Chassis is built up from brass rod and a cut up steel womp chassis.... this is the first mockup. Mounts for the wing attached. Rear bumper. Finished chassis, elapsed time: 8 hours to this point. Final mockup. Time to fuss with the driver and other details, Onward and upward!

Hey Gregg... are you still in the dark???
Jairus replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Have to light up those old pineapple lanterns now... Edit: Gregg always wanted the Islands to go back to the days before the white man came ... well, that is mostlikely what it was like! Dark when the sun went down. Incidentally G, my Aunt MaryLou passed on the 26th. I only mention because you and I shared a great visit with her couple of years ago at her place in the hills there in Honolulu. J out. -
Never hooked me Harry, I prefer a "hands on" approach. For me there is nothing like masking, spraying and inking with a little pencil tossed in!

I like!

Ricky would have loved it to be sure! Not to mention, it would make a great "Hot Wheels" wild thingie too. Very cool!

What is a "static" model?
Jairus replied to Saturnine's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Static models are pretty and nice to look at but rarely turn a wheel. Pretty much mostly what you see on this forum is a static model. BUT, if you want to go to a REAL party... check out Slotblog! There you will find some of the greatest models that are also fun to drive! -
Happy birthday to the Boss???
Jairus replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Harry, I just gotta know how you figured this out and..... why do you care? -
THIS my friends! Is what a professional looks like. Great presentation, nice work and interesting subject matter. Like the illustrations too! You have my attention as well...

Merry Christmas and God Bless every one.
Jairus replied to Chas SCR's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Thanks Chas, Right back at you! Merry CHRISTmas! -
Yeah? Is that all you got! Kidding, just kidding. Very cool actually... Design is great. Mechanical working features are a home run! Paint fantastic and overall look very good. I like the fins the way they are incidentally. Great build, you should be proud!

Oven Cleaner and plastic filler??
Jairus replied to KanelKustoms's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Yes, I have. The filler in most cases will need to be replaced as the Oven Cleaner removes most filler materials. Actually, Squadron white was all that was on the body at the time. Not sure about any-other type of filler. To be safe, I let the body sit after scrubbing to make sure all chemicals had vented before coating again. Puttied those areas that needed it, wet sanded and then Tamiya primer. No problems so far. Hope this answers your question. Edit: This is the car that I stripped and re-painted. -
Harry, you MUST know that there is a Springfield located in each and every state in the Contiguous United States!

Winter is here...and it sucks
Jairus replied to VW Dave's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Winter is here too! No broken trees yet... but snow on the ground before Christmas is a rarity to be sure! -
I suspect that Bill could do very well at whatever he sets his mind to do regardless of scale or project. It is a mental mindset and personality trait. Like the project so far!

Colony Park from a 1960 brochure I picked up on eBay. Also have a nice hard top that I want to convert to a Colony Park... I will be watching this thread to see progress.

Yes really! I can google up a couple of web sites that say Elvis is alive too. Dosn't make it true.

Yeah, pretty cool! Now do a Gulf version....
-
Incidentally, there is no such thing as an Mk I. Previous versons of the GT 40 are just called "GT 40"!
-
Peter, No flaming, just information. When the groundwork and research for the Trumpeter GT40 Mk II was first done, the economy was strong here and even stronger in China. Trumpeter has done large scale models before in the $100 range including a Soviet T-34 Tank in 1/16th scale. Military modelers are very scale focused, yet it sold well! The previous model kits of a GT40 (any version) done by IMC are not correct. The most correct Mk II is by Fujimi but that is only a curbside kit. What other kits are you suggesting are out there? Yes, a later version would have been cool, including the Gulf version. BUT, it was the Mk II's that won LeMans in '66! Ford offered to buy Ferrari in 1960 and Enzo rebuffed him. Ford then set out to beat Ferrari at their own game and finally in 1966 they did it, which became a headline heard round the world! Later versions of the GT 40 are interesting but the thrill was gone as Ford slowly pulled out of Sports car racing after '66 because they had done what they'd set out to do.

VERY creative! I like it.

1929 Chevy 3 Window Coupe??
Jairus replied to Johnnycrash's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
It's a WOODY? Yeah.. nobody has ever chopped a woody before... Would (no pun intended) be fun to do one of these with a wood skin then... or ash framing and mahogany panels like the Ford Sportsman (1946 - 48)! -
Z or Zed... heck, it's ENGLISH!

Hey Dave. you have a lot of skills with model cars. Some might say that you could even be a "professional"! I leave it to you to answer all the questions from the new guys... no matter how repetitive. (I apologize in advance to anyone who might take that response as sarcastic.)
-
ME? I am nobody. Yes, sometimes sarcastic but rarely arrogant. However, both require a similar frame of reference between the writer and reader to be truly understood. (Much like British Humor) FYI, “Bunky†means friend or bunkmate. Buddy if you like. If you were really truly lost in the 50’s as your signature states… then you might know that. My apologies for using a term you are unfamiliar with, however it was not directed at you specifically but as a sweeping generalization to all forum members. I have been on this forum since it was first set up. I have answered hundreds of questions, most written in a reasonable and well mannered way like you’re question. Nothing wrong with that! The problem is that if just 6 people ask the same question in the course of a year… the last 4 posts will most likely not be answered by anyone. The reason is that the people who know the answer get tired of typing the same response over and over. You at least received an answer… That is the reason for my seemingly “sarcastic†response. Have a great week!
