I was admiring the latest builds from "Fearless Leader" ( ) and thought I'd share my one and only kit from S27. It's the 2000 Dodge Viper GTS-R LeMans car. This was a sweet kit, the resin body is amazing and those aluminum wheels are a work of art unto themselves. A nice kit that went together pretty easily. I just had to watch the alignment on those white stripe decals, especially around the rear panel area. I also added CF decals on the front air dam and rear diffuser and supports for the front dam as well.

You got mail! -
I agree with Mike..........WELCOME TO THE BOARD! It's always nice to hear of builders returning to the hobby, especially you guys that have served our country. I'd love to see some of your work, too.

Paint Strippers - What to Use?
CarModDave replied to pbj59's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I've used "Westley's Blech Wite" tire cleaner with good success over the years. I've even removed HOK after a few days in the "bath"! And although I have yet to try it, I've heard lots of folks using the new Dawn Power Dissolver with great results. But make sure to follow the safetly precautions described. Gloves. eye protection, etc. are a must. -
Thanks again, guys. It's nice to get "instant" feedback! Gregg K. ........While I appreciate the compliment, I can't take credit for the detail on the back of the rear seat. It's actually molded that way in the wagon kit. I just added a bit of flocking to the center portion. Mike ........ Thanks. I thought opening up the center from the Revell 69 Z/28 grille and using it would add a bit more "Z" to the front.

Latest Model Cars mag.
CarModDave replied to ScrappyJ's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Very cool, Dirk. That means if you got yours in Orlando today, HOPEFULLY I will get mine tomorrow. I sure hope so because the tile guys are coming tomorrow to start laying floor tile. I spent the last few days ripping up the 10 year old carpeting and all the tack strips. Yeah....THAT'S lots of fun! I'll only have access to half the house for the next few days. Fortunately it's the half with the model room and kitchen (and bathroom, too! )! Anyway, it would sure give me some time to peruse the contest pages...... Looking forward to it's arrival. -
Well, finally got around to the interior on the "ZWagon" so here's where it's at so far: Interior is done, just needs a bit of touching up. I went with the white interior and added Scalemotorsports houndstooth decals, charcoal flocking and some BMF on the door panels. Also, as I do with most of my street cars, added a PE keyring with keys in the ignition! This one has a "bowtie" emblem on the ring! I also changed the shifter and brushed on the "rosewood" Z/28 trim onto the steering wheel and dash. Now I've got to try and finagle the 302 SBC motor and headers into the wagon chassis......

Dirk, Good to hear from you again, buddy! It's been a LONG time. I hope you are feeling better. Hopefully we can hook up again soon!

Welcome aboard, Mike. Oh...and thanks for the PM. 8) Looking forward to seeing your latest projects. -
Nice job so far, Dave! After all of the extreme builds, ain't it nice to just do a curby for a change? 8) Is it done yet?........

Somethin from "down under".
CarModDave replied to CarModDave's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Tanks, Artist-Dude! Actually, no........this one ain't that one. I've had about 6 or 8 Jaymar bodies for awhile. Stuff that I got in a trade with Jeff years ago. This was part of that stash. I still have a couple more Monaros, an EH Holden wagon, Phase III Falcon GT, etc. It's just that they require SO much work! But what am I saying - you're familiar with what these things look like to begin with! -
This is a 1968 Holden Belmont HK panel van, another cool Australian ride. The body is a fiberglass resin piece from Jaymar Model Parts (which is no longer in business). It rides on a slightly modified AMT 66 Nova chassis and Pegasus "Hela" wheels. HOK Limetime pearl paint. Something a bit different for that Sunday cruise...........

Very cool project, Bob. It all works so well together - old and new. Looks like something Subaru should consider rolling off the assembly line today! I had a friend "back inna day" that had a Brat that he used to beat the "bejeebus" out of.......yet it was just like the Energizer bunny. I wonder what ever happened to that car...? Anyway, nice job, as usual. I love the creativity in salvaging the Fujimi body parts and mating them with the original Brat. Good luck at NNL East.

Hey Wayne, thanks for the kind words.....AND for sharing that pic. Looks like your fellow club member has done a very nice job on that wagon. I also thought about a black interior but have decided on white to compliment the stripes.

My 1961 Buick Surfer car **IN PAINT NOW**
CarModDave replied to Darin Bastedo's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Those flames will look SWEET, Darin! And I like the rust/primer idea, a REAL surfer's car that's seen more than it's fair share of sea water and salt-air. Can't wait to see the end result. And Gregg........YEE-OUCH!! You still have 10 toes and two feet, right? Man...... I just may have to add that board hanging out the rear window. Just for you, Mr. Dude! Is it along the lines of these: http://www.gerrylopezsurfboards.com/classic.htm -
Thanks for all of the kind words, guys! To answer Doug's question: No, the cowl hood isn't a kit piece. I used the entire hood from the MPC 69 SS convertible kit and grafted it to the outer edges of the Revell wagon hood as shown:

Hey Darin! Here's my version of the same kit, also a rescue build! Colors are Boyds Pacific Blue and Dusty Rose Pearl. Maybe some inspiration....?? -
Newbie Alert
CarModDave replied to David Thibodeau's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Well, well, well..............look who it is. Hey Dave! It's nice to have another member of the Florida contingent on board! Got any super detailed builds on the bench? -
THAT is one wicked 'Cuda, Darin! I love the exhaust treatment and how you made the channel for the exhaust. Nice. You'll be amazed with the Cobra Colors "Fire Pearl" line of paint. I have used the Scarlet Pearl color on one of the Retro Hobby trikes and the black base really makes a difference in the pearl effect. Will it be one color or are there plans for the black hood as well? Keep us posted........

Thanks Jairus! I just missed the auction where you were offering up the original art on eModelCars.com. The wheels ARE great. They come with different rear offsets so I could have made the rears as deep as those on the pro street tires. The set actually came with tires. I am thinking of a metallic/magnesium center.....??
