Attack of the floor monster AGAIN!
tubbs replied to mnwildpunk's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
had this discussion too many times. in my room, i dont have a monster, i refer to it as the black hole. things fall and can never be found....... till years later you open up that project you haven't touched in a while and ... "WOW !! i have been looking for that" happens. ..... anyone have a clear red 73/74 duster rear taillight? been looking for THAT for a while. a side note, now that i am "older" things dont have to hit the floor anymore, i lose them right on the desk now..... -

i dont know what you did, but that worked and that really cool !! reminds me of something Troy (however you spell his last name) would build. http://www.radrides.com/index.php?option=com_macgallery&view=album&Itemid=448 i hope to get something done on mine tonight. how about everyone else? any progress....
-
Here, it's simple math.... build from hell = stress = more started projects. That is how it works for me. At least you hung in there and finished it.
-
do to our firewall here, i cant see the picture, but it sounds like a really cool project. its the first pro streeted hudson i have seen. i am in a rut on mine too, doing too many other things besides building, but the wife will be happy.
-
thats OK, then i can just take the roller up there and move the paint around for touch ups......
-
haha.... although... that would be cool. get some old tin signs and some neon lights, pinstriping instead of border....... oh... whats that dear........ ok, dear........ crystal corral blue will be just fine........ RATS!!
-
yea, pro streeters take alot of test fitting and thinking thru..... glad to see people making progress. hopefully i will get in the model room soon. the wife just informed me i will be painting 2 bathrooms, both kids rooms and the upstairs hall .....
-
Ok, here is my biggest problem, and i yell at my kids for this..... being lazy. Putting a kit back in the box because i cant find a part i want (actually i wont LOOK for the part i want!). parts dont fit.... back in the box, burned thru the paint, bad flocking, dont like this or that.... back in the box.... i have so many stalled projects because of small 15 minute fixes, it's rediculous.... and then it happens........ i start another project and it starts all over. another bad habit is the internet. get an idea on how i want to build this dart, and i see another picture of a dart and head in that direction, then i change my mind again, and again....... so what do i do ........... start yet another project.

remember, cars were ordered basically piece by piece back then, the magnum 500's could have been a deleted item. say a person wanted the upgraded interior in the GTX and cut the cost by deleting the wheel/tire combo to keep the price within thier budget. strainger things have happened back then. great build by the way. one of the better GTX's i have seen.

How big is your work table ?
tubbs replied to Fender's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I'm rather lucky, I have 2 4'x8' drafting tables and 2 steel desks. I hoarded some extra wood from work (they are 36x30 pieces) layed 6 of them down on top of the desks for more surface area. I have a 16'x16' "area" in the unfinished part of the basement. Oh yea, every main piece you see in the pictures, I got for free. And for you old elecronics guys, yes, that is an old printer case used to stifle the noise from the printer, thats my paint booth. Have to be imaginative. There is only one shelf, it just shows up in the other picture after in got moved. -
no, 440's mount high off a y type bracket. if you want, pm me with your addy and i can get you one from the thunderbolt kit, or something simular that will work.

no, i dont have slicks, but i ran something like this... http://www.summitracing.com/parts/hoo-17601/media/images on the street and prayed it didn't rain!! as long as there is some sort of treat going on, your OK. dont run a hood scoop. if i did, it would be a stock 440+6 hood for a road runner. the law in ohio would be nothing over the "line of sight"..... what? that is a judgement call to me.... i was going the other way and was building ablower motor that would have extended up about 16" past the hood line..... i was also planning a 4 link and all new suspension under the car that would have put it about 3" to 4" below stock. that along with the blower never happened. the bumpers are about 2" below stock now, so they are not bad. its the deep sump oil pan!!(see the picture below) Ohio doesn't really have a law for clearance on things under the car that i know of, just the bumpers. i dont think you have to conform to out of state laws, only if you are being real obnoxious with the car and run iinto a cop who hasn't had his coffee and donuts that morning. if you have any other questions, ask away, i will be happy to help if i can.

i also would like to send out kudos to Brodie. funny thing is we never were able to make a deal but he kept in touch, never left me hanging, always returned pm's. just a stand up guy!!

well, my 1:1 car does not have windshield wipers nor even a windshield wiper motor, no horns, fiberglass bumpers and the exhaust does not exit the side or rear of the car. these are some of the things that make a street legal car. when you go for the pro street drag car, i have a cage, but the certification is expired. little things like the welds need to be seen. they cannot be ground smooth like on some show pro streeters. some have front and rear bumper to ground clearances, how high a scoop can be. so many things to consider, but its all based on your state laws for road worthy cars.

thanks Niko. but as i said, planning a complete overhall. that 409 is sweet! what kit is that from?
-
this may not qualify, but i will try....this is a total redo for my club. yea, almost done and i am redoing it, typical. 62 pontiac catalina, scratched the back half, will be fitted with the rear out of the AMT 67 chevelle, new pontiac motor, different color for the interior and exterior. will be a totally new build. i already have most of it yanked apart. they are both du in march. we will see if i can stay focused on these. anyone have any good nasty pontiac motors or motor parts......
-
well, i am switching gears. my local model club put out its list of themes and that switched my building order. i am moving onto this started project, its a Jimmy Flintstone 64 plymouth resin body, stock frame back halved with the max rat. turquoise with same interior, single carbed hemi and single headlight grille.

69 nova and 72 chevelle drag radial cars
tubbs replied to outkast1027's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
sweet !! can we get some closeups of the cars? -
can anyone suggest a caster who replicates the holley carbs on a 68 hemi dart/cuda? thanks in advance...
-
sweet build, dont see too many of these. nice work!! not that hard Bill. or maybe using the fire fighter mustang chassis... just a thought
-
looking great !! opening doors are a big plus in my book. since modeling time is at a premium at Tubb's house, i have begun to open only the drivers door. do you have colors picted out yet for this? also like the change in wheels.
