  1. sweet build! nice engine detailing!
  2. few more detail pics
  3. I had spare parts from a bunch of AMT Manx kits plus a Streetle Beetle glue bomb body to save, so I decided to mash it up together and practice some super detailing to get ready for a couple of upcoming projects: Brake lines from rear wheels to master cylinder. Fuel lines from carbs to Moon tank. Battery cables. Carb linkage and accelerator cable. Clutch cable. Seat belts. Magneto plug wires.
  4. Sweet tire/wheel tuck inside the fenders. Perfect! Excellent execution of a not so easy to build kit.
  5. Thanks! Fenders are the hasegawa bug's, sides and tailgate from Revell 37 panel van, bed floor from amt falcon ranchero. Pics in my fotki.....named .....empinut.
  6. Thanks! More vw stuff coming.
  7. Just noticed I forgot the mirrors with the upper door hinges ...doh..
  8. Thanks guys. dropgates .com has the full history on the Binz....coachbuilt, lots of variations, shoddy workmanship, etc. This will be a phantom of sorts...it will have the wider side windows and larger door. Not sure if I will add the ugly drivers side seam leftover from the pick up conversion in real life. I may or may not leave in the sunroof and sky lite windows....still deciding. It will be slammed on 4.5' crableg fuchs in front and 6" fuchs in back and it will have early bumpers and the barndoor conversion. Since it is a barndoor I will have to add the semaphores and reverse the door to suicide style. It will NOT be ratty or rusty. some inspiration.... my style...but a "normal" factory crew cab:
  9. Thanks for the nice comments! Here are some early pics if interested.
  10. Thanks! The AMT kit was the Lug Bug and maybe the van version. No boxes came with them. A lot of parts from the Hasegawa VW bus were used along with parts from the Revell Calf. Roller VW bus (suspension)and AMT Manx. Fun quick builds.
  11. Very cool. Not my style but looks great. Killer stance! My fotki with lots of vw stuff.... http://public.fotki.com/empinut/models/
  12. Trying to figure out the best way to post pics. http://images57.fotki.com/v256/photos/9/22919/8766749/qZRH-vi.jpg http://images57.fotki.com/v256/photos/9/22919/8766749/qZRH-vi.jpg http://images54.fotki.com/v514/photos/9/22919/8766749/ujrfbA0dhEYq7RMDsJmg6D9FGSv_z2-vi.jpg http://images20.fotki.com/v685/photos/9/22919/8766749/dCNKa0bZQ2KiRRJZkw8_CU2TRw5MEI-vi.jpg http://images20.fotki.com/v685/photos/9/22919/8766749/dCNKa0bZQ2KiRRJZkw8_CU2TRw5MEI-vi.jpg
  13. Finishing up some old projects and builds. Comments and questions encouraged. Let me know which ones are of interest. thanks
  14. Parts box built up. Grafted on fujimi 356 front suspension parts for more detail. Front & rear hubs for 5 bolt rims from Hasegawa Kubelwagen wheels. Type 1 long block with dual single carbs. Gates tires from old Amt Blazer. White metal lug nut/studs for each wheel. Waiting on a body tub from a resin caster friend....you know who you are.
  15. Had an extra Revell 23 window bus and hasegawa pick up and was going to make a crew cab, but that has been done already and even in resin so decided to make it a Binz. Barndoor version for added flavor. This will not be stock, but a lowered resto cal look. Major body cuts made, working on extra wide door and driver side crew cab window trim. Barn door conversion started on roof with front panel finished. http://images61.fotki.com/v53/photos/9/22919/8766749/02224961184-vi.jpg http://images16.fotki.com/v369/photos/9/22919/8766749/422971184-vi.jpg More vw stuff to follow
  16. Here are some more pics of Manx projects scattered on this page. Don't forget to grind away a little of the tub where the top of the shock towers touch the tub. This is a tiny step that will allow everything to locate and fit a little better. I also suggest the best way to fit the exhaust is to glue it together first at the collector, using super glue, NOT the cylinder heads. You can then carefully spread the bag of snakes over the engine. It also makes it easier and cleaner when painting. http://public.fotki.com/empinut/models/built_models_sold/built_by_me_sold/page2.html
  17. Some of my Manx builds: http://public.fotki.com/empinut/models/manxtowdteeveeimp/
  18. Answers for some questions: Turbo (or what looks like a turbo)was from a parted out Tamiya 1/12 scale kit. I created the exhaust piece by piece using parts box scraps. The wheels are shelby resin inserts from RMM on detail master aluminum rims. Wheel caps are the air cleaners from a meyers manx carb. In progress pics in the "on the bench" section under Shorty VW Craziness. Thanks for looking! Bill
  19. OK, here is an update on the all window bus: Lots of body smoothing, tamiya primer, testors light yellow lacquer, testors pearl clear. Just made the interior door panels, painted brown. Attached 3 foot pedals. Bumpers smoothed and painted white. Here is a tease for the crew cab, I will start a new thread in the Finished ?Pau? section showing more pics. EMPI Aloha plate from a glue bomb Tamiya 1/18 scale Empi Imp fits just right. thanks for your comments. Bill
  20. Mounted the wheels and tires.....aluminum rim rings, rep & min shelby resin inserts, rear tires from a tamiya 1/20 scale Honda 60's racer. Final tuning on the engine.... Thanks for all the encouragement!... It's helping me stay motivated! Bill
  21. Thanks for the nice comments! Upgraded brakes are because I ran out of original kit parts for these orphaned chassis units that were in my parts bins. Think the original issue was in 1968. Reissue in '69 or '70? Here is some Manx info: Manx Club link thanks, Bill
  22. Thanks for all of the nice comments! Was not thinking yellow for the all-window bus in order to make it less of a novelty, but may look into that now. The extractor exhaust started with pieces from an early MPC dune buggy gluebomb built up that were cut up and reconfigured to fit a collecter from an early amt indy car. I do have some candy tangerine for the crew cab...good call. Wish I could show these and others I have, but it never seems to work out. Thanks for the encouragement. Thanks for noticing the body work on the crew cab, mating the roof section to the beltline. These kits from AMT already came shortened in wheelbase. I never liked the original chrome show car ladder bar based suspension. Bill
  23. this AMT gluebomb needed a new roof section from a Hasegawa "parted out" kit. Even though it is a curbside I somehow motivated myself into making a crazy turbo engine for it along with a detailed suspension using parts from the Revell Calif. Roller VW Bus kit. Working on the wheels right now. Door lines had to be rescribed. VW engine was "re-engineered" to make all the psuedo Turbo parts fit. I always wanted to make the amt all window bus into a deals wheels type street machine and this is what ended up coming out the other end so far. Chassis uses a narrowed Gunze Beetle engine/suspension plate. Bill
