  1. Sick that on! What's this? Oh well, looks good enough! Wiser, maybe. Smarter? Debatable.
  2. (insert song lyric about time going by too fast here) Man, is that 66 Nova kit that old? I tossed all my old magazines in a clutter buster some years ago - mistake. I remember the monochromatic schemes - they looked so cool then. I saw a real car done that "90s" style at a show last year and thought "okay, now that's ugly". Wasn't Pat Covert about the only one doing weathered builds back then? He had a whole theme of trucks. There were probably others but, as you said, nobody knew because the Internet was useless to commoners back then. Thanks for the memories. Oh, and if you don't feel old enough reading and remembering this, the babies born when that 1990 magazine came out are legal drinking age this year!
  3. Ahhh...A finished model. Revell made a fantastic kit with their 1962 Impala and it builds into a fantastic model. Here is mine: Out of the Box "plus" Body is Duplicolor Light Champagne Metallic with Krylon Crystal Clear. Really no issues with the construction of this kit - other than my own blunders. I had to redo the rear bumper/tailight area a couple times. My original intent was to just dull coat the area above the bumper. I messed that up twice and had to strip the whole thing to bare plastic. I then painted the upper portion with Alclad Aluminum, masked off for the bumper, and sprayed that with Alclad Chrome, and some BMF for the trim. Thanks for looking!
  4. Finished the Impala this evening and posting "under glass". "Under where?"
  5. I use the Perfect Match Duplicolor - it is an acrylic lacquer made for automotive use. I clear it as the metallic paints don't have a shine. When applying, I have found you need thin, mist layers. With Tamiya, I usually do a few mist coats followed by a heavier wet coat. When I tried that with Duplicolor, the flakes in the metallic paint bunched up along edges. My most recent project is painted with Duplicolor and Krylon crystal clear - should be close to "under glass" tonight or tomorrow.
  6. That's cool. Box and everything look like they're in really good condition. Funny how eBay works - one day you could have two or three people interested in this kit and it sells for 20, 30, or who knows - then, one day, only one person is interested and, bingo! $9.95! Nice.
  7. Depends... Tamiya makes a great product - sprays on smooth and glossy. I have found it to be somewhat fragile for me (if your not clumsy, it may not make a difference). Clearcoating helps protect the painted finish but seems I always tap a corner or something while sanding and chip the paint. Tamiya semi gloss black is the best semi gloss I have found. The Krylon semi flat and semi gloss do not go on as evenly as the Tamiya. I have just started using the duplicolor paints and have to say they are great. The paint comes out nice and even and they have nice nozzles. I have found they are more durable than the Tamiya paints - my usual dropping and bumping does not result in the same chipping. They are cheaper by volume as you get almost 3 times more paint for the price. The duplicolor clear also works nicely and I have been experimenting with it on spoons - it polishes out great. Flat black - Krylon is great. You can get a BIG can for the price of a small hobby can. It goes on easy, dries quickly, and covers very evenly. I use and like both the plastikote and duplicolor primer. Sandable is great for the first couple coats but sometimes goes on too heavy - that's its purpose. You can go to Plastikote's webiste and search for retailers in your area as it is more limited than duplicolor. I also have used the Testors lacquers and they work great - although the ones I have used seem to have a lot more pressure than the other brands (could be my imagination) and load the paint on - so be careful I guess. The only paints I stay away from are Testors enamels - I really don't like them. They are very slow to dry and the finish is usually way below that of any of the lacquer choices.
  8. Hey Michael - most of the time people comment on cars they are familair with - Cords, while cool, aren't nearly as popular a subject as, say Mopars. Build a 60s Chrysler product and I assure you, there will be comments.
  9. I like the whole build! The tire lettering caught my eye too - don't know what it is but I like the way it looks.
  10. Randy - thanks for the posts on the firewall construction. I have been staring at the whole post again. I like to see lots of common, household items being used to produce such great results. It's inspirational. I really like the look of the copper on the interior floor pan. Thanks a million for photographing and posting as you go! Oh, great photo quality too.
  11. You'd better jump on THIS - and no free shipping? I could be wrong, but the last time I bought this kit, last year I think, I paid somewhere in the vicintiy of, oh, $10. Looking at the seller's other listings leads me think "overpriced". There are two available at this price, though!
  12. I'd like to see where this goes. Interesting idea. I like those old broncos and they are a black hole in the styrene world. My grandpa had a brown one with white spoke wheels and white rear fender flare - that's what I remember about it.
  13. If you are going for a factory stock look on the truck, the seat is too far to the middle of the cab. No, seriously, this build is cracking me up. I can just see some hooded skeleton driving around town and people saying "oh, dear, look at that!". I like the weapons holder on the door. The single seat makes sense - who the hell would want to ride round with THAT guy? Great!
  14. EPA figures are actually always too high. Actual mileage, as stated in my post regarding my Subaru, is less, sometimes considerably. I used to have an old ford ranger - picked it up at an auction, drove it for years with nothing but a $120 timing belt replaced. Four cylinder automatic - two speeds, slow and slower.
  15. This is a very sad situation and I'm sorry for the loss. Some advice for anybody, anytime you or a loved one is required to stay in the hospital: have a patient advocate. Your spouse, best friend, anyone who can ask questions and get answers. We learned first hand when my 93 year old grandfather almost died last year from a secondary infection following bowel surgery. Again, sorry for the loss.
  16. I drive a 2000 Subaru legacy. Someone told me they got 30 mpg in theirs. So, for the next 6 months, I documented and tracked my mileage. I drove a lot of open highway miles (Eastern Washington state) and the result? At best, 24 mpg. Factory sticker said 28. I think if people keep a close look, those numbers go down pretty quick.
  17. I don't really like red cars or mustangs or scales other than 1/25 or... No, just kidding. I like this build a lot. The engine is stand out and love that interior. Have looked it over quite a bit - lots to look at here. Great job on this and thanks for posting!
  18. Spent a couple hours foiling all the trim. Too bad you can barely see it with the body color! Some answers... Embossing powder - it is meant to be heated if you're scrapbooking. It melts together for a smooth, raised detail. Don't do this on the model. Applying is simple - same as flocking. I brush diluted white glue and dump the powder on, let it dry, and shake the loose parts onto a piece of paper to put back in the bottle. To my eye, it looks more like short nap automotive carpet. Details on the interior - color is Tamiya Semi-Gloss Black (seats), Krylon semi-gloss black (door panels), and the dash is body color (Duplicolor Light Champagne Metallic - it's actually an, um, Chrysler color). Dash details are mostly the kits supplied decals. And, yes, I am planning on the dog dish caps. The kits steel wheels are all front wheels for some reason.
  19. Really nice looking paint job. I am always apprehensive to throw paint on the body early in a project - I am sure it would get trashed with my obsessive pre-fitting. I have one of these in the to do pile, so I'll be watching.
  20. Trademark and copyright are not the same thing. Trademark issues, such as using Good Year on tires, relate to a "distinctive sign or indicator", not content. Copyright gives "exclusive rights to the creator of the original work". So the Ford emblem would be a trademark issue, copying an original piece would be a copyright issue. Just because you purchase something does not give you the right to reproduce it beyond personal use. BigJim - I didn't think this was a copy of the Revell piece or a copyright infringement as I don't know the source of the grill - just going with the conversation that developed from the post. Sorry if it's off track now.
  21. It doesn't have to do with taking away your rights. It has to do with protecting the rights of those who created the original product. What makes you think you could download and then sell a song you didn't write? Does that make sense? That's essentially what is happening of you copy an item and sell it, regardless of the medium. Can you do it? Sure. Should you? Ethically, no. Legally, no. Put yourself in the shoes of the original maker, say, a resin caster. You spend hours creating an item and sell it. Then you see a copy of your item on eBay. How would you deal with that?
  22. Let's not even get started on craigslist! Look, I have some garbage in my backyard - $20, you haul! Firm!
  23. Scary thing is, people are buying from him. Atleast there is feedback indicating so. His shipping charges are out of line too. I have seen clowns list items for a high buy it now price to get one they have in auction seem more valuable - this seller seems to just be charging a lot for no reason. I don't think I'll buy anything from him.
  24. If it's a direct copy, that would be protected by copyright. I'm pretty sure models have a copyright warning on the box and instruction sheet. If it's modified, it would possibly depend on what extent it is changed from the original.
  25. Great build. Awesome work and fun to watch! Thanks for posting.
