modernizing the revell top sportsman chassis
tubbs replied to tubbs's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
first, let me state, I know very little about these class rules, so..... i'd think I would be leaning towards the top sportsman class. I think pro mod is getting too crazy with the bodies (moving in the same direction that funny cars did, almost unrecognizable bodies). want to keep the body mods to a minimum if possible. some sectioning and cutting in OK. the builds I am trying to do are a willys, (I used the old summit pro stock chassis and want to update) ... and a '99 ford lightning truck with twin turbos. (not far enough along to show the picts on this one). I was never really too concerned on getting them 100% accurate, but I figure if I am going to take the time to do them, I might as well get them close. mike - I have looked at Alston, skinny kid (I like that one) and a few others and it just looks like a lot of tubing to me. fast442 - I have no idea what a SFI booklet is? (I hear you laughing!! it's all good, I just watched a lot of drag racing and never really paid attention to the classes in depth) scaleDale - it would be wonderfull if you can PM or post up the rules to which my willys and lightning will fit. -
ok, I had this in the question and answer section, but I don't think it hit the right people so I am trying it here... as modeling time gets less and less around my house and maybe I am tackling too big of a project here, but I would like to know what it would take to upgrade the pro sportsman chassis to a legal chassis of todays cars. pictures and web sites are a plus. I enjoy tackling scratch built ones, but they are way too time consuming (and most of the time not too accurate and just plain wrong.) thanks in advance for any help. my apologies if this has been covered, I looked for it with no success.

1970 Dodge Super Bee grill chrome?
tubbs replied to scalenut's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
this was a body color section between the 2 raised portions of the grille. this was on all super bees, as far as I know. here is a snip from an article about the design..... One neat finishing touch on most of the two-door Coronets was a body-color vinyl appliqué that covered the bumper’s recessed center section, cleverly making the twin loops look like freestanding units. (Sedans and wagons lacked this appliqué because preproduction surveys indicated that their buyers preferred more chrome.) here is the link to the whole article on the 68 thru 70 super bee's. http://auto.howstuffworks.com/1968-1970-dodge-coronet-r-t4.htm the 1970's are on page 5. -
way cool project. you too the "out of the box" and blew it up! great imagination. love them all!!

lots of great work areas, guys. getting lots of great ideas for mine. a little history, I am a garbage picker, every piece of furniture or wood scrap you see in my room I got out of the trash or someone gave me. desks, mail slot thingie, old printer cover (how many remember those things!) I use as my paint booth, 2 drafting desks, most of the parts bins and even the lights. my wife calls me a junkman till I tell her how much stuff actually costs. so moving onward. I needed as much desk space as possible so here are a few shots of what it looked like and then more up to date shots. I am lucky as I do have a 16x16 room to do my stuff in and then just shut the door so the wife will not have to see the, what she calls a "disaster"..... here is where I am at. I have taken some 24x36 sheets of plywood and expanded the desktop area. any tips or ideas will be helpful in storing stuff. I know one thing, you can never have enough light!!

nice build. great use of details. have a few of these kits, keep pirating stuff from them so I don't think I will build mine. -

need a little help picking a 55 belair model
tubbs replied to dwayne4385's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I am no expert on the best 55 chevy to pick, but I am pretty good when it comes to pro streeting. I like the AMT 55 chevy. I am sure there are people who can point out good and bad of it better than me. i would also pick up the Revell 67 chevelle pro street kit. I used that to back half one of my 55's. not too difficult of a thing just to cut the chassis in the right place and glue the 2 together. I did a little more fiddling with it to get it as low as possible, you don't have to take it that far. in fact, that whole chassis (67 chevelle) may fit under that 55 with minimal effort. there will be plenty of help coming for you in future posts, I am sure. I will be watching, I am kind of curious on what everyone has to say on the situation. -
Edgar, the front shot is from a 74 and up colt. the rear is 72/73 vintage. but that's ok, both of then are cool!! love colts.

this went in a different direction than I thought. seems more guys work in silence than to music. I actually have a turntable and 400+ albums I used to play. no computer, no tv, just an old boombox cd player and my turntable in the room. in the summer time, there is nothing like building to an Indians game (I will be listening and hopefully building tonight), but mostly build to silence now., I do all of my building after everyone's fast asleep.

how true!! isn't it amazing no mater how many timed I look at an issue, I never get tired on looking at it. (and my SSDI's also

haha!! my wife calls them a fire hazard!! on the other hand, she says at least I read them, not like the stack of models that go unbuilt.

i am with the rest of you and I will spare you all the grief of reading my winded reasons. it's great to hear that the parents back him on this.

hey guys, in this day and age of having information right at your fingertips, and since we ARE on a magazine based forum, I was wondering if there are any of you out there that if you take a magazine into the bathroom with you instead of your phone, what would it be? what is your favorite "go to" reading material? obviously we will all say Model Car Magazine, of course!! so we are going to leave that one and any other model mag out of this. I am a magazine hoarder. I have the first magazine I ever bought and it snowballed from there to close to, if not over 10,000 magazines. in gathering up collections, I have seen magazines I have never heard of. they are cool, but my main ones are Super Stock and Drag Illustrated (SSDI for short), Hemmings muscle machines, and Mopar Collectors guide. so lets hear from you, just how many magazine guys are out there, let's see if someone can come up with something I or someone else has never heard of before.

How Do You Store Your Tools?...?...?...?
tubbs replied to MAN-CAVE's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
pampered chef!?!? does your wife know about that or is she still wondering where the heck it went? I try to keep all my tools in a carousel I bought at a garage sale years ago. I also have a peg board in front of me but things never seem to find their way back on the board. also, I have 8 or so x-acto knives cause I keep misplacing them. -
nothing negative to be said.... great build!!

nice job on the build. and even better job on getting it apart. sometimes you just have to wonder why people get so "glue-happy"
