where did that type 3 karmann ghia go?
empinut replied to jbwelda's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
The Type 3 Karmann Ghia Razor resin kit will resume in the "on the workbench" section shortly. Here are a few sneak peeks. thanks, Bill -
original post got hijacked a few times, so I thought it would be good to start over. here is inspiration: update: I wanted to stay with original VW parts for the conversion, so I used the rear corners and window from the Revell Calif. Roller VW Van. also spent a lot of time removong the flash lines on the hasegawa body. they were like cement! It took a lot of sanding stick effort. Bill

thanks a mix of "nos" parts and glue bomb stuff. I am hoping they reissue this obscure 1968 issue box version... Bill

thanks guys. definitely a pancake...although the 48ida's may be poking through the bed I have lived in Houston for 14 years but grew up in socal in the 70's -90's attending Bug in's, Johnny's speednchrome shows, and vw classics. diymirage (name?)....geez, wish I saw how you made your cuts for your pick up...would have saved me a lot of time trying how to figure it out! if you wanna see more vw stuff, I've added picks to my fotki....empinut. thanks, Bill

Have a couple of manx glue bombs that need some attention before the reissue shows up. Bill

I spent some time running through all the early 30's-40's-50's panel trucks to see which would have the best rear corner panels. as it ended up, the 37 ford panel by Revell just needed a little massaging. The biggest issue was where to cut the Beetle body. You can see my 1st choice, leaving in the beetle behind door quarter panels, which ended up being a lucky 1st guess to avoid extra body work. More projects to come as I am working on a few projects at once. Bill

I created the 5 Bolt BRM (in plastic), Radar, and American wheel. Over the years I have commissioned various casters to pop out a few. At this time, past agreements and permission to recast have been stopped. A new caster has asked permission to repop them and I am curious as to the demand. The white metal BRM was mastered by Dennis Chung. It is 1/24 scale and more flat than my version. I would have to ask his permission for that version. The other wheels, tires shown could also be repopped. The gates commando tires are getting harder to find. This is for you VW guys out there, your thoughts? thanks, Bill

This project looks great! Did you guys check out the white wheels in the Revell 1967 station wagon 21 window kit? The tires that came with the kit have been resin cast by modelhaus I think. You can also find the tires in the 56 chevy custom version...green with white interior. They come in a sealed plastic bag which I have yet to break open. Cool period slicks in there also. The green wheels are from the IMC fiberfab VW kit, same as the IMC beetle. The new VW Bus wheels are shown for size comparison. I will start a separate post regarding my custom VW wheels that I mastered plus some other kit wheels that will soon be offered by a resin caster if there is a strong enough response. Bill

I am luvin all the VW stuff being posted so I thought I would join in. Here are some long term projects that have been a diversion for me from other projects. They are ugly right now, but you get the point. The 2 AMT shorty bus' were glue bombs. Custom blue crew cab will be a panscraper and have a walk through; shorty pick up will be a pseudo barn door; not sure yet what the window bus will be. Bill

created a couple of hasegawa Cal-look rolling chassis for the scalekraft resin Heb and resin Stoll that include a lowered and narrowed front beam (posable), lowered rear torsion tube for fat meats out rear plus additional tweaks like front bulkhead work and shortblock conversion from the kubelwagon kit for a more realistic early 25 horse mouse motor. just mounted the detailed porsche fuchs, fronts are crableg conversions for 135 scale tires. pics also show what this chassis looks like under a 67 and 66 beetle. This super rare Heb kit + one of a kind chassis + extra engine and extra stock and period correct speed detail parts will be on ebay soon. enjoy. Bill M.

New Beetle Hebmueller
empinut replied to Modelmartin's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
Andy, I have a perfect ScaleKraft original early VW Heb kit including the interior, split dash, bumpers, fender skirts, banjo steering wheel, interior panels, convert boot & uptop that have been soaked clean, but has not been painted that I will be listing on ebay shortly. I am clearing out the rest of my collection of rare VW stuff. I am keeping a few projects like the ScaleKraft Stoll (for now). I also built the Hasegawa Beetle chassis, lowering it and narrowing the front end, plus I detailed a set of porsche crableg fuchs to approximate that 2 toned red & cream, slammed "Nostalgic Look" early Heb custom that someone showed on your thread. If you are interested in this ScaleKraft Heb before I list it on ebay let me know. I will post some pics later. empinut@aol.com Bill Murrieta -
Nice toys Richard! A slot car vendor found on ebay made copies of the Maisto(?) diecast T3 Notchback. It is not very accurate and is about 1/22 scale. I may use them as funny car bodies. The chassis is from a 911 fujimi porsche. The resin notch body i am using does not have any opening panels so it will work well as an interior platform. I did have to stretch the wheelbase just a bit in front & back. thanks & check out my fotki for more pics. notch project pics

In accident I grabbed the "Clearview 2000" primer....... Then I mistakenly used the "Clearview 2000" color coat...... It's now in the special CSC CV2000 stripper.

hi Gregg, Thanks for the opportunity to set up a blog on your site. I have been wanting to do this but was too lazy in the past. It seems like some people have stalled out on their blogs, will this cause you to eliminate the community blog feature? I had a question regarding the "syndicate blog" button. What does this do/mean? I know a few of your viewers (and you?) are somewhat interested in VW stuff, so I have added some of my favorite links to my blog that I have found. These sites have some of the best VW links in the World on them. I hope to participate in some shows next year as I will finally finish some of the obscure VW models that I have been working on....the resin Notch, ScaleKraft Hebmueller & Stoll; VW Kombi bus from a Japanese company called "Hobby". thanks again, Bill Murrieta Empinut

but the rest is done. With the over the top rear tires and exhaust pipes and windshield and headlights, I figured the tail lights needed to be "special" also. More at my Blog thanks, Bill

great project Marc. I'm diggin it!

Bill, Thanks for taking pics as you complete each task! Amazing dedication to perfection!

Thanks guys. This tamiya kit can actually be built pretty quick if you stick to a few basic colors....Black chassis, black engine, single body color, single interior color. My only complaint is that the interior is a little amt-ish for a $29 msrp kit with molded in handles on the door panels, a molded in rear seat and a dash that has only molded in detail with no decals. hey Marc, Both Bug bodies in the first picture were primed with tamiya white primer than undercoated with ts17 aluminum silver and then painted with the tamiya color...metallic red or metallic green. thanks and more to come.

Update. Hit a roadblock with life stuff...but started up again. Changed my mind on the generator set up....will add an altenator as you can see i removed the generator from the stand in the kit. Pistons, cylinders, engine mounted. also reworked the front trunk to accept the lowered front beam. Inside tin is primed & drying. sSomewhat boring update, but moving forward! Thanks and HAPPY THANKSGIVING!
