Don't You Just Hate When?
tubbs replied to booboo60's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
..... you start organizing your model room and it becomes more of a mess that when you started, you find things you thought you needed and traded for it, and now you can't find things cause you "organized".- 29 replies

thanks for the links. I posed a questions a while back on modernizing the "pro sportsman" chassis out in the jukebox ford and the 55 and 57 chevys. this will help!! now, who does that clutch can in resin?
-
great job, Jason. look forward to your next build. and maybe that should be some sort of ram pickup to replace that el camino tow vehicle.... hehe.... great job.
-
beautiful decals Chuck. have to get one of those colts for sure. had plans back in the early 80's to do a 1:1 pro street colt, do to some circumstances, it never got built. maybe now I can do it, at a smaller scale of course. maybe Mr. Norm's Super Charger colt is next? or the rod shop....... absolutely love the colts!! thanks you for your time and effort to produce this.

I would like to say thanks..

I am in agreement with Harry, you do have your head on straight, you know your priorities, you are polite and you build a pretty good model. keep it up, cant wait to see what you are going to bring to the table next. -
I am a mechanical designer (mostly plumbing, a little HVAC) at an engineering firm in Richfield Ohio, at it for over 30 years. major hotels, hospitals and any other facility we can get our hands on. maybe dabbling in the fine art of slum lording here soon, if not, retirement will not an option.

What's your build percentage?

haha.... my wife wont come near my room. I am usually singing or humming with no music playing, and sometimes...... I make engine sounds and tire squealing burnout noises... vaaaaaaarrrrroooooooommmmm........ c'mon, you all have done it. I also play hot wheels with my son and my sounds are better than his. -
very true..... but....... those are the people who will start the conversation by asking a question or 2, not making a statement which comes from someplace other than their mouth!! i love to teach people about cars, my car, especially the younger people. never, well try not to, banter anyone. if they are asking questions, no matter how off the wall, I will answer, if it's one of those jackbutt statements telling me what's wrong with my car.......

that's great!! I wouldn't be able to keep myself from cracking up.

that's what I usually say, only very diplomatically. you never know who is waiting outside the gates in a beat to BLAH_BLAH_BLAH_BLAH monarch. I stay nice to every stupid....er, everybody at shows. I hear you about driving it. I go to shows (mostly cruises) to see the other cars, not to show mine, it's just a cool way of getting there. the grandfather thing is funny. I can see that happening quit often. that's another big (to me at least) stupid question..... "how much is it worth?"..... probably more than you can afford.
-
hehe.... how neat... do we have enough room for all of them. most of mine are mopar based. you know your in for a long conversation when the guy starts out like this... "I used to have one of those....." then it graduates to..... "mine was a 350, not a 383" "mine was a dodge, not a Plymouth" 'mine had a 8 3/4 dana" then you have the know-it-all's" "that should have a black push button on the door handle, not a chrome one." "that's the wrong (insert whatever part here)!" "that car never came with (insert whatever part here)!" when someone tells me these things, I ask "what kind of car did you have?" and their reply ... "oh, I never owned one, but I have read about them" onward..... "is it fast?" "can you spin the tires?" "boy, I guess you get lousy gas mileage." and on a more personal level, (see picture of my car and you will see what I mean, and no offense to anyone who thinks the same, we will save all that for another thread...) "why did you go ahead and do THAT for?" I am sure I will post up some more later.

What's your build percentage?
tubbs replied to hotrod4ever's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
this seems to be rolling along nicely. I really had no idea how many kits I actually have. lots are in bags and drawers tucked away. well it ends up I have about 300 kits (didn't think I had that many) and completed 0.... boy, that's an easy one. I think the number would go way up if we did # of kits by # of projects started.... -
awesome setup! I think that is trick (wow, breaking out the 80's lingo) it's all about keeping the wife happy..... happy wife, happy life!!

I find this fascinating!! I rarely buy from stores, I usually buy from people at model club, swap meets, model shows and such. therefore, I don't think I have EVER bought just 1 kit with the intentions of building that one. I end up buying 10 or 12, and then along comes a flee market, another 5, 10 more at a show. next thing you know, the stash is at 50+ and I haven't sat down to build nothing. you also need a fudge factor..... the kits you buy strictly for kit bashing. I have at least 10 of the pro street super bee, never to be build but to be sacrificed for other kits. do these count. at least half my stash is slated to be kit bashed with other kits. -
thanks and your welcome. great build. fits the cannonball run theme to a tee.

69 Chevelle SS Pro Mod WIP (Updated 3.26.14)
tubbs replied to hOLMS's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
looking good, Jeff, lots of time involved in that body. I am more a traditional body guy, but can really appreciate the time and effort. it's going to be a wicked, wicked ride. any idea on color? obviously going carberation if you are using a scoop, would be neat blown, bright red or orange, white stripes....... just sayin. -
modernizing the revell top sportsman chassis
tubbs replied to tubbs's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
you are correct Joe, I just don't want to be totally out of whack with it either. I do have tons of reference shots and some specs I can work off of. I guess I just keep looking instead of building. I will start a thread for these in the upcoming weeks. not going to be anything like you see here so don't get too excited. thanks for everyone's help. -
green!! we deal with that everyday at work. pickin is illegal around these parts. once it goes to the curb, it's the city's property. how ridiculous is that. i am always looking for things at the curb. you can make some good hobby money if you have the time to roam the streets on garbage day. have a friend who does it every day, anywhere from a few hundred to over a grand each month between Craig's list and the scrap he gets.

i noticed that quit a few guys keep their tools in an actual tool box. this couldn't work for me cause i need EVERYTHING out on the bench and i would have so much clutter in front of it, i wouldn't be able to open the drawers. keep them coming, some great ideas out there.
