  1. Stellar model Dmitry!
  2. Awesome collection Steve. The 62 Galaxie is my favorite. That model is gorgeous.
  3. Great models Peter. I love the Mercedes.
  4. Thanks! Yes, rear tires are from the Rat Roaster with Fireball Modelworks decals. Front tires are from AMT - don't know which or where...the whitewall is vinyl decal. The decal sheet is custom - I just find a pattern image I like, print out on decal paper and, for this kit, use the kit decals to cut them to size.
  5. Thanks Carl - rear tires are from the Revell Rat Roaster with Fireball Modelworks decals - fronts are from the parts bin with vinyl whitewalls. Thanks Bruce - I think the wires are Detail Master - they were in my wire stash and loose, but pretty sure they are the race car diameter wires. Thanks for for the comments! I learned a bit about the kit too and plan to do another!
  6. Here is Revell's devious please-take-everything-else-off-your-bench-and-build-me 1929 Ford Model A Roadster. Mostly box stock - different wheels and tires and velocity stacks added... Great kit
  7. The mods on that charger are so well done people think there are no mods. Success.
  8. Tokyo Hobby - $21.90 plus $10.80 for shipping. Same shipping cost as domestic USA...
  9. What a superbly boring car! Great work - nice, clean construction.
  10. Sounds like a cool alternative. The lack of gas makes fuel planning more important. http://bringatrailer.com/2015/12/15/orange-juiced-ex-baja-1000-1964-volkswagen-karmann-ghia/
  11. Cool suggestions. I will definitely take a look at these. I didn't even know about the Camels in Autralia until my daughter and I watched "Tracks" - about Robyn Davidson walking 1700 miles across Australia using camels - and I've even visited down under!
  12. Very cool. Great looking little car. I'm glad to see a female driver - I know it reinforces the illusion of the Miata as a "girl's" car, but a female DRIVER is cool - a step up from half dressed woman washing a car... I drive a 99, so I am a little biased on Miatas...
  13. I thought there was another member living in Thailand around here... None the less, welcome - and now you have all of us with you...kind of in Thailand, in a way, sort of...
  14. Wow. I don't venture into the trucks section too much, so haven't seen this. Great work so far - especially on scribing work.
  15. Me thinks that 99.9% of us would put Revell in rapid bankruptcy with our pet projects and ideas of what would sell...with absolutely no market insight beyond our own bench. A company needs to grow - not continue to cater to the same crowd. How many kits can a baby boomer continue to jam into his/her stash? Different generations need to spend money with these companies too - or the business model will change to very expensive models with lower sales volume - then we can enjoy all the "too much" whimpering...
  16. Great looking model. I really like those odd Tamiya colors.
  17. I just received my order from Joseph at Fireball. I can't say enough about the quality and service he provides. He also provides detailed instructions on prep and use. Excellent, top tier business.
  18. I think the "appearance of legality" is the key. I wouldn't ever consider putting the actual rules and code into the CBP...just throwing out food for thought.
  19. Good to know about the tires. I am out of my element doing off road or trucks, I haven't built one since the mid 90s. Looking forward to what you cook up for this one Pat.
  20. They are legal in the US for highway use...not sure why they wouldn't be in AU. Is there a 1/24-25 scale source? I think most rules would have to do with tire exposure? Bumper height? Some are actual laws in the US but are rarely if ever enforced... Laws like this: Fenders Oregon requires mud flaps or fenders on all vehicles. Fenders and/or mud guards must extend to the full outside width of the tire tread and must extend to at least 27 inches above the roadway.
  21. Good point - but anybody can start and end one when they wish... I don't build at all from about April-November - no time and too much else going on.
  22. No matter what, it's all for fun. It's hard to say exactly what the route would encounter. The end of year voting includes everybody on the forum, many who never even read the rules for voting! So don't expect they all know what the concept of the CBP is to begin with. I think it's fun to make it as complicated or simple as you desire - and build a little story about why you are doing what you are doing in your WIP - that explains why you chose 4x4 vs 2x4 or big off road tires vs...you get the picture. I DO think that there should be some limitations - otherwise it's just an anything goes type of build and loses some of the point. The rules should be laid out when the official thread starts. I am all for road worthiness and legality. Of you get stopped by the police and your car is not legal, the race is over! So why bother? Most races or racing venues have tech inspections and even an unsanctioned, u-hum, illegal, race, is bound by participants common sense.
  23. I've never had very good success on the real rubber tires. The decals will not adhere well to the rubber's surface leaving white edges. Most clear coats are also not compatible with rubber and either never dry or flake off. If, however, the tires are vinyl... If the surface is smooth, you can add them directly to the vinyl tire then overcoat with your desired level of sheen. I prefer Testors Flat Lacquer - yes, it works fine on vinyl tires. A few coats and the silvering (if any) and edge almost disappear. If the surface is dull, you can apply a coat or two of future, then decal and overcoat. I add decals to a lot of kit tires and this is how... Just be careful handling the tires - if you are using the extremely annoying new Revell and Moebius fad of wheels, you have to install the wheels first or the decals or paint will crack when you bend the vinyl to fit those new fad annoying wheels - the ones with the ribs or ridge on them like diecast wheels, did I mention they are annoying...
