  1. I know that one can achieve a slightly worn look, but still relatively new, by sanding the tires' treat area. I do have a Dremel tool and some sanding drums. Just need to know very precisely your best technique, whether it involves Dremel or is done by hand or other means. Thanks.
  2. [quote Still have lots to do, but it's coming along. I guess the harsh snow has inspired me since going out is a nightmare. Comments welcomed of course. Bob
  3. Good deal. Glad you got covered. Iknow about that alternative as I bought a stinger scoop and a flat hood for a 67 Chevelle. to do the same thing.
  4. Ed at Drag City Casting can sell you a stinger scoop to put on a flat hood. May take a bit of filler and sanding. Drag City Casting
  5. I saw that in the mag . . . neat. That's the way I've done a few and it works really well . . IF you have a good inkjet or color laser printer. Neat tag to put on it and nice looking lambo.
  6. I bet the front piece is a super turbo inlet and the rear appendage is some kind of super secret spoiler. I think the resin guys need to get busy!
  7. Jody, I'm not sure I underswtand; are you looking for parts (that you named) that are different than the parts-pak parts, but work with it? I've got a parts-pak Caddy engine, unopened, if that would help
  8. 100% Bada$$ !!! Looks great. Build em the way YOU like em. Good work.
  9. Like my boy Lewis Grizzard once said . . . "Dern brother, I don't believe I woulda told that!!" Phil
  10. Me too. I'm not sure how the piracy issue could be worked around, but I'd try to scratch together enough nickels to buy a CD or DVD of backissues.
  11. Got your PM. Found the steelies and dogdish caps. Put em in a box with a set of skinny tires. They'll go out in mail Thursday. What kind of RR body are you looking for?
  12. Did you try coating it with clear acrylic? I notice most of the decal sheets say to spray on a "fixer" and they recommend Krylon Acrylic Clear. Glad you tried it, though. At least we're getting closer to an answer. Phil
  13. Nick, what are you still needing, bud? I've got a 68 Charger kit that you can have the steelies and dogdish hubcaps from if you want them. PM me your mailing address.
  14. I've gotten several 727s, and some other trannys, from MAD (Morgan Automotive Detail). http://www.lpstech.com/mad.htm Kris Morgan has some really neat stuff besides trannys and has always given me outstanding service!.
  15. Has anybody tried using a color printer on thin styrene sheet? I've been thinking about trying some decal paper with a color printer, but it brought to mind that I might rather print some things on very thin styrene sheet as well. To my mind, that opens a whole realm of other possibilities . Anybody had any experience with this? Thanks, Phil
  16. Good idea. This is the 1:1. And . . . thanks for the response. I've just begun modeling again after a generation "off" (or more) and although I'm making progress in the areas of improvisation and technique, I still need all the help I can get imagining the "how to". Thanks again and I'll still appreciate any additional input.
  17. I'm building a 71 Chevelle to replicate the 1:1 we rebuilt for my son's first car. His was a Malibu so had the sweeper speedo type dash, as opposed to the SS dash. We pulled out the sweeper and fabricated an aluminum panel to put in its place with white-faced Autometer Guages. So, the kit I have has the SS type dash. I don't want to just glue a panel over the SS guages as it would look awful and stick out too far. I've got clear decals for the guages and PE bezels. I've got sheet styrene in .010, .020 and .040. The dash panel itself needs to be satin black while the decals need to be put over white styrene to have the white faces. Is this best done with one piece of styrene? Looks to me like if I do it with one sheet, I would need to just sit the bezels on the styrene to get rough spacing, then apply decals, then glue bezels, then paint outside the bezels satin black. That's some mighty intricate painting, though and I fear getting satin black everywhere If I use two sheets, I could just construct the first panel (to go in back) as described above. Then take a second piece of styrene painted satin black and try to get holes into the top panel so the mounted guages would stick through still showing white-face. I'm not sure which would be hardest or if there is yet another way to do this. I have zero experience with this kind of stuff, so I can use all the help I can get. If you can take the time to help me out, please give very specific instructions. This seems like a daunting task to me, but I have to learn to do stuff like this. Thanks for any help!!!!!
  18. That's a great idea to build a replica of my first kit. It was a 63 Vette that was a metalflake candy red with gigantic blower sticking out through the hood. Gluebomb Supreme!
  19. I've been in touch with Don about an order I placed and he has been very forthcoming about what the holdup has been. Not bad holdup, though, especially considering the reason. I got my order in a bit over 9 weeks. His website did say give it 6-8 weeks, so nine and a half isn't bad. He apparently got a bad load of resin and had to replace it / work with his supplier or whatever. I'd WHOLE lot rather wait an extra week or so while he straightened that out instead of getting cheesy products. The products looked very good in my estimation. A little bit of slash, but certainly not bad at all. He also grudgingly admitted that there had been some family matters that landed on his shoulders as eldest. He wasn't whining and didn't want to use that as an excuse. Being the eldest myself, I can relate to having those things come up. Don has some really nice products and some I've never seen elsewhere. I know he's busting it to catch up and it does bother him that he's been a bit behind. If you've had problems getting an order, I suggest trying the email now. He seems very responsive and is just under the gun. For me, I say give Don a bit of grace and cut him some slack to allow him to prove himself as far as turnaround time. For one, I'm not worried about not getting anything I order from him and will buy from him again.
  20. Awesome diorama Ed. Well researched and sounds like you had fun doing the research. Man, I remember when the "filling station" was MUCH more than a place you breezed by to get gas. I'm not that old and I remember buying gas for my first car that cost 22.9 per. I used to wait for the schoolbus in a corner neighborhood gas station.
  21. Thanks!! I'll go get a can of the Mica Blue. I think the TS-30 looks closest. Since we don't have the Chevelle anymore, I'm going from memory (which is about shot like the rest of me). Thanks again, Phil
  22. I'm in the process of building the 71 Chevelle that I use as my avatar. The pic is a pretty good representation of the color the car actually is. What color would you say would give me the closest match to this (I think I need to work with enamel) Thanks!!
  23. Thanks Randy. Understand delays, just need to know what's going on. I'll use this forum to contact you. Looking forward to receiving parts. Thanks again, Phil
  24. Hey Nick. Thanks for checking. I'm Phil Harkins in Brandon Mississippi. Ordered several hoods in June, sent the $38 check which was cashed in July, sent two e0mails - unanswered and am still waiting.
