Just wonderful. Outstanding work. Let's see more detail.

PS: How do you intend to replicate the extra disk wheel covers for the fender-mounted spares? I would love to get my hands on a set of 6 for my 1/16 Phantom III.
-
Wow, this is going to be very challenging to turn it into a Torpedo body style. What paint do you intend to use for the polished metal effect?
-
I agree with all the superlatives. The body is Alclad?

Lots of fun, variety and creativity here, nicely done. Your enjoyment of the hobby is very clear.

Other Models section

Excellent move. There's always a lot to admire and learn from in other modeling subjects. -
Very odd. Here's what I'm referring to.

niteowl, you are correct to the letter of the law. But I think Darin is correct when it comes to life in the real world, at least at this level. On the other hand, on a topic on the same subject this summer in the truck section, my research found that regarding original, uncopyrighted photography posted on a forum, the copyright belongs to the forum management – the publisher. There is probably no element of law that is more complex and conflictive than copyright and trademark law, and I've had to deal with it all of my 35-year career in national advertising. Of interest to car modelers, one of my favorite sites for 1:1 reference is Schlegelmilch photography. While Boris makes his copyright clear on every shot, he nonetheless makes it available for sharing and re-use by registered members (free). He makes his money by selling stock photos and gallery-quality prints, and publishing coffee table car books. http://www.schlegelmilch.com/ -
Future project...1969 Nova
sjordan2 replied to Darin Bastedo's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Don't even get me started on misleading box art. But you did an outstanding job of photographing the kit body to look just the same as the photo above it. Looks like the radius on the front wheel well is going to need some rounding out. -
I'm going WAY out on a limb here, but there are clues that tell me this is a stunning model.

A beautiful build of an unusual kit. You've filled it with things with so much significance, and you've totally filled it with love.

Suggestion about works in progress postings
sjordan2 replied to sjordan2's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
You are one of two or three who has stated this opinion in a reasonable and positive way. I never said a WIP shouldn't be posted at all, and I agree with ongoing encouragement and suggestions. It's just that there have been so many WIP threads that appear to have been abandoned, such as the recreation of a custom Duesenberg, multiple threads of bodies sitting on custom wheels, and one with incredible scratchbuilt chassis work without a final model ever being finished over the years, among several others. I just don't understand the over-the-top response by a couple of people to a simple suggestion. -

I don't owe an apology to people who can't read. -
Suggestion about works in progress postings
sjordan2 replied to sjordan2's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Well, if you read my original post, I have no idea why it could be construed the way it has been. And what is there to be "called out" on? It was a simple suggestion. And to respond to your comment, Highway took it WAY over the top. End of story, lock the thread, this should never have gone in this direction. -
Suggestion about works in progress postings

Once again I just said (1) it's frustrating and (2) it's a suggestion. Not a rant. I'm not condemning anyone. Why would anyone be offended? -
Suggestion about works in progress postings
sjordan2 replied to sjordan2's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Jeez, lighten up, pal. I just said it was frustrating, not that the person posting should be sent to the deepest reaches of Hades. And I have the right to say a lot of things, just as you do. AND I NEVER SAID ANYONE WAS NOT TALENTED!!Why do you have to come across as so hateful? And why all the big, bold red type? Anyway, you go back to your whiskey and I'll go back to my wine. -
Sometimes, it can get frustrating watching a build in progress that disappears for days, weeks or months before it's finished. Maybe it would be better for builders to keep a photographic journal of their build and not post on this forum until it's finished, where they can then show the progress all the way to the end after it's finished. Only a very few of the most talented builders on this forum can keep things moving until the end.

I still think there is a cogent automotive allegory in here somewhere, but Google hasn't cooperated yet. EDIT: I FOUND IT!! FROG + CAR RELEVANCE! I think.

The thing is, the kit has a very pronounced, molded-in wood grain, which is very unrealistic. You wouldn't want any visible texture. Here's the car the kit is based on; take a look at the wood and you'll see that it's as smooth and shiny as glass, like most other Phantom IIs, regardless of the type of wood (and burled would be very nice): http://www.thesandiegocollection.com/cgi-bin/showroom/detail.cgi?id=2128
-
What are you doing with the wood grain? I would suggest replacing the kit dash and door wood to get rid of the overly textured plastic pieces, and use styrene or other material to replace them with decals of actual wood (French Walnut was usually the wood of choice by Rolls coachbuilders of the day). The finish would be very smooth and heavily lacquered.

Lots of F1 and motorcycles, Mustang, supercharged Bentley, Lola, Caterham, Porsche 911 Turbo, Trumpeter Ford GT40, Lancia Stratos, Ferrari Testarossa, Ferrari F40, Lamborghini Countach, 1937 Cord, Mercedes 450 SL & SLC, Lotus Europa, original Mini Cooper, Datsun 240Z, Big Red Baron, a few rare and hideously expensive kits, plus the horrendous Mercedes Gullwing and Ferrari 275 GTB kits. And others.

Catenation. That's good.
