always right, but here's what they say... "Willys (correctly pronounced "Will-is", but almost universally as "Will-eez") was the brand name used by Willys-Overland Motors, an American automobile company best known for its design and production of military Jeeps (MBs) and civilian versions (CJs) during the 20th century." I grew up hearing it as Willis.
  3. If Gerald Wingrove did stuff like this...
  4. I know there are several builders who like to do their own fantasy Batmobiles. This would make a good starting point for a steampunk version
  5. Ron, If you decide to do the Hertz version, you'd want to eliminate the side louvers on the roof and replace them with glass with a thin chrome surround. Also, you might create your own decals for the proper ID below. You may have a better idea, but I'd paint the gold stripes, and reproduce the black parts on clear decal paper. Others may have better suggestions. As for the rest of the differences, I don't know.
  6. The BMF package shows an address of P.O. Box 82, Farmington, Michigan 48332 You could call them at one of these numbers and see if they'll take a check or money order. (248) 476-4366 (248) 477-0813
  7. Whether it's real or not, it's fun to watch.
  8. Absolutely killer! What did you use for carpets?
  9. Also looks like a black radiator, which is a bit unexpected.
  10. If you MUST buy a kit in Rome, I'd track down the rare-as-hen's-teeth Italeri Mercedes 300 SL Gullwing in 1:16 (rare in the US, anyway). The roadster version is readily available here, as are the Minicraft/Entex Gullwings. Good luck on how you handle your baggage coming back. It's pretty big and not a particularly solid box.
  11. I don't know what factory colors were actually available, or what was authentic for each particular year, but this shows a couple of shades of blue, red, burgundy – and my favorite, the Hertz rental car in black with gold stripes from later years (known as the GT350H). http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&biw=1377&bih=757&gbv=2&tbm=isch&sa=1&q=1965+shelby+gt350+mustang&btnG=Search&oq=1965+shelby+gt350+mustang&aq=f&aqi=&aql=&gs_sm=s&gs_upl=40486l42366l0l5l5l0l0l0l0l196l690l1.4l5
  12. Wow, rade8boy, that's nice. I was still working on this post before I saw it. One way I size up a potential purchase is to check out the instructions, but you probably already know that. Your beautiful builds always look like you did a ton of preparation. http://public.fotki.com/drasticplasticsmcc/instruction_sheetsh/instruction_sheets/revell-5/revell-shelby-350-g/ I would assume this kit is very similar to the Mustang GT. Here's a not-very-good build that leaves me questioning a number of things... http://cgi.ebay.com/BUILT-MODEL-KIT-REVELL-1965-MUSTANG-1-12TH-SCALE-/370515742299?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item5644758e5b

    BMW 507

Great build on one of the coolest automotive designs of all time. What paint did you use? That's somewhat close to what I want to use on my Maserati 3500 GTi, though I can't find anything just like this picture.
  14. Harry also scanned the entire book for me and posterity. As far as I know, it's the only digital file on the Phantom II owner's manual in existence.
  15. :D :D I'm a lot better at researching than building. You know the old saying, "Those who can't do, teach."
  16. I get it. I've also felt disappointed in the reaction of modelers who want lots of information on the Mercedes Gullwing – and I've got massive reference on that – but don't really take advantage of it. But I'm always happy to share it with people who have a real interest and not just a casual one, and who might build one someday. Or not.
  17. Evidently, the kit is so new they haven't posted the instructions yet. The kit number is 85-4272 and it's not there. But thanks, it's good to know about that resource.
  18. My bad. Just trying to help with the reference I could dig up. I might add that I added a link to a list of differences between the competition and street versions that you mentioned, as described by Cobra experts. You might send your thoughts to TDR before they screw up the creation of a very expensive kit in that's in progress. If you have better visual reference that you could post here for the OP, that could be helpful.
  19. Here's a very good comparative chart from Alex Kustov describing the various Enzo Ferrari kits and aftermarket parts including PE. I don't know if the Revell Uptown series has an Enzo (not mentioned in the list), but Alex says Revell's kit is outstanding but doesn't have opening doors. http://italianhorses.net/DB/F50-F430.htm#Enzo%20Ferrari
  20. For a crazy amount of detailed, large-scale reference, check this out... http://www.scalemotorcars.com/forum/large-scale-cars/12933-test-driving-tdr-427-roadster.html Here's where it goes in their 427 test kit Also, here's an interesting thread where someone building the Monogram model (our fellow member Darin Bastedo!) is asking questions of experienced Cobra guys.. http://saacforum.com/index.php?topic=881.0
  21. It's the Peugeot EX1. (all-electric)It set a lap record at Nurburgring. http://www.thechargingpoint.com/2011/05/04/peugeot-nabs-the-electric-vehicle-lap-record-at-nurburgring/ Lots more images here: http://www.google.com/search?tbm=isch&hl=en&source=hp&biw=1377&bih=757&q=peugeot+ex1+concept+carz&btnG=Search+Images&gbv=2&oq=peugeot+ex1+concept+carz&aq=f&aqi=&aql=&gs_sm=s&gs_upl=2282l9118l0l24l24l0l8l4l0l183l1868l7.9
  22. Here's a build journal of the Tamiya kit that may help overall, but isn't very helpful on door attachment. http://italianhorses.net/Gallery/Tamiya/TamSMSEnzo/enzo.htm As you can see from this photo, each door is attached at two points: 1 on the top front of the roof and the other just below the A pillar. If you look closely at these instructions for the FXX, you might get something of an idea. If you want opening doors, I'd just get a Tamiya kit that has them.
  23. I didn't have a big problem with the SPEED coverage, and evidently they had big criticisms about the French TV feed where all those guys went to bed for the night and just left the cameras on. But did they ever do anything on the Legends race? I was watching all through normal human viewing hours (okay, I slept from 2 am to 7 am) and never saw anything about it.
  24. Great stuff. The only suggestion I would have would be to add the instructions.
  25. Summary article here with a 410-shot gallery. http://www.ultimatecarpage.com/event/281/2011-24-Hours-of-Le-Mans.html
