Those wheel rims look very crinkly and not good at all. You may want to consider Alclad or Spaz Stix.

Has anybody built a model of a bicycle?
sjordan2 replied to edward smith's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Marcos – what scale are those bikes you showed? -
I've been very thoughtful on this Veterans' Day with every new piece of TV coverage and wonderful threads like this, and just now I had the experience of watching a pair of guys in ultralight craft flying over my neighborhood, one of them with a stars and stripes sail. Well, it's emotional.

Discovered this while I've been researching my 1/18 (really 1/16-1/15) Bburago 1934 T59 Bugatti. Looks like it may be 1/6 scale. Totally authentic to the eye.

No disrespect intended. November 10th is the Marine Corps anniversary, but November 11 is Veterans Day, to honor all service branches. My comment was intended to include all those who served and to note the proximity of the Marine Corps anniversary.

I was just an Army desk jockey, but my appreciation goes out to the Marines, especially on Veterans Day, Thursday, November 11.

Beautiful piece of work, nice finish with wonderful color that makes me want one more than ever. However, I would suggest cutting some masking for more precise window trim (nothing really critical, just a constructive observation as I see it).

Here's a build of the reissue, currently in the Under Glass section. http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=37589

Problems with MCM forum
sjordan2 replied to crazyjim's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I had a problem getting the FORBIDDEN screen for around an hour the other day. I'm on Mozilla-Firefox, which has been in general very stable for me on Mac, so I think the problem would be somewhere besides, or in addition to, the browser (on Mac, you can occasionally lose your Internet connection altogether because the wi-fi Airport router and Firefox can stop talking to each other). -
Ultraslick. Fabulous paint work.

Well, this takes me totally out of my element. But I'll guess model because the seat doesn't seem quite right and it's all so chromey, including the handlebar grips.

2004 Infiniti G35. Nice, but not as luxurious or as much fun as the coupe versions I've had.

My new favorite commercial
sjordan2 replied to Peter Lombardo's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
The only reason I know that Castrol is the advertiser for "Think with your dipstick, Jimmy" is that I Googled it. I like it because it's ridiculous and suggestive, but it's another example of vampire video. -

Just goes to show that violence and antisocial behavior can be funny. Who was the advertiser again? But I still can't deal with the Budweiser Super Bowl commercial from a few years ago where a sleigh horse's fart gets lighted and burns the babe in the sleigh. There ARE limits. -

Those are all brilliant, and they illustrate the importance of continuity (which Geico ignores and gets away with all the time). I thought Dennis Haysbert for Allstate was one of the best old-time, stand-up spokespersons I'd seen in a long time, in a very straight and traditional way, because he has real charisma and authority. But this "mayhem" guy who replaces him and is 180 degrees different, breaks new ground, and I think he's going to be a star. His name is Dean Winters, and he reminds me of a fabulous actor named Walton Goggins, who plays bad guy Boyd Crowder on "Justified" (one of my most recent guilty pleasures). -

Love it, even though Geico breaks all the rules. They have a strange kind of continuity – it's a stew of a gecko, cavemen and other weird stuff, but they always connect you to the brand. And I love the "Whee, whee" piggy commercial, which is also for Geico. -

Is that the one with the rabbits laughing at him? Once again, I don't know who the advertiser is. Another favorite ad: Animals who naturally prey on each other playing together at an African waterhole, with a very catchy tune, "Can't we get along?" I don't know who the advertiser is here, either. It reminds me of the recent, great GE commercials, but it isn't GE. -

As a longtime ad agency copywriter and TV producer, this goes against everything I know about strategic positioning and relevance to the client's business. Except it's wonderful, one of my favorite TV spots out there. Brilliant. I love this every time I see it. Except...as an advertising professional and not necessarily as an old fogey (which I am)... I can never remember who the advertiser is or what they're selling. The older folks among us will remember two very famous, cool and funny Alka-Seltzer campaigns, "I can't believe I ate the whole thing" and "That's a SPICY meatball." Problem was, they didn't resonate with viewers and sales actually went down during the campaigns' run and they were yanked. When I was working at McCann-Erickson on the Exxon account, this is what we used to call "vampire video," where the execution sucked the life out of the sales proposition. But I still love this spot. -
Speaking of retro...

Yup. That's how it will be registered in the UK. -
Audi R8 GT3.....one down, three more to go

That multi-level decal approach looks like it might be useful for creating engine-turned patterns over silver and chrome surfaces. -
Daniel, I think it would great if you posted something on the Tips, Tricks & Tutorials section about how to disassemble and detail a built diecast model. I know each one is different, but you must have a certain approach you take.

How do YOU like your tires ?
sjordan2 replied to Greg Myers's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I build generally at 1/16. While rubber is far more realistic, it has a tendency to sag and to peel away from the rims at that scale, and can deteriorate. As an alternative, plastic and resin are too hard and not realistic to me. So I would vote for vinyl as a good compromise. -
Would all those sixes be the sign of the devil?
