Pro Touring Cars, Yay or Nay?
tubbs replied to Jordan White's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
this is what makes 1:1 cars and model cars so great, love this stuff. I think it is truly an individual thing. let me talk you thru a cruise night in my pro street road runner, first off, I have to sling my butt over between the cage and the steering wheel into the Jaz fiberglass seats (at 53 and 230, that's getting harder to do), carbs are always hard to start, prey I don't have climb back over the cage to undo the 8 or so deuz fasteners holding the hood down to adjust something. fire it up, let it warm up, no power steering, brakes, window, heck, not even a radio! idle down my dirt road with the windows down cause its starting to get hot. it has an aluminum firewall that conducts heat from the engine real well, turn onto the main street with the rear end wobbling around because of the big' ol tires. get into a straightaway and hit 1/4 throttle just to get a thrill and make some noise. get to the local hot spot, hope she is running cool....... out, in, do it all over for the ride home. good thing I live on a street with only a few houses cause I sure will wake everyone up. get it in the garage and shut her down for the night, sweaty, kind of tired, I look at the car, smile and think that I wouldn't give that up for no air conditioned, smooth riding, tunes playing cornering machine if you paid me!! sorry to ramble but it's just way too much fun!! I guess what I am saying is keep your pro touring, give me pro street!! -
Pro Touring Cars, Yay or Nay?
tubbs replied to Jordan White's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I agree 100%.... in a way, I own a pro street car, had it since the early 80's. still gets looks, really tired of hearing that pro street is dead, in this day and age, nothing is dead, everyone is building everything and the true car buff can appreciate them all, may not like them all, but understands the work involved and the imagination put into these cars.. I do like pro touring, will never own one. to me, they are just what was stated, all modern equipment in old style muscle wrappings. as far as factory stock, I feel the only reason to keep something factory stock is monetary value. these are ones that confuse me.... the pro street guys will not adopt these cars and as far as I know, the G-machine guys don't claim them either. I say it's closer to pro street than pro touring. ever try to corner with a 21" rear tire...... yea, can't be done. -
What are your pre-build planning methods?
tubbs replied to Jeremy Jon's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I hear you loud and clear. like I stated, my builds vary rarely end up the way they get planned. too much media out there to stick to the plans. now, I am in complete agreement with you also in the professional aspect, I am a plumbing designer for large, and small buildings and changes are a great cause for panic, especially in the 11th hour. so.... Tom, how much do you charge for model areas? -
love it!! love reading the posts too. yea, I remember those days too, love the American flag on the tank, the fuzzy dice, bit ol velocity stacks. need lights up in the wheel wells and off the rear cover......
-
I was just thinking the same thing..... nice build.
-
great job. love the colors, like the deletion of the side marker lights. just a clean build. the only thing I don't like about it is I have something like this planned and yours is going to get me to start yet another project....... beautiful.

UH-OH!! we are slipping guys. we got passed by the lowriders and the MG guys.... anyways, have a camera that will not cooperate so no picts, but got a little more done on the 62 Pontiac, started on the interior paint, body primed. looking to add some bracing to the already beefed chassis. looking to cut the drivers door open, looks to be a real challenge with the way the door line meets the front window trim. not a lot of room, but if I can do it, it will look really neat. got the motor mocked up. starting to take shape. at the rate I am moving, it should be done by Christmas of 2015!!

nice. great job. I am doing a pro street one of these right now, can I steal some ideas?

I don't think I have posted here before. I will highly recommend Brodie for any trade, on time, packaged well and the kit was exactly the way he described it, no surprises. and he is a man of his word. thanks Brodie. (I will be adding to this later)

What are your pre-build planning methods?
tubbs replied to Jeremy Jon's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
i have a binder with sheets i made up listing exterior, interior, engine chassis and mods. i have a checklist at the top stating stock, drag, custom, pro street and so on. i fill these out for every build i do. they work well. here lies the problem, and all you fellas have mentioned it...... it's reference material!! i currently have around 10,000 magazines (yea, i have a weakness. like them better than the net) and of course the internet (i collect reference pictures anytime i can from the net). i get an idea, will start looking for the REFERENCE MATERIAL and it never fails, i have 3 or 4 "ideas" in front of me and can never nail one down. or what's worse, see something totally different and go off on tangents and end up starting 3 instead of finishing 1. i now do all my sheets in pencil and a build never comes out the way its planned.... maybe i am wasting my time with the "planning" stage and should just attack a kit? -
Whats the most you would spend on a model.?
tubbs replied to slusher's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I am right there with you pappy. i am 53 and don't think i ever paid more than $25 for a kit. if it's above that mark, i don't need it. may want it really really bad, but i will not pull the trigger. -
can somebody please get me a link to "missing link"? I cant get to any of his parts listings from the page I am going to.
-
looking really good Jason. keep going man..... fight thru it....
-
boy, we are slipping down the page..... got some more done on the Pontiac. I know, pictures needed and wanted, I understand!!! patience is a virtue. getting the floor pan all sanded, looking for brace points. mocking up of the motor is coming out good. nothing so far hs made me give up on this one.... yet.
-
man Christopher, you just can't get rolling on this build. hang in there.. we all hit snags. looking forward to updates.
-
dude!! you need to use the "wanted" section..... pm sent to ya....
-
yea, I remember. surprisingly... and I think I will just watch you put yours together instead of building mine. I like building cars that I wish I had!! hehe......
-
well, not much to report, but it is a report. with many attempts I finally got the back half floor and tubs together. will get the frame started this weekend.
-
wasn't today, but just getting around to posting it here. some of the magazines date back to 1957. I don't think I posted this here..... darned old age!!

beautiful!! nice 1:1 ride. great start on the kit also. if I didn't have a 1:1 pro street road runner, that is what would be parked in my garage. had it since 91 and never even attempted a build of mine. as said before, take your time and you should have no problems.
