Carroll Shelby tribute community build.
wgflatliner replied to wgflatliner's topic in Community Builds
Ok so I opted to pick up another Shelby based car for this. Subject: 2006 Mustang GT-H Going to build it box stock, as I am trying to hone in my basic building skills such as seam lines, ejector pin moldings and a clean paint job. For the motor, I am using the Metalizers line of aluminum plate and only making sure to polish some parts of it like the valve covers and the oil pan. I don't have pics yet but will as soon as I get home. -
If you expect to use the tom's hood, good luck! It will need to be heavily modified to get it to fit. I might have to use the regular supra hood and modify it for the massive turbo, or simply not use the hood. Also, the front suspension assembly will need modification to get the engine assembly to fit. Btw, got the body in paint yesterday. Still needs another coat or two. Then it'll be ready for clear coat. Tonight I will need to get the frame and such in paint as well.

So what we have here is a Tamiya Supra. There are two kits here. One is the tom's supra which has the wide body, but no engine. Then there is the stock supra that has the engine but no wide body. I wanted a wide body with engine, so I cut the hood off and here is where it sits. I also like the look of the targa top, so I cut that out of the roof. I had to cut the windshield cowling out of the regular supra to give the car a complete feeling engine bay. For the rolling stock, I found some Aoshima wheels. Slicks on the back. The engine is going to feature a large turbo from Shucky and scratch built parts like exhaust and intake manifolds. The car will be painted a blue purple color from tamiya.

2012 POST APOCALYPSE/ZOMBIE HUNTER COMMUNITY BUILD
wgflatliner replied to Dr. Cranky's topic in Community Builds
I started on The Collector. Man this model is a bit tough. I got the suspension set up and front axle installed. I need to work on the rear suspension and finish the rest of the chassis. Then comes the scratch building on the upper hull, and the real fun begins! -

Mine is about 75% complete. I got the chassis put together with the interior. The body is curing with the clear coat. I opted to do a single wide white stripe and will be doing the short windshield and removable tonneau cover over the passenger seat. I need to finish the wheels with aluminum next and get them installed and maybe accent with a gunmetal or exhaust colored inserts. So I'm in the final stages and will get pics when it's done. -

Now that is awesome! I'm glad he loves it. Do you think he will pick up the hobby later on? -
Looks good! The smoking tires would be scary with nobody behind the wheel to calm the beast.

Thanks Jesse! The decals aren't cooperating so it looks like a new paint job is coming without the stripes! -

i am very glad to see that there are folks interested in building something in honor of Carroll Shelby. As part of my contribution, here is where i stand with the shelby cobra 427 S/C. I am going to build it box stock. engine is assembled and painted with the exception of the tip of the transmission and such. i also painted the car Arctic Blue Metallic over Model Master Metalizers stainless steel. before: after: -

That's fine. -
Ladies and gents: With the passing of an automotive legend, I am proposing a community build to commemorate the late Carroll Shelby. I would like to initiate a community build in which anybody can participate and enter with an automotive subject that Shelby has either owned or been involved with. There will not be a time limit to this, as an automotive legend of such stature deserves to have an ongoing tribute with a deadline only set by those who wish to participate in it. I am going to start with the subject of the original style Shelby Cobras. The only rule I have this time around is that the kit must be new, if not, barely started. Carroll Shelby will surely be missed in the automotive world, and with great respect, this one's for him! Btw I might see about having a display at his museum in Vegas. Not sure what all is entailed.

2012 POST APOCALYPSE/ZOMBIE HUNTER COMMUNITY BUILD
wgflatliner replied to Dr. Cranky's topic in Community Builds
Don't get me wrong, TJ. I have a lot of respect for the military and the folks in it. Also the innovation is great. When I speak to the cookie cutter builds, I speak about the people who simply build the same thing over and over, and subpar at best. But I applaud their efforts. The least they could do is not cuss me out because I'm building something the way I want. -
2012 POST APOCALYPSE/ZOMBIE HUNTER COMMUNITY BUILD
wgflatliner replied to Dr. Cranky's topic in Community Builds
I started the buffalo kit, appropriately named The Collector. The military guys were all anxious and happy to see me working on armor when I took the box out of the bag. Then I showed them my plans and they literally cussed me out saying its blasphemous and unethical to the military men and women who served and my goal was terrorist minded and blah blah... I smiled and looked at them and politely said "...which is why I'm doing it. Perhaps a candy paint and cragars would justify my decision to build my model the way I intend.". (for the record, this is not what I intend). They turned red with anger. The guy said I would never be able to compete at contests, in which my response was "see you at the tables." Some people just don't know how to be creative. And I get the feeling they won't know how to respond when it beats their cookie cutter builds. -
scallops look good. glad to see progress.

I got my buffalo kit finally. Going to take it to work tomorrow to mess with it. Gonna call it "The Collector" -
more pics over all. the paint may look a little bumpy but after clear it'll be smooth as glass.

alright, here's an update. the trunk mural is going to be the evil leprechaun. this is only a progress photo. i need to touch up on the hat and get it perfected. once i get the hat done, i'll slowly work in the building up of the hands and shoulder areas. once it's final then i'll start foiling and clear coat. i also did another coat for the bottom of the hood to tie it all together.
-
Thanks guys! Gonna start attempting the leprechaun tonight.

and here's an update and an overall shot thus far

Real or Model #190 FINISHED!
wgflatliner replied to Harry P.'s topic in Real or Model? / Auto ID Quiz
Model here. -
Took pic with lame iPad camera. Better pics coming tonight. Mocked up Basically I did a solid minty green cloud effect on the trunk and hood as you can see. I then came up with the idea of what kind of Celtic knot I wanted.. So I got the circle in and located absolute center, then built off of that. Some of the tape sticks up which makes it easier to remove the tape after paint. There is a little overlap on the outer edges of the outer circle, but I plan on fading it in so it appears the knot is under the top layer of paint. This took me roughly 6 hours to tape the design in without tweezers... And man I got some fat fingers! Tonight I will wrap up the hood in terms of paint and I can then start the leprechaun.

Good work, sir! I need to learn how to plumb hydros

Tinkering at work with a mock up of the grille in place.

trunk and hood was added after the paint laid down and faded in to prepare for the murals. the fade isn't perfect, but that's the goal i have in mind anyways. you'll see as i progress later on with the mural. over-all look thus far. i have also faded the bottom of the body in the chezoom teal as well, to clean up the bottom. the dark fades and lighter areas is just the way the light is reflecting off the paint.
