White Freightliner Cabover
raisin27 replied to raisin27's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Some progress on the White Cabover. Frame is nearly done. Working on the muffler now, I will be converting it to single exhaust. Trying to decide what I want to do with the rear fenders, red?, aluminum silver? or leave them off entirely. Still no major issues with the kit, but that may change as I have started on the 3 piece cab! -

I recently built this kit as my first big rig build. It was made straight out of the box and now I think I would like to do a more detailed version similar to what you are doing with this one. I don't know a lot about the real trucks and was wondering if you could recommend a site where I could see wiring diagrams for the brake, fuel, and other lines? Thank you -
White Freightliner question
raisin27 replied to raisin27's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Thanks everyone, I ended up modifying the brake drums to narrow the track about .050 per side. -
Got started on the White Freightliner. So far so good. I haven't run into any of the horror stories I have seen about this kit. Yes the directions are a little vague in some areas, but nothing that I haven't been able to figure out yet. But then again I haven't got started on that 3 piece cab! I did narrow the front track width about .100" by redoing the brake drums.

That turned out great. Beautiful conversion. -
For my second big rig build I am doing the single drive version of the AMT White Freightliner. I have heard some not very flattering things about this kit, one of them being that the front axle track is too wide. I want to correct this by narrowing the axle before assembly. Can anyone who has built this kit tell me how much to take out of the width? I was thinking .080" to .100"? Thanks in advance.

I was in the area last year and attended this show. Lots of nice stuff to see and a great swap meet.

Thank you everyone for all the comments. I am already thinking about my next build. -
Picked up and started on one of the AMT Tobias modified kits. Whenever I build a kit I have not done before I build a box stock version to "learn" the kit and I am glad I did on this one. Definitely not a kit for beginners!

Great execution of a great idea! -
I always seem to find a few things that need some attention after I finish a build but until I do I am calling this one done. Built straight out of the box. I must say this kit went together very well, everything seemed to fit like it was supposed to and no surprises. Thanks for looking

The Jungle Jim, Gunfighter, and Sandy Elliot cars were models that I started over ten years ago and finished this year when I took up the hobby again. Thanks for looking

I like it, I think my next truck build will be some kind of Ford -
I am working on the AMT International Harvester Transtar cabover kit as my first semi truck build. I am no expert but I always thought the Cabover design was to shorten the length of the tractor so longer trailers could be used before deregulation when total length was limited. This kit seems to have a very long wheelbase. The distance between the fuel tanks and rear tires seems very long to me. I imagine they were offered in various wheelbases for different applications but why wouldnt they just use a conventional cab on a wheelbase this long? Is the kit correct? Thanks

Decided to do the tanks in Tamiya Aluminum. Got the interior done and am working on the smokestacks now. This kit really goes together well. -

Decided to go with an aluminum silver for the tanks, painted them last night. Should have the frame done today then start the interior. -
